If I had to choose the worst aspect of Purdue University it would have to be the dorms. College dorms are never the best but the dorms at Purdue are bad. I hate community bathrooms which most of the dorms use. The rooms are always around 85-90 degrees. Even in the winter that is too warm, I have to open the window just to keep the room at a pleasant temperature. Everything was built between the 1950's-1970's and a fresh coat of paint does not cover up everything.
The worst thing about this school is that they push you so hard that a lot of kids crack. It is just so hard to get to where you want to go that sometimes that it feels like it isn't worth it to even be there.
The worst thing about my school is the distance from campus (but, hey, losing the freshman 15 is easier) and the occasional feeeling that you are lonely though surrounded by people. This is easily overcome by getting involved in the numerous activites available. Because I do not own a car, sometimes I feel isolated on campus and do not always have a convienent way to get to the store. I tend to rely on friends to "get out" for a while. While Purdue is pretty big, it feels like a small town in just days.
-bad rehearsal space for the band program
There are too many people here who are not prepared to take the hard classes and therefore to not like the university. They complain and get things changed which makes it harder for students who came prepared.
I think that the weather is the worst thing about my school. I am not a fan of cold weather or rain and it always seem to be cold and rainy.
I think the worst thing is that if you do not participate in the drinking scene (like me) there are not many alternatives. I ususally find something to do but it usually consitst of watching movies in my room or playing putt-putt golf that is kinda far away.
the fact that Purdue has no music school nothing really around the town except for cornfields
The worst thing about my school is ther focus on Engineering. A lot of studets who don't want to go into Engineering think that Pudue is out of the question bease it's only for Engineering students. Purdue needs to focus on other areas of study also.
There are a couple of dorms that need to be renovated but instead the university believes that spending money to build new buildings takes priority,
There are some buildings that are just too far of a walk depending on where you live. Also, the greek life seems to get alot more respect than the G.D.I. people which I don't find fair because I would love to be in the greek life but I don't have the money for it. I am also an out of state student so I pay out of state fees. I am very much in debt to this school with the tuition and I am scared it'll take me too long to pay back.
That the professors rely on TA's who cant speak english very well too much, as well as bussing schedule , and parking spaces for students.
The worst thing about Purdue would have to be that it is in the middle of Indiana and not in a very big city. Outside of campus, there isn't a whole lot of activities close by for students to do for fun. Also the fact that Purdue is in Indiana contributes o the very cold winters in which we students have to battrle as we walk to all of our classes each day.
The availability of public transportation during the winter months.
too country
Registration time for classes is always a disaster. I think they need to fix the system and make it easier for students to register for the classes they need.
The general education "weed out" classes. The teachers seem to purposely try and fail students and a lot seem to be only concerned with his/her research instead of teaching.
The worst thing about this school is that there are select classes that are extremely hard (harder than at other colleges). It is also hard to get help in those classes. Also a lot of the time the professors don't speak English very well, which makes it hard to understand them and hinders the learning experience.
It's very conservative.
The worst thing about my school is the amount of financial aid they offer. It is a great school, but if no one has the money to attend then the quality of education means nothing. Personally, I struggle EVERY semester to be able to attend Purdue. It doesn't look like I'll be winning that battle this semester as I do not have ANY money to attend.
cold in winter
Most TAs don't speak english
This is hard since I really don't see any major negatives of Purdue. Possibly off-campus housing - it tends to be expensive and very competitive to get a good place. The only other thing would be location. Purdue is in a small, somewhat rural city so you need to drive to a larger city for more shopping or cultural events. However, it is in close proximity to both Indianapolis and Chicago.
Sometimes it's impossible to get the right answers from faculty. I often get the run-around about financial aid, billing, and sometimes even schoolwork.
I think the worst thing about this school are the foregin Teacher Assistants. I find it very difficult to understand them, therefore making it hard for me to learn in that class. It requires a lot of extra work, which is frustrating when that class is not the focus point of my semester, such as my major based classes.
There is not enough parking on Purdue's campus. It is very difficult to find spots, especially when family and friends visit.
The overpriced things and the town where there is nothing to do
When it snows, it is hard to get to class, especially off-campus
There is a large Greek system at Purdue which relates a lot to alcoholic parties. However, there is so much more to do on campus than what people imagine.
academic advising
The social life consists of too much drinking , not enough variety of things to do on the weekends, too much work
There was far too much emphasis on sports. If you were an athlete you could sail through classes. if you weren't, you weren't anybody.
No complaints. Would do every moment all over again, if possible.
There is not much in the way of entertainment around campus, so much socialization comes in the bars.
some of the dorms are kind of old so if you are a freshman you might get stuck in one without A/C.
That sometimes in big lectures it is hard to get closer to your teacher. But if you are shy and not outgoing it could be a hard first year for you
I can honestly say that the worse thing about purdue university is that the tuition is continually increasing each year, but from what I understand, that is happening all over the country at other universities.
The weather :( It gets super hot, crazy cold, and it rains and snows. But, its Indiana weather-- what else can you expect?
It should be more green and attractive.
I think the worst thing about Purdue would be lack of diversity on campus. There is not a high representation of ethnic groups on campus, nor is there a high demand for respect of these groups
The worst thing about Purdue is the long cold winters and it's really smelly.
Geographically isolated...The school is too focused on its Engineering and Management departments.
Sometimes you practically have to run to class if you have one class at one end of campus and the next that starts in 10 minutes on the opposite side.
I think the worst thing about my school is that the campus is not smoke-free. I think it would be a more enjoyable place if smoking was banned.
Groups of professors that look down on certain students because of apperance or attitude.
when the river makes the campus smell. some buildings need to be remodeled some equipment needs to be replaced
wd
The worst thing is probably the class sizes. The classes I've come across so far are mostly intro lectures so there are a lot of people in them.
Location. Academically, the school is great, but West Lafayette isn't the most fun place in the world, you just have to try to make it so.
The worst thing about Purdue is that lack of participation of teachers.
