Quinnipiac University Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Marissa

Small enough school so you recognize people but large enough that not everyone knows your business. Majority of girls on campus

Zachary

My experiences with those of other beliefs and religion have all been equal and I have never had any issues among my fellow classmates.

Ashley

Preppy

Matthew

I mentioned that above to.

Bobby

racial, two hate crimes/slander written on two students of colors door. groups are open for participation. students wear a mixture of things, lots of juicy, ed hardy, forever 21, short dresses for going out and tiffany old school jewelry, occassional prep and boheme, freak and jock, and trendy. four tables of students common in the caf: lacrosse players, guido's, atheletes girlfriends, foreigners. all different groups interact. students mostly wear whatever's comfortable unless there's a specific uniform (i.e. frat/sorority days, business majors have to dress up sometimes, career days, nursing program) financial backgrounds range from the working class, scholarship person, fullride scholarship for brains or athletics, extremely rich. politically active campus.

Nicholas

I've had nothing but good experiences with racial, religious, LGBT, socio-economic, and/or other groups on campus. The type of student who would feel out of place at QU would be the same type of student who would feel out of place anywhere else....one who is very shy and reserved and doesn't open up easily, as this campus is quite small and very close-knit and most people know eachother. Most students wear jeans and a t-shirt to class. Yes, different types of students interact. The four tables consist of one table of athletes, another table of your typical roomates, another table of fraternity/sorority students, and another table of the gym rats. Most QU students are from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The financial backgrounds prevailant at QU are that most people come from wealthy families. Yes, students seem to be quite aware/active. Yes, students, like everyone, talk about how much they will earn one day.

Robin

mostly white, and by mostly i mean like 99{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. but i don't think people are racist. i haven't met anyone i have though is racist or seemed racist.

TJ

The typical student attire: Ugg boots and North Face Jackets. You can easily point out the freshman at the beginning of the year because they are the one's spending hours getting ready before class. Students are not total bums (unless its pouring or there is a snowstorm), they enjoy dressing comfortable yet trendy. Most Quinnipiac students are from NJ, NY, Mass, CT, and the other state, "Long Island." Enjoy the Yankee, Red Sox rivalry. The unfortunate side of Quinnipiac is that students are not always politically aware or active in extracurricular activities; many tend spend time in areas relating to their major, but most are too busy studying or working to involve themselves in any other activities.

Danielle

For the most part, at least of what I've observed at school, people of different races typically hang out in separate groups. Unless the group is a group of athletes, then you'll find interaction between different groups. Most people are from middle-class homes and typically live in Westchester, Long Island, Massachusets, New Jersey, or Connecticut.

Jamie

Where can or should I start about the student body. The New Yorkers.. typical juice heads, most with blow outs and care about drinking and doing cocaine. The girls; all beautiful. The diversity is about 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} white and 5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} minority. Students wear anything from sweat pants to armani exchange to classes. The school is divided by states, CT, MA, NY, RI, and NJ are the primary attendees.

Adam

Diversity is something that we only read about in pamphlets and watch on television. Most students are of higher socio-economic background, and most have no regard for the worth of a dollar. Designer brands reign supreme, kids drive cars most middle-aged people dream of, and an overall lack of monetary graciousness is abundant. However, there are definitely those who don't live in such a way and understand the value of a dollar. The students are so apathetic that most don't even realize that we have a student government. Organization of students around an issue has never really happend, except for the recent school paper fiasco.

Hayley

One problem is that there is certainly not enough diversity on campus. Most students are white kids with middle to upper class backgrounds from the northeast. However, there are other ethnic groups and clubs. For example, the Latino Cultural Society seems to be an interesting and enthusiastic group on campus. The society hosts many events on campus. Most kids wear sweatpants, jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts to class. It's very casual. Unless you are a business major, then you might have to dress up for presentations, etc.

ashley

no student feels out of place really, except people who listen to metal music (come please) there are many diverse groups here, but some dont do a good job with their groups. most students wear sweatpants to class, or wear leggings. most qu students are from new jersey or new york.

Ashley

Not diverse enough

Steven

We are not a diverse campus. We are a middle to upper class student body and predominantly white. Most students stick with their roommates and that's all they need. I would guess that most students are politically apathetic and couldn't tell you a thing about the upcoming election (myself included). Anything that has been said about the Quinnipiac student body is generally true.

Lindsey

I find that most Quinnipiac students are from NY, MA, CT, and NJ. The campus has been mostly white students in the past, but I am finding that more and more races, religions, and cultures are being represented here. Most students are "preppy"...they have the UGG boots and Coach bags, but there are also those who choose to be out of the mold that that's fine too. Depending on what clubs you choose to be involved in depends on what types of people you meet...I suggest getting involved because the campus is small enough where you will get to know a ton of different people on campus that way.

Stephanie

Quinnipiac lacks diversity. Alot of white people. Alot of people where designer clothes but at the same time others dont. QU student are mostly wealthy and from the Tri state area. Some studentws are politically aware. Alot have done thigns with recylcling and the genocide in sudan. Students dont seem to talk alot about what they learned during the day.

Amanda

They're pretty sweet.

Morgan

Most students are white. Most students are from Connecticut, Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. I love the fact that all my friends are close when i am home from the summer. My furthest friend lives 4 hours away but there is always the train.

John

Quinnipiac is not very diverse. I am not a big fan of this lack of diversity. I like people no matter what color their skin, what religion they are, or other diverse factors. I do not think that any type of student would feel out of place here except perhaps a punk rock type of person. Students wear a variety of different things to class. Some kids dress up, while others just wear sweatpants. A vast majority of the students here are from wealthy families, however there are people different economic backgrounds. Not many people are pollitcally aware. I think that students here would vote for the candidate their parents were voting for. Some students talk about goals in their prospective careers, however not too many do.

kristin

i dont know about how much they'll earn but i would say qu is more upper middle class; minorities probably feel out of place; tables are much like meann girls with the jocks at one table, more popular kids at another, but there are also people that eat alone. ive seen girls who get up and shower and do their hair with tons of make up and then people that wear sweats..that varies..as for political views..i got nothin

Katelyn

Quinnipiac is typically a pretty "white" campus, however the campus is constantly chirping diversity. Classes such as QU 101, our freshman seminar, are meant to bring the campus together and talk about such issues as diversity. There are many groups of friends but you'll find that many of the groups overlap with intramurals, classes, and group projects. The students don't generally talk about politics, but there's a group for everything.

Shelby

Quinnipiac does not look very racially diverse, but diversity is everywhere, and there are a lot of diversity programs and trainings, such as the Diversity Conference. About 1/2 of QU's students dress up for class, the other 1/2 wear sweats. Most students are from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut. QU is fairly apathetic, but has become more politically aware in the past year or so.

Rachel

I feel like some black people here feel marginalized. Not because the others would be mean to them, but because there are not many. It is just something to consider. Different types of students definitely interact. More students here are politically aware and active than I have ever experienced. And we DO talk about what we learned in class because we actually need to know, for tests, papers, etc. The four "tables" of stereotypes in a lunch room are probably: the preps, the jocks, minorities, and greek life.

Brianne

Any person of color would probably feel out of place here. Its sad but true. A heavy individual would also probably feel out of place because the girls on this campus are obsessed with the way they look. Typical for the winter = uggs and a north face Spring - spandex and a long shirt Typical QU student- blonde and grossly tanned Most students come from LI, MA, and NJ Students are not politically aware of anything at this school You find the people you fit in with when you come to school and they will become your friends for life. Not everyone is rich and snobby, but the majority are. I would never let them influence whether or not I transferred from this school because the education here is worth it. Im sure other universities have the same issues.

Allysa

I know that these groups are available on campus, but i am not in any. I feel like all students would fit in eventually because there are so many different clubs and people seem very accepting. Most students were sweats or jeans to class. This was a change since i used to get dressed up and wear heels, just because, during high school. I feel like people interact with everyone else and are very open-minded. The four tables would have girly girls, athletes, "emo" kids who do a lot of technology stuff, and then a mixed group of people. Most Quinnipiac students are from NY, CT or MA. The financial backgrounds vary, but many people are wealthy. I feel students are politically aware, but Quinnipiac doesn't really let people act on it. I am not sure what the political spectrum looks like for this school. People do not really talk about how much they'll earn, but rather what they want to do.

Andrea

A large majority of the students on campus are white. All different types of students interact with eachother though. Most are from the middle class or upper middle class and from the New England area, mainly CT, MA, NJ, NY, and NH. Quinnipiac students are often politcally apathetic although many groups on campus are trying to change this. Students do not get very dressed up for classes, usually jeans or sweatpants and other casual attire. The "four" tables in the dining hall do not really apply since most people are very similar to eachother. However, one type of table could be classified as the guidos, as there are some of these people on campus.

Tate

Students wear anything from jeans to skirt to sweatpants. Anything is acceptable. A majority of students are from either NY, MA, CT, or NJ. Students aren't that politically aware. Most students are from middle class backgrounds and above.

Emily

Most Quinnipiac students that I have met are from Long Island/New York or New Jersey. There is, of course, representation from other states in New England such as Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and of course Connecitcut.

Blake

There's not a lot of racial diversity here, most of the student body is caucasion. I feel like most students come from middle class backgrounds like myself, but of course there are richer and poorer students, as there are everywhere. Most of the students are from the Northeast, with similar backgrounds it seems. The range of personalities here is great, there are super outgoing, wild people and then there are shy mice. There are girls who wear dresses and heals to class and those who wear sweatpants. Everyone finds their place though, it's not hard to find friends here. And coming from me, that's saying something because I am the shyest person I have ever met.

Daniella

The population here is not very diverse, but people are different--many unique groups and organizations on campus. A student that likes to just be a number in a classroom would feel out of place here. Students wear sweatpants to class and also dress up. Most students dress nicely for presentations and mock interviews. Most Quinnipiac students are from NY, NJ, CT, MA and other places along the east coast. I have met a few students from foreign countries also, such as Greece, Trinidad, and Brazil. Students are not politically aware and active-we are the most apathetic school in this part of the country, according to studies.

Heather

I don't think Quinnipiac is a place where you have to worry about what you wear to class. You can get away with a cute dress while some people are dressed up for SGA or Greek Life and someone else is in sweatpants. Everyone is kind of doing their own thing on a daily basis and I don't think anyone is too concerned with what other people are wearing.

Caitlin

Anyone who is unique or different would feel out of place here at QU. Everyone looks and dresses alike here at QU. People have a lot of money here. Black and white kids tend not to interact that much. Other races do interact. Most students from NY or NJ. People are not politically aware, only half of the students in one of my classes voted - thats rediculous.

Kristin

my roommate and my little sister from my sorority are black so i'm really involved with the BSU events. i recently attended the fashion show, which was amazing, and saw very few white or any other race qu students there. most students from QU are of the upper middle class who have parents who graduated from college. it's hearing somewhat of the same story when i talk to people. any kind of student could feel out of place at QU. i sometimes feel out of place even though im from the upper middle class, white, and a business major. i feel out of place because i dont enjoy following the latest fashions of "juicy coutoure" or however you spell it. i also feel out of place because i dont enjoy drinking nor do i understand it. people pressure you to drink here and it's something that should stop. students dont really talk about how much they'll earn one day but they do talk about the jobs they hope to achieve.

Lindsay

There are many different organizations on campus that people can par-take in. But many choose not to when it could help them out much later in life.

amy

the majority of the population is white. kids wear sweatpants to class, people dont get as dressed as other schools for classes. students here are not politically aware by any means. if somethings wrong at other schools, theyll have protests and stuff. kids here will complain and shrug it off. theres no time for people to paritcipate in debates.

Paige

mostly the kids at qu are similiar. we aren't the most diverse place. but i feel like most people get along and are accepting of differences. students wear sweats to class a lot. most qu kids are from new england. mass, nj, ny, ct. politics aren't big, but most come from wealthy families.

Dale

Way to many girls and little school spirit

Tristan

There have been racial slurs written on campus that upset me because they are so inappropriate. I think that gays, lesbians, loners, and people avidly into the underground music scene feel out of place. Most QU students are from NY, NJ, and Massachusetts and they are wealthy. Very few are politically aware and I wish we could have more conversations about current events in class and out of class with my peers.

Steph

The campus here is very one sided in dealing with race. We are mostly a white community but Quinnipiac is trying to change that. Students normally dress nicely to class but I wear sweatpants alot. Many students are from well of families but then some are putting themselves through school.

Katelyn

there are a lot of organizations that try to make the campus more diverse. Quinnipiac is not known for its diversity, but it trying to make it better

Melissa

Most students wear jeans or sweats to class with a t-shirt and sweatshirt. There are some people that get dressed up everyday. Most students are from the NY, NJ, CT, or MA. Most students are not politically aware and are from a mix of finanical backgrounds.

Julia

The student body here is somewhat diverse. I believe that it could be a little more diverse, but regardless of that fact, everyone interacts with everyone else and there is no discrimination.

Alex

ethnically/ racially different people would feel out of place because everyone is white. students should stop wearing just spandex.

Jackie

most students either wear sweatpants and t-shirt to class, or they get completely too dressed up. This is class not a club.

Carolyn

There are a lot of stereotypes about the students at Quinnipiac... rich, snobby, white. I've even heard people call it a 'country club'. I think most of the people at QU are pretty much the same, but they really aren't snobby. Rich, yes most of them are, but that doesn't mean thy aren't nice people. Most of the students are from NY, NJ, CT, MA, or RI

Ashley

Quinnipiac contacts mostly upper-middle class white kids. A lot from the NY,CT,NJ area. Not a lot of racial diversity...some intolerance on the campus. So a student that didn't fit in to this might feel out of place on campus...although there are a lot of clubs that would accomodate people from diverse backgrounds. A lot of students get dressed fairly nice for class (jeans and a nice top) but others just wear sweats and that normal too. Very politically apathetic.

KC

There really isn't a lot of diversity at QU, but with the exception of a few isolated incidents there are very few issues. I really don't feel like people are politically active, but I really don't think that people are as apathetic as QU is labeled.

Jessica

most quinnipiac students are from the northeast coast

Barbara

This school does not have much diversity, but I think we are all much different than the stereotype of rich white kids.
