Quinnipiac University Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Sabrina

When I enter the cafeteria, I can tell who is going to sit where. Quinnipiac reminds me of a high school. People are friendly to each other, but cliches of friends are usually formed and each group has their own stereotype.

Sarah

Quinnipiac's stuedent body is not very diverse. Quinnipiac University tries to promote diversity and minority but with financial aid lacking and tuition prices sky high it is almost impossible to admit anybody except students from middle and high class families. Nobody wants to graduate with a degree and $125,000 in loans.

Marisa

Although we've had some racial problems on our campus, I think we are progressing and moving away from that. We have many organizations that promote diversity like BSU (Black Student Union), for example. As far as financial background, it seems to be mostly middle and upper class.

Liz

Most students at quinnipiac come from the same social strata. Most are rich white preppy kids . Most students have the money to spend on clothes and therfore you find most students wearing name brand designers especially ugg boots and northface.

Chris

The student body, for the most part, is upper/middle class white suburban kids. Many are from New York, Connecticut, and northern New Jersey. From my experience, there is a large majority of the population that, to me, seems spoiled. Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and other such name brands are typical attire for the guys, while girls are walking around in their $100 sunglasses with their Coach bags and Tiffany jewelry. When walking through the parking lot, BMWs, Mercedes', and other expensive cars are quite common. I come from a city that is litterally miles away from Providence, Rhode Island's capital - I guess you could call it an 'urban ring' community. I went to public school, I drive a 1990 Ford Tempo, and I finally bought myself my first Vera Bradley bag. Needless to say, coming here I initally felt very out of place. Most of the friends I found here come from similar backgrounds, but I also have friends that come "from money" - their families own multiple properties and they see nothing wrong in dropping $100 in a weekend. Every once in a while it's noticable that they come from different backgrounds, but it keeps things interesting.

Christy

- fairly diverse group of students (with different thoughts and beliefs) - fairly large jewish population - lots of people from new jersey and long island - most students are well-off, decent amount of money

Nicole

There are many different types of "groups" on this campus. There is a club for everything that includes majors and political status which talk about things in that area.

Laura

We had a few comments of racial degredation in the beginning of the year, however it has been taken care of in a proper way in order to put it to an end.

Erin

Quinnipiac University is not a very diverse school. Many come from MA, New York, NJ, or CT. Majority come from a well-off family, however, financial aid is available. The students usually get casually dressed, jeans, t-shirts, summer dresses when the weather gets warmer.

Alex

need more diversity-- it seems as though a lot of the white people are ignorant towards other races, etc. need to embrace change and difference

Alexa

There is not much diversity.

Danielle

we had some racial things happen on campus. Quinnipiac didnt take that well Yes different types of students interact. Most students are from New York, Mass, or CT

Royce

Our student body is not very diverse. I attended a high school which had alot of diversity so it is very different here. I feel a large difference in the socioeconomic status at this school. There are many students who seem to just get anything they want from their parents because they are in a high class, while there is a small majority at this school like me who are paying their own way through college and i feel the school expects that we all have support from our parents. I think the school needs to learn understanding that everyone cannot pay for this with only parental support and their are many students who arent a high socioeconomic class here.

Jess

Quinnipiac's population is fairly varied. There are plenty of activities and clubs to show this.

Amanda

Quinnipiacs student body is rather single minded. I feel that many of them have issues accepting students of other ethnicities and that they are very close minded and sheltered. I aslo feel that many of the males at this school are rather rude and have a mind set that they can do whatever they want whenever they want.

Alesha

I feel that Quinnipiac is not a diverse campus. Although it is becoming more diverse, I still feel that everyone on campus is the "same". If you are not white and catholic, you may feel very out of place on campus. I am Jewish and I find that there are not a lot of us on campus. Just the other day, I was talking to another Jewish friend in one of my classes about matzoh and one of the girls sitting in front of me turned around and asked me what matzoh was. Coming from a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, I found this very shocking. I feel that Quinnipiac needs to "spread their wings" so to speak and begin to accept more races and religions on campus.

jessica

Most of the students here seem to be involved and care about a lot of the events that take place here. Yes no matter where you go there will be the people who just don't care, but I personally don't surround myself with that type of group. Yet its not like high school where there are designated spots for the clicks to eat at lunch, in fact i hardly see clicks at all. Yes some people maybe labeled such that they are an athlete or in Greek life, yet there is something more than that to each of us and most people know that.

Nicole

I feel that all student's interact with one another, yet I agree that diversity among us is limited. I feel most studen'ts are normally dressed very casually. Most people I have meet have been from New Jersey, New York and the Connecticut area. I feel a lot of people are upper middle class since most people have nice apparel and have been able to afford to come to this school. I believe students are politically aware and active yet I am unsure of which way people usually lean towards.

maddie

i feel as thought the qu student body is mostly white, there are some minor issues with race, but our school has a lot of programs to fight against it, and we all unify as one. also we all interact very well, relay for life was amazing, and we are all very helpful. The learning center has really nice and helpful tutors to! i feel like most students ar efrom ny, ct, or ma.

Tracy

There is less diversity than i would like to see but i dont think its hard to get along with anyone.

Jo

For the most part QU is the typical suburban , upper white middle class school, with a few "other" in the mix. If you want a diverse campus QU is not the place for you but academically and socially it is.

Jess

mostly caucasian

Blake

Most QU students are from the New England area, and although we may not be a diverse campus everyone comes from a diverse background. It is tough because I would like there to be more diversity among students and I do not feel that Quinnipiac promotes that enough.

Kellie

I went to a parochial high school just outside of Boston with approximatly 450 student. By itself, my graduating class of around 220 had more diversity than you will find among all undergraduates at QU. I never thought I would realize the importance of diversity on a college campus. Students need to be exposed to different lifestyles, cultures, personalities and religions in order to become well rounded individuals.

lauren

there are some organizations on this campus who think that the world revolves around them. they think they are superior to all the other students here. the other issue with the student body is that no one cares. about anything. ever.... the world is melting? oh well. cancer is killing everyone? ive got to get to the bar. without a doubt quinnipiac is one of the most apathetic campuses ever.

Cody

I have never had a problem, however I'm apart of majority of the student body. Most kids wear jeans or sweats. Yea, I think different types of students do interact with each other. Most Quinnipiac kids are from the New England/Mid Alantic states. A few students do come from money but most of my friends when they graduate will be paying back loans. I'm one of very few of my friends who isn't going to be paying back student loans. No I would say most students are no politicially aware or active. Most kids don't talk about how much money they might earn after college.

Drew

i find that quinnipiac's student body needs to become more diverse

Wally

what do most students wear to class?? pajamas!! although there is the odd person who gets all dressed in designer wear.

lauren

The student body is as diverse as it can be considering most kids come from the north east. I feel like the school needs to expand its out of state and region acceptances if they want true diversity.

morgan

Not a lot of diversty. Have been a lot of racial hate crimes. Most students are very well dressed in designer clothes. Most students from NJ, CT and NY. Most students come from well off families. Tables in the cafe would include Freshman, Hockey players, Lacrosse players, Sororities/Fraternities.

Danielle

There is must more diversity at QU than compared to my own town. The dance team I am on is the most diverse club on campus. There is much interaction between people of diverse backgrounds. We have students from South Africa in our hall. Most students are from the North East but you do get people from all over, like South Africa.

Jenna

We do not have much diversity

Samantha

We are not a very diverse campus-that is something I do not like about this university. Many students are from the northeast/new england area. We are also a very apathetic campus.

Alex

I think that pretty much everyone at Quinnipiac is the same. Students aren't pollitically aware and everyone pretty much cares about themselves.

Danielle

-tons of student groups on campus -most students from the north east, come from mostly wealthy backgrounds -not very much diversity, if at all

Ashley

There is not much diversity here on campus, which is our greatest downfall. I would like to see this change in the near future.

Jess

prodominantly white a lot more girls than boys everyone is either from new york(westchester, or long island) or new jersey

alyssa

an emo/gothic kid would feel out of place at qu. students mostly wear sweats to class esp if they live on campus they roll out of bed and go to class. most students are from the northesast mainly ny and ct. and most the kids are rich kids

Taylor

The student body is not very diverse, most people are white middle class catholics. most students wear all the same clothes, uggs, black northface's and abercrombie/american eagle etc. Different types of students do interact there is just not very much diversity overall. I think that our school is not politically aware but that may just be because i am not.

Courtney

Students that attend this school are mostly white and from middle to upper class economically. There is little diversity here. There are some people who are here just to party and some that are actually here to learn. We are known as the most apathetic school, people are not involved in politics.

Colleen

quinnipiac is pretty homogeneous. there are a mix of christians and jewish people here. people usually get dressed for class. i rarely see sweatpants. most of the students are from new jersey and new york. most everyone is incredibly rich.

kelly

little diversity, some people are racist, but major attitude is not, blacks would prob feel a little outta place, i kid around that our entire diversity is the basketball team, most stundent confirm to common trends, abercrombie, hollister, bannana repub, old navy, american eagle, amer apparell, juicy, people still wear other stors though like stuff from marshall n target, but most of it looks the same few people's clothing stands out as unique or thrifty, most student, allmost all are from this area, conn, ny, nj, mass, then maine, new hamp, vermont, rhode i, penn, prob like 5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} form other areas, there is a pretty good diversiyt of financial backrounds, no one is like in the poor class i dont think but there is a good range from low middle to high class here, alot of kids parents pay for their ed but alot alos take our loans, scholarships, and strugle to work as well, many kids here are fortunate but i think there are much less who are spoiled brats, students here are far from politically aware, theres prob a good mix of dem vs. repub, yeah well alot of people here are in the same group of majors so we get a good idea of what our salary will be, but not that many people actaulyl talk about how much there gonna make, we all have our hopes

Melissa

QU is probably one of the least diverse schools I've seen, and that's coming from someone who lived their whole life in Vermont. I have actually been told that one wouldn't expect someone like me to attend this school because I don't come from money, brand names mean nothing to me, and I have to make my own money if I want something, it doesn't come from my parents. The four tables in the dining room would be made of rich girls, sports teams, sorority/fraternity members, and then the small group of diversity. Most students wear Ugg, North Face, A&F, and other brand names, and this isn't stereotype, it's fact.

Molly

You get a number of students who get dressed for class, but there are also many that go to class in sweatpants and sweatshirts. Different types of students definitely interact, i don't see much of a separation between students of different races or religious backgrounds. It is prevalent that most students come from a wealthy background.

Ashley

The student population isn't as diverse as it may apear to be on our website, althoguh we do have many cultural diversity groups and organizations to promote them on our campus. Our student body have a large amount of people participating in many groups inside and outside their areas of study. Many seem to like being highly involved, and social.

Kat

The majority of the students here are women. As all women are into fashion and what not, its common that a lot of us wear the current trends such as Uggs and North Face Jackets. Its not uncommon to see many of the students here have nice flashy items but its not everyone here. To categorize the groups here at QU, it would be the sports teams, the greeks, student government, and everyone else.

Shawn

Most of the students are alike. Either your from new york (staten island or long island) or you are from jersey. Majority of the guys are guido, go figure. All the girls are rich and snobby.

Stephanie

Most students wear comfortable clothes to class, or jeans and a tee-shirt. There are some unique dressers and some preppy dressers, but everyone pretty much follows their own styles. Most quinnipiac students are from the northeast (connecticut, new york, new jersey, massachusetts) Students are not active in politics at all.

Chris

Everyone is accepted here!

Nikki

I particularly haven't had any issues with people of different backgrounds than me. One of my good friends here is gay but I have had gay friends before. He is in a fraternity and has openly come out that he is gay to them and they were very accepting of this which impressed me. I don't think any student would feel out of place at QU because there is such a wide variety of people here. Most students here are from New York or Connecticut but I have found many friends from Massachusetts.
