Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Ally

Students here are very welcoming, accepting and kind. If they see you need help, they help you out. Even if they recognize you from a class you're in together, they'll throw you a kind smile. One thing that's great about QU is that students don't lock themselves off to only talking to other members of their grade; everyone mingles together. I have friends that are juniors and seniors, and they don't look at me as a 'lowly freshman.'

Mike

Now, when you ask me are these stereotpyes accurate, I say mostly yes, but also at the same time no, because I definitely don't want people, especially perspective students to think negatively about QU. Ok, so yes its true, lots of the girls here, and i mean lots do in fact wear the newest trend of UGG boots and their snazzy designer jeans, and all the other crazy expensive stuff they like. Now, do girls here like to dress in revealing clothing and try to flirt with all the guys, again I would say a good amount go. But, I also say no to these stereotypes because even though most do, it is definitely not all. I will admit most of my friends do not follow this stereotype, but I also have many friends who are great people that do. So my main point would be that even if you see people follow these image stereotypes of Quinnipiac, they still could be great people, and I think most are.

Amanda

Not all students at Quinnipiac are like this (though there are many who are).

Amanda

There are definitly some people here that meet that rich, snobby profile but as a whole i think i would say most of the students here are friendly and looking to help and meet people. If they're rich, they don't usually come out and let people know that. As far as the party stereotype, i don't think we are any different than any other university. We definitely know how to have a good time, but we're not excessive. We know when we have to study and i think a certain amount of partying is part of the college experience.

Erin

To an extent, the student body is somewhat homogeneous. I mean, I'm certainly not the only girl on campus with a Louis Vuitton. But the school is expensive, and alot of the kids ( including myself) are there on mommy and daddys dime. But, it's the ones who have taken out loans and are working to get their education that I really admire the most.

Hunter

I mean, students do drink, I would say 3 out of 4 drinks on an average weekend. But the thing about QU girls is crazy, its not even close to true. QU students are just as concerned about their futures as other college students, and while there may be a little more drinking, it seems fairly comparable to other colleges. Most students in my classes do want to learn, and are willing to work hard for it. Its really hard to get a spot in the library on most evenings.

Mike

Uhhh not exactly. I'd say that their are definitely a lot of white, rich and preppy kids that this school. But it is not the majority. The thing about the place being full of girls - is completely true. There is something about this place that girls absolutely love. This school stops accepting applications from girls before guys just to even it out a little bit. Its currently something like 60{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} women. Oh yeah, also, pretty much every girl at this school is fucking beautiful. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if Miss Connecticut graduated from QU.

Lane

parts of it

Katie

Not all. I, personally dont remember the last time I partied. Due to the rigorous testing schedule I have I cannot.

Christina

some are some arnt not eveyone from Quinnipiac is all or any of these stereotypes but some of course are--- they had to come from somewhere.

Mike

They are just about as much as they aren't. Yes, people like going to the clubs in New Haven, and yes, they need to take the shuttle to get there, but the way girls act and dress on Yale's campus isn't seen in nearly the same density at Quinnipiac. The simple fact is that there isn't much nightlife in Hamden itself, so students like to go into New Haven to blow off steam. I can't defend the obnoxious drunk kids who show up the club three sheets to the wind, but New Haven residents should know that this represents only a fraction of the school's actual population, and only really on weekends. As for the "guidos:" there's quite a few of them, there's no denying that, but, again, they only really come out on the weekends.

Willing to say 65{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} true. You'll find pockets of true divergence, and of course greater complexity than a stereotype, always. But a sterotype is not useless because of it. Creative, interesting, alive, conscious people do wander QU's placid campus, you just have to look behind some of the D&G sunglasses to find them.

Sallie

Yes. Popped collars. Tanning salons. Hair gel. Cologne.

Danielle

looking at the tuition of this school,it would make sense that alot of these kids are from families that have a decent amount of money. so in some respects, yes, alot of kids on this campus are from families who can afford to give thier child a higher-cost education. not all the kids on this campus however are the same. just because alot of them(being girls) own ugg boots or north faces-that is a very unfair way of judging someone.

Torry

To a certain extent. You see lots and lots of Uggs and North Faces walking down Dorm Road.

katie

Basically true.

Casey

Yes and no. You only come across the filthy rich or the dirt poor.

jackie

a lot of them, yes.

Liz

not all the time

lauren

No.

Jess

I do think that Quinnipiac is not very diverse and that a majority of students look like preppy rich kids who are living on their parents money.

Ryan

1. Yes. 2. Mostly. 3. Yes, and it is very annoying because it is not an Ivy school and it will never be an Ivy school. 4. Yes, it happens all of the time. 5. Absolutely true, even in serious legal circumstances. 6. Almost. 7. Sometimes it truly seems that way.

Andy

While it may be true that there are many people here from a wealthy background there are also a large number who are middle and/or lower class. Once on campus I think it is obvious that most students are not apathetic and a large percentage of the population in involved in numerous groups and programs that include political awareness as well as awareness of world issues.

Annie

Yes and No. Yes a lot of wealthy students go here, but a lot are working their way through here out of their own pocket.

Stephanie

To a degree they are. Most people are from long island or jersey or mass, but there are people from other places. Not everyone is stuck up, but that seems to be the sentiment that people carry with them. Our business school is extremely challenging, as are our health science programs. People here have to study hard if they want to do well, but they do enjoy going into New Haven and partying on the weekends.

Jennifer

I think that some of them are. Quinnipiac does seem to be a big party school with a lot of drinking going on but i dont think it is anymore than other universities. Other than that I dont think what is going around is necessarily true.

Samantha

True, most of Quinnipiac students come from CT, NY, NJ, and MA but only 60{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the population is female. QU has not been a very diverse campus in the past, but the administration has been making changes and improving the school in this area, so we are primarily white. For the preppy-rich image, most students are stuck somewhere in the middle-class range, and I have never seen anyone walking around in a polo with a sweater tied around their shoulders. And while most students do like to have a good time on the weekend and party we do a great deal of studying and school work.

Jo

Looking at the surface level of Quinnipiac, that is mostly what you see, however when you get to learn the student body, you get to see there is more diversity than you think within the students. Although appearances may seem to give a different perspective, after having been at Quinnipiac for four years I have come to find that the students do have diversity in their interests. For the most part most students do come from the New England area and CT, NY, NJ and it is mostly female. However there are alot of females in the schools of Business and Communications as well as male students in the health sciences.

Steve

Not all, but some. While there are many rich, white kids, not all of them are snobby. There are many nice people at QU. The stereotypes about girls is somewhat true, because MANY girls as well as guys dress in abercrombie, north face, etc.. and ugg boots can be seen everywhere... I wouldn't go as far to say that they are "easy" or skanks. Its not really fair to compare us to Yale, an Ivy League school, as many people may do.
