Quinnipiac University Top Questions

What are the academics like at your school?

Erin

Quinnipiac University has small enough classrooms that professors get to know you as individulas. Majority of the teachers are willing to share time after class if you need extra help. A lot of classes are based on class discussion, so that students are more involved. Many of the majors have high academic requirements to fill, which make our school a little more competitive.

Alex

Academics at QU are good, there is a mix of students who truely care about their studies and those who don't as much.

Alexa

My classes have been hard.

Danielle

the academics is good at Quinnipiac my least favorite class was chemistry with kirby. The nursing department is hard but they just want the best

Royce

My proessors all know my name and show an interest in my academics as well as my life outside the classroom. The library is usually busy with students and the people in our school seem to have a great balance of social life and classwork. I feel i will be very well prepared when i become a nurse due to my preparation at quinnipiac.

Jess

Each major is different in difficulty. Each has a fairly good reputation and does a good job of preparing students for their field

Amanda

I think that most of the teachers i have had at quinnipiac are very personable and friendly. I have had a few that dont know my name but htese are usually classes that are not of my major and that im not that involved in. I feel that most of the classes i have taken here have been very interesting.

Alesha

I find that even in small classes teachers at Quinnipiac generally do not make an effort to learn their students' names. I find that students here at Quinnipiac, although they like to party, they do spend a lot of time studying. The library is usually always crowded and very hard to find a place to study at times. Many of the classes that I have taken do not require class participation, but I think I would have a much easier time learning the subjects if professors asked for more class participation.

jessica

The professors know their students and help provide a comfortable atmospher for us to learn in. By having available office hours a relationship is able to form between students and their professors. The curriculum here at Quinnipiac make the students well rounded and prepare us for our future careers.

Nicole

I feel that the classes are small enough that each of my professors knows my name. My favorite class would be my communcaitons classes since I am very interested in my minor. Class participation is common and people are normally prepared and do well in the classes I have taken. I feel that we are being forced to take too many academic credits outside of our majors. I often worry that I will not be able to graduate because I will not have the credits since so many classes are required from us.

maddie

professors konw our name, and student student often in the health science major

Tracy

The class sizes are great- you get a lot of one on one time with the teacher and there is always help if you need it from office hours, peer tutors, and the learning center. There is an average of about 20 students in each of my classes and there are adequate supplies for everyone in lab. You are more likely to go to class than in a big school because the teacher would probably notice if you were gone. It is easy to stay on top of all of the work most of the time and the library is always open 24 hours and there are always people there. Qu is a good enviroment for learning and some of the profesors are highly respectable people that it is a privlage to meet. Qu's reputation of their programs and classes is still getting better. As a member of the undergraduate physician assistant program, i find that many people acknowledge QU as highly competative and i think that the class size, professors and ciriculum deffinatly encourage students to do their best. But it is still possible to excell in classes and have a good college experience!!

Jo

Academincs at Quinnipiac are amongst the best, the professors know your name and you are not just simply a number, they challenge you academically and you may hate them for it but will thank them when you get into the real world. Sometimes you may get the QU stare when controversial issues arise but in the classes I have majority if not all the students participate and speak up.

Jess

usually you need a 2.0 to graduate and i loved my abnormal psych class the best

Blake

I have had a good experience with my classes and teachers. They are very interested in hearing what you have to say and they are always available after class to discuss a problem that you may have.

Kellie

Great Health Science Department, great reputation in the health field, clinical rotations help build networks that will lead to potential job opportuities. In the Diagnostic Imaging Department, the facutly is outstanding and always willing to help, both academically and personally, outside of class. I know I am far more prepared for my career in DI than any other program I have worked with while in clinical - and that includes programs in both CT and MA. In this department you will find student who are willing to push themselves. The competition isn't amongst each other, its against oneself to be the best technologist they can be.

lauren

the communications department at qu is awesome. i mean, ive had teachers who will come to the bars with us. the reason the department is so great is because the professors dont act like they are superior to everyone else. if a student has a suggestion or comment they truly take it to heart.

Cody

Professors make an effort to learn your name but you have to do your part by answering questions in class so the professor can get to know your name better. I love American History class. I disliked the English 101 and 102 classes. Students study a lot specially at midterms and finals the library is the most busy during those times. It depends on the class and if the students like the teacher and want to keep class following. Sometimes, students have inellectual conversion outside of class but I don't think its to common. I don't see to much competitivness. I like the CJ dept. The professors are nice and always there to help. I was doing poorly in a class and I went to the professors office twice a week every week to do better and get help in his class. I think the academic requirements are fair. I think that the classes are geared towards getting a job because professors who teach classes are out there doing the jobs that they are teaching us, like having a judge, lawyer, or cop as a professor.

Drew

compared to others schools i find that quinnipiac prepares you for the real world. one way they do this is by doing group projects and this helps you interact with all different kinds of people

Wally

as a nursing major we get to know the teachers and they know us by name (for the most part) i dont know about other students but i can say nursing and in general health science student study their butts off! the class i enjoyed the most with the most unique teacher was human sexuality. really interesting.

lauren

I love my professors and my classes have been pretty good Sometimes the core required classes are unnecessary Like, do I really need 8 credits of science?

morgan

Every professor I have ever had knows the name of all students in the classes. Students are generally very competitive. Requirements are getting tougher. Education is definitely geared at getting a job, there are a large amount of on-campus job interviews.

Danielle

My professors all know my name and they all want you to do well. There is individual attention and small class sizes. Class participation is a must. You don't go to class, you don't do well. It's as competitive as you want it to be. There is no extreme pressure. THe focus is more on the individual and doing the best for you and not comparing yourself to others. Quinnipiac is good at taking AP and transfer credits, which is the reason I will be able to do as much as I want to do at Quinnipiac.

Jenna

I like the academics here at Quinnipiac because I like the small classrooms and the professors for the most part are very easy to talk to.

Samantha

All professors really do try to get to know you. They all know your name. You don't feel like one of many, you have a voice in your classes. I am in the 5-year Masters in the Art of Teaching Program (M.A.T). I love taking education classes and all of my professors are phenomenal.

Alex

I think that class particiaption shouldn't be counted as much.

Danielle

-Students are very competitive but still supportive and willing to help one another -Great health science and physical therapy program

Ashley

Professors always know your name here, the class sizes are small and it is a great environment to learn in.

Jess

professors are usually nice, not to hard if you went to a private school, health science seems to be the hardest major, students are more or less competitive, the class sizes are small- like 25 to a class there usually is no intellectual conversation outside class

Jillian

The classes are small enough to get to know the students and professors in the classes. Although there are a few lecture halls, nothing like a big campus would have. Most professors know how to challenge you intellectually and prepare you for the real world.

Ariana

Excellent professors (some bad ones, but every college has those), good curriculum & caring, available advisors

alyssa

most professors know my name, takes them the semester tho. health science majors study the most i think, and class participation is ok. the students in my major (nursing) are competitive. i see the profs outside of class wen i go to thier office hours to go over tests. i feel like the requirements for my major is too high. it stresses the students out too much

Taylor

My professors know me by name, they are all fairly helpful and the teachers seem well equipped. there are some class participation classes and some that are not. i believe that Quinnipiac students are intelligent and there are time that outside of the classroom we do have meaningful intelligent conversations. I have never spent time with teachers outside of the school environment, but i often go to office hours and always say hi when i see them around campus. I came to Quinnipiac for the education i would receieve here, therefore i do believe that is it gearing me toward getting the best job i can.

Courtney

The class size at this school is about 20-25 students per professor. In all of the classes i have taken here, I have felt that I developed a good relationship with my professor. They all knew my name and were very understanding. I feel that this school likes to prepare you for the future. It makes sure the students are well rounded and take several courses outside of their major. As a communications major I am required to minor outside of my school which i feel has broadened my academic learning experience.

Colleen

I love the class size. all professors know my name and things about me. my favorite class is economics because my teacher is amazing. my least favorite class is spanish because my teacher is boring. students are fairly competitive.

kelly

i think most to all of my professors know my name, i am pretty involved during class, least favorite is physics, which i suck at , i like my anatomy classes, they are hard but my fav subject, i also like the psych classes, students study pretty often, class participation isnt very common, but enough that wed dont feel ignored as students or over whelmed, i dont see alot of intellectual convo's outside of class unless your talkin a bout a test or project or apper with someone in your class, the coolest class i have taken is jujitsu for a 1 cred phys ed, i am a health science major and i am in the MAT (master arts of teaching) prog. the health scince dept is very good and very well known, our mat prog is very good too but smaller, more people go to state school for teachin in general, we also have a great law schoola and a big communications dept, qu has pretty fair but some tough academic requirements, for example they just bumped up the gpa to be in honors society i would say most people here range from a 2.7-3.4, education is great but for alot of people its not worth the 40 G a year

Melissa

Some of my professors know my name, I feel that once I'm taking more classes pertaining to my major of Occupational Therapy that I will be more close with my professors. I don't really feel like students are competitive with each other, but I do know that there is always that push to do better individually. I think that academic requirements are reasonable, and even though I don't really enjoy taking so many histories, I can live with that knowing that when I graduate from this school that I will have not only the reputation of the school to help me out, but a solid education as well.

Molly

All my professors know my name. Students seem to study most of the time. I dont spend anytime with professors outside of class. I think that the academic requirements are reasonable and seem easy to reach.

Ashley

As a Business Marketing major I have had a successful and informative 4 years at QU. All of my classes have bettered me and prepared me to become successful in groups, individually, in leadership positions and most importantly in a professional ethical manner. Professor encourage current event discussions to directly relate material to everyday, and are always available for extra help to help you succeed in their classes.

Kat

The classes are great. The education is worth as much as you put into it.

Shawn

The professors are very caring and you can have a personal relationship with them. class sizes are generally small, less than 20 students.

Stephanie

Most of my professors know my name. My favorite class is media history and my least favorite is QU. Students study at their own leisure therefore i dont know. Yes, class participation is common. Some have intellectual conversations outside of class, others dont. Students are relatively competitive. I haven't taken any unique classes, really. My major is media studies and the department is great. Ive loved all my professors, and the classes are extremely interesting. I do not really spend time with my professors outside of class. The academic requirements are fair except for QU seminars which are unneeded. The education at Quinnipiac is geared toward learning, and in some departments, like health sciences, getting a job.

Chris

Class participation is very common. The class sizes are small so this type of open dialog is encouraged.

Nikki

All professors that I have now know me by my name and face. My favorite class is my English class even though it has nothing to do with my major. My professor is just so intelligent and makes English actually fun and writing papers bearable because we get to write about what we want. My least favorite class is art history because it has nothing to do with my major and is SO boring. Quinnipiac students are actually a lot smarter than I thought, many spend a great deal of time in the library and there is definitely grade competition. My major is Physician Assistant but many people have not heard of it because they hear so much about the Physical Therapy program. The PA program is actually a lot more rigorous and difficult to get into rather than the PT program. There are only 18 people in my class as opposed to the 60 in the PT program.

Alexa

I think Quinnipiac students really take advantage of the classes they are interested in. The main complaint are the QU classes that we are forced to take and "dont benefit us" in the long run. I have yet to find a good teacher however. Alot of my professors just dont get personal enough with students and dont take advantage of the small student to teacher ratio. My least favorite class was English. I got a C both semesters which is unlikely for me because I was always good at English. The courses just did not make sense and should not have been what an English class is all about. My least favorite teacher I have ever had in my life was Professor Kaplan for English.

kristen

Class participation in my classes is huge. My classes aren't too large--I have no lectures, and I have classes ranging from the size of 8 students to 30 students. My major is Finance, and all of the finance professors that I've had so far seem to be very helpful.

Kelly

The academics here are fantastic. We have a great reputation especially with the school of health science. However, it is so hard to get the help that you need in your major unless you have all the time in the world to go to the learning center. Class participation is a must for my major, and my class is very close. There are 24 of us and we are great friends. Students are crazy competitive, the PT students are nuts! The most unique class I have taken is concepts of personality and I loved it! I spend time with my professors when meeting with them or at clinicals. I think that QU's requirements are a little over the top; we're not an IVY League school and I think that they forget that.

Sarah

As a Public Relations major, I find that most of my classes provide the students with great experience and tools to use when they get out into the real world

MacKenzie

I am a Public Relations major and my classes are awesome! Each teacher I have taken within the communications department have been caring and also very understanding. One professor has even offered to get me great connections with internships, which potentially lead to a job after I leave Quinnipiac.

Stephen

good
