What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Heather

As a member of the Greek community, I really do believe it is one of the best communities a student can surround themselves with. As a freshman it is sometimes hard to get out and meet people, but once I joined Greek Life I was automatically met with 60 women who I could hang out, talk, go to lunch with on a daily basis. With that came the friendly competition of Greek Week and other social gatherings and many more friends. Now, as a senior, I can honestly say I have been able to surround myself with amazing, driven people on a daily basis due to my involvement in Greek Life.

Caitlin

Most popular clubc on campus are CAP, BSU, and clubs geared towards majors. Im in SGA. Events are only popular if they are mandatory for classes. A lot of people are friends with who they are friends with because they lived near them in the hallway or because of clubs. About 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body is involved with greek life. Last weekend I partied at night, work during the day.

Kristin

i think that greek life is probably the most popular organization on campus with over 500 people involved right now. i'm in phi sigma sigma which is the best decision i've made in my college career. it has taught me how to think about the big picture and how to "aim high" which is our motto. i really take it seriously, some others do not. my closest friends are some in phi sig and my other is my roommate. guest speakers are really important to hear because the allow students to learn more about life after college and take them down a road they may not have thought to go down before. off campus i usually go shopping or go to dinner because i dont like going to the clubs and interacting with the drunk people. because i dont drink, it's not really that fun for me to watch other people act ridiculously and have to explain things to friends the next week.

Lindsay

The growing size of greek life on campus is great. But more people need to pay attention to the get charitable things that we do and offer to the student body.

amy

im involved with alpha chi. greek life is a pretty big thi ng on campus. its not the typical group community. we do alot of fundraiser for our philanthropies, and we try to get the organizations to come together and help each other as much as possible. the dating scene is small, most people dont really date anymore. i met my closest friends through rushing for greek life and then through the first few weeks of it. people can go to spb events if they dont wish to drink.

Paige

i <3 greek life. lots of people go to hockey games, freshman year we left the door open, not as much anymore. dating could be better, but i have an awesome bf so i cant complain. my closest friends are through my sorority and my freshman roomies, 2am on a tuesday, im on facebook. may weekend is the best. people party all weekend. greek life is amazing, but i don't know that it matters much to those not involved in it. which is to bad, we do a lot of really great things.

Dale

I am in greak life and I wish it was bigger and more accepted by the school. It is a bar school

Tristan

As a member of Greek Life- I know that Greek Life is extremely popular and growing. As a whole, the chapters are all really close and make a difference in the community. Hocky games are popular, and basketball is attended, but thats about it. Few people go to the theater or speakers unless they are required to attend. The lack of men in the school disrupts the dating scene a bit and I find girls tend to throw themselves at boys more than they normally would. I met my closest friends through Greek Life at QU. People usually party Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I live off campus now, so I do a lot off campus, but if I'm not out drinking on the weekend, usually I'm watching a movie.

Steph

Greek organizations are pretty big on campus and I am in Alpha Chi Omega and PA Club and Quinnipiac Ballroom Society. Theater is not big here but althelic events are a little more attended but not by much. There are many activites put on my the school that involves not drinking and many many fundraisers for every charity.

Katelyn

every weekend usually consists of drinking and hanging out with your friends

Melissa

The most popular groups/clubs are greek organizations or the sports teams. I am involved in a greek organization. Students always leave their dorm doors open and students are always walking around. Hockey and basketball sporting events are pretty popular while theatre and most guest speakers are not. If I am awake at 2am on a Tuesday, I am usually studying. I met my closest friends through rooming and through friends of friends, and through my sorority. People party Thursday night through Saturday night and sometimes throughout the week. Greek life is pretty important but you don't have to be part of it. You can watch movies and just hang out if you are not drinking on Saturdays. There are also other events to do.

Julia

There are so many clubs on campus that one can join, and I am actually in about five of them. The social life here is good as well. Many people go to the nearby town, New Haven. However, there are many events sponsored by QU After Dark that sponsor movies and fun events on the weekends that do not involve drinking. These events are actually very popular among the campus social life.

Laura

The social life here at QU is good. I am involved in Phi Sig and i love the greek life here and i have only been in it for a few months!

Alex

students leave their doors propped open but no one really communicates in the upper class dorms. Hockey games are popular but nothing else is. closest friends from my freshman hallway. If I'm up late i'm doing homework. May weekend used to happen but the school likes to cancel it. People party alot. Frats/ sororities are only important if you're in them.. if not you dont like them. last weekend i drank but also went out to dinner and to the movies. I don't need to drink every weekend. dinner, movies, bowling,

Jackie

The most popular groups on campus are either the Greek Life or the Student Government. No students do not realli keep thier dorm rooms open. In ledges and Commons you are really not allowed to and well most kids just wont. Frats and Sororities are very important to me becasue I am in one. They are my life, they are where i've found my closests friends and the people who I go to everything with.

Carolyn

Greek life is great!

Ashley

At QU people usually party Thurs-Sat...there is a shuttle that takes students to near by new haven...on thurs. many students go to clubs such as Hula Hanks and Hammer Jaks in new haven. on saturday everyone goes to Toads Place in new haven as well. Friday night people usually stay on campus, hopping from party to party. However, if you don't drink there are tons of school sponsored activites every weekend such as movies..games..contests...really anything, they come up with really creative ideas each week.

KC

Everyone's door is always open, and I really think that's how most people meet their friends freshman year. My closest friends all lived in the same corner of Ledges, and nothing has really changed.

Jessica

students in droms leave their doors open; people party a lot in dorms and off campus; fraternities/sororities are active but not liked too much

Barbara

I am apart of Phi Sigma Sigma, and I'm so glad I joined. I met some amazing women and I feel great when I participate in Greek activities and our philanthropies.

Sabrina

Depending on the dorm you reside in, depends on whether or not you leave your door open. During freshman year most doors are open because we want to get to know one another. People usually just stop by and give you a friendly hello. On the weekends, Quinnipiac students usually travel into New Haven and party at the local clubs and bars. May Weekend is usually the big event of the year that people look forward to. It is the weekend before the last week of classes. Quinnipiac clubs sponser events throughout the weekend, last year we have comedians from the show "who's line is it anyway?", food vendors, moon bounces etc.; unfortunately, it will not be happening this year. Those that are not involved in Greek life continue to stereotype those that are involved. Members of the Greek life community work hard to unite the campus and well as the other members of the sororities and fraternities.

Liz

Greek life!!

Sarah

Greek life is small but powerful. It is unlike other schools in that we do not have sorority or fraternity houses, thus, taking away from the chaos that other schools have in regards to out of control Greek partying. Instead, Greeks hold leadership positions in almost every club on campus including student government and residential life.

Marisa

Greek life is an increasingly important part of Quinnipiac life. We currently have 3 sororities and 2 fraternities on campus that not only accomplish awesome things individually, but also work together to exemplify community service and philanthropy as a whole. For example, my sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma, holds an annual Rock-A-Thon every Fall to benefit our philanthropy, The National Kidney Foundation and we raised over $7000 this year. QU also hosted Relay for Life this year for the first time and as a campus (Greek life included) we raised over 100,000!

Liz

I am part of a sorority and i feel like they should be more prominent and important on campus. Greek life is such a small percentage of our population and i think it should be embraced and treated with much more respect. More people should become involved etc.

Chris

One organization that I'm involved in on campus is the Student Programming Board, which puts on events from about 7-10 PM every Friday and Saturday night. These events include everything from guest speakers, to comedians, to movies, to concerts. It depends on what the event is how popular it is - concerts usually sell out, while a speaker may not be as popular. These events are open to all students, and are alcohol free, so if you're not looking to party on the weekends there are plenty of things to do. Partying is not really pushed on anyone hear, but if you're looking for a party it's guarnateed you're going to be able to find one on any given weekend. In my dorm, our hallway is very close and most of the girls leave their doors open, which allows us to socialize, and we've all gotten to know eachother really well. My room and the room of girls across the hall from us are all living together next year, and they have become some of my best friends.

Christy

- most of my closest friends here are either my roomates or people i live near - reslife does a good job choosing your roomates - frats/sororities are community based - lots of stuff to do off-campus, clubs, etc... - lots of school-wide events weekly

Nicole

Students almost always leaves their doors open especially in the beginning of the year. Towards the middle of second semester it is not seen as commonly, but you already know your hallmates so just a knock and they come on in. On the weekends the school is a decent party school, however, I know enough people that do not drink and they still have fun on the weekends.

Laura

There is always something to do on campus!

Erin

The most popular groups on campus are Greek Life and sports team. I am currently a sister of Alpha Chi Omega. Students like to go to sporting events, especially hockey games. Freshman and Sophmore year dorm room doors are always left open. Junior year its a like harder due to the dorms themselves.

Alex

again, need more school wide events-- on the quad.

Tara

Phi Sigma Sigma is great WQAQ is great

Alexa

You need to be involved on campus.

Danielle

Students party hard here. It depends on what time do students leave there doors open

Royce

I am a part of greek life and it has really opened up my social circuit. it has helped me to attain a group of friends with the same interests as me and i feel it has really enriched my college career. The dating scene sucks. If i am awake at 2am on a tuesday I am most likely cramming for a test in the library. We used to have may weekend where there was a carnival in the quad and the student body gathered to spend time snacking on carnival food and making arts and crafts. DUe to certain incidentces that have happened this has been taken away and i feel the people who took this as a day not to just drink are being punished for some peoples bad decisions.

Amanda

I am in phi sigma sigma which adds to a great deal of my social interactions. But, i do have many friends outside of this organization that i hang out with on a dialy basis. Hanging out on campus was the most popular thing to do being under 21 along with going out on thursday or saturday nights to certain bars in n ew haven. Being 21 many of us go to local bars on most nights and drink at other friends houses.

Alesha

I am involved in the sorority Phi Sigma Sigma on campus. I love being involved in this sorority, but I wish that greek life on campus would become larger. I find that the ratio of girls to guys is VERY uneven and I wish that Quinnipiac would try to decrease this gap.

jessica

There are 72 different clubs and organizations here at QU. So there is something for everyone! By getting involved on any campus a large group of friends is made and it makes the community that is here on campus.

Nicole

I am involved in Phi Sigma Sigma which takes up a lot of time yet has been a great experience and has definatly made me more involved on campus. I feel athetic events are definatly popular but I do not hear of people doing the other school organized events as often. I meet my closest friends through the sorority and also my roommates/floormates. Peopel party pretty often and frequently go to New Haven (clubs, but i mostly go for restaurants) yet there are defiantly other options if people are not interested in partying.

maddie

i feel as thought the sororitys and fraternitys are very well known on campus, and the programs they put on, many students attend. also there are many different ethnic clubs, like quic, amici, Aspa, ect.

Tracy

Its very easy to meet people freshman year through dorming, programs, and orientation. There are always programs going on on the weekends for people who dont want to go out or just to meet new people. Athletic events are not that popular. There are a lot of opportunities to make new friends doing something you like: radio station, greek life, student government, etc.

Jo

There are many clubs that people can join from greek life to cultural organizations to the radio station. If you dont drink there are programs put on by Student Programming Board which they play movies and things of that nature

Jess

phi sigma sigma... its great

Blake

I am in Phi Sigma Sigma and it has been one of the most beneficial aspects to my college career. Since becoming a phi sig, my grades have improved, I have gained more friends and I have been able to take on leadership roles within my chapter. I have loved every part of it and my sisters are always there for me. I know that I can count on 100 other girls sympathizing with my problems and I know that a lot other people can not say that.

Kellie

Everyone can find their niche here at QU as long as they are willing to seek it. One thing that really lacks is school spirit and ANY WAY this can be improved would greatly improve campus spirit and unity. If you make students who live off campus (as a great percentage of them do now) drive to campus, take campus transportation to a sporting event, take the same transportation back, and then be able to provide their own transportation, going to a basketball game has gone from a 2hr even to an all day affair!! From what I understand the parking situation is the issue, and something needs to be done about it. Think about all of the sports teams who could have more support and encouragement from the student fans if getting to and from the game was a little easier. Quickly on Greek Life: It's getting bigger, becoming a great philanthropic and healthy social outlet for students and University Administration needs to realize their growth an POSITIVE impact they can have on the campus. I suggest they take time to see how Greek programs are run at other nearby schools and see how policies can be improved that allow Greek Life to sponsor new events, go on day trips and exist here on campus to their fullest potential. I understand there is a liability issue, but I know it could be handled better.

lauren

most people form their friends around who they lived with/near freshman year. i know that if i didnt live in a particular hallway i may have never met some of my closest friends.

Cody

I'm involved with Phi Sig, S.T.A.R. and Rotaract. In the freshman dorms most kids leave their doors open. The mens athetics are more popular. Guest speakers and theathers are popular when students have to go for a class. Most people find someone to date at school but there are a few who are going with someone from their home town. My closest friends I met in my freshman dorm and from my soroity. If I'm awake at 2 am on a Tuesday I'd either be studing or watching tv. There use to be Mayweekend but that has been cancelled, there is the club fair and midnight madness. Frats and sorotities are not that big but they try to make a different. I hung out with my Phi Sig sisters and some other friends. That doesn't involve drinking, the movies, bowling, go to dinner etc. Off campus, I go to dinner with friends, shopping both clothes and food etc

Wally

greek life is one of the most dominant orginizations that does the most work around campus and the community. athletic events are pretty popular especially ice hockey with the beautiful new rink.

lauren

The school does a good job of providing activities for students, but I wish we had more concerts and things like that

morgan

Most popular organizations on campus would be the sports teams, espeically men's lacrosse and hockey. Sororities and fraternaties are growing rapidly. I am involved in a sorority and Dance Company. I met most of my friends through those organizations.
