What is your overall opinion of this school?

Jenna

The campus is beautiful, which is suppose is to be expected with the amount of money it costs to go here. When I first started here, everyone I told the name of my school had no idea what I was talking about. As years past, the school has gotten more notice and its much harder to get into as well as the freshman class is getting larger and larger.

Mike

It's a medium-sized school set in a suburban, college town atmosphere, but only a fifteen minute ride away from the city of New Haven, which QU offers free buses to get to every day and night until 3 am. There's always something happening on or off campus. Whether you enjoy the nightlife of New Haven or atmosphere of a college campus, they are both available. The administration can be close-minded and unfair to anything that makes the school look bad, but overall they do a good job organizing different events around campus including concerts and comedians. The most commmon complaint is the parking around campus, but that's usually the only one and it actually only really affects seniors anyway because seniors are the only ones that can't live on campus. QU does guarentee housing freshman through junior year, but not senior year. That's probably the main thing I would change, although they are building senior dorms to remedy that and finding off-campus housing is extremely easy to do. School spirit is growing rapidly with the completion of our newest hockey and basketball arena. Overall, I love the school and have enjoyed my three years here so far. I am looking forward to my senior year at QU.

Brett

rich school, spends a lot on asthetics, administration is annoying, we have no rights on campus

Meghan

This school is medium-sized and the surrounding area is not a complete ghost town like a school such as UConn (Storrs) but isn't crazy like the city schools. There is always a lot of fun things for students to do on campus. It is a D I Sports school and the Ice Hockey is REALLY big here. The games are SO fun and everybody goes to cheer on the team. The school is very spirited. The campus is beautiful and is located right next to Sleeping Giant Mountain. The dorms are nice unless you live in Irma/Dana like me :). A lot of people tend to complain about the people that go here by saying that everyone is so money conscious and all we care about is showing everyone how much money we have- none of my friends at Quinnipiac ae like that though. The cafe food is really good (in the beggining of the year :)) and the staff is amazing. -- Stear clear of Alice and Java John in the cafe.

Many people, unless they are from the north-east, do not always know where Quinnipiac is right away. I feel that it is the perfect school for me- it is small enough that I have a close relationship with my professors and yet large enough that I am able to meet new students each and every semester. I feel that hamden is the perfect college town, you are able to get off campus and see a movie and also go shopping. I feel that there are some things about QU which need to be changed. The housing situation, for example, at this point in time has not been handled very well. For example, freshman year most students have access to a kitchen, while the upperclassmen housing does not have access to kitchens. I also feel that it is unfair to have forced triples. I think that Quinnipiac should have given students back money if they were forced into triples instead of simply telling us that that was the way it had to be since we came to Quinnipiac at a time of change.

Stephanie

QU is a very small university, especially compared to the other schools nearby, like SCSU or even Uconn. It does have its advantages, because classes are never bigger than around 30 people, and even that isn't very common. Most professors will make the effort to know your name, and with less students, individual attention is possible more often. Usually QU is considered to be a very impressive school to attend, you'll get a lot of wows when you tell others that you attend. It's not impossible to get in, but QU does have very competitive admission standards. One of the biggest problems on campus right now between students and the administration is prices. Not only is it extremely expensive to attend ($41K+, and rising, including residency), but the prices for food are steep and there are fines attached to just about every wrong move that you make, ie: violations with parking, getting caught with alcohol, even certain classes that you take. But overall you will get a very good educational experience out of QU as long as you really want it. Just like at every other school, QU has its positives and its negatives, but just stick it out and you'll have a very impressive alma-mater to stick on your resume.

Katrina

I love the size of QU, i went to a small high school and didn't want to get lost in the shuffle here. When i tell people i go to QU, they always as "for physical therapy?" Everyone in the area really knows the school very well and we are starting to get national recognition as well. On campus i spend most of my time in my academic buildings! and the library, which is a great hang out place. Our town is not a college town excepting that there are a lot of students living there, it's just as busy when we leave for the summer. We don't tend to have a lot of school pride, until we are alumni! Students frequently complain about the price of tuition, room and board, housing (there isn't any after 3rd year) and parking on campus which is impossible.

Kelsey

I think QU is the perfect size for me. It is not too big of a school but not too small. New Haven is a 20 minute free shuttle ride from campus with lots of fun places to go on the Weekend. There is Sleeping Giant Mountain right across the road and climbing that is a must-do! When people ask me about Quinnipiac it seems the only thing they already know is the Polling Institute but this school has amazing programs for any major.

Zach

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the staff, genuine kids, campus and future opportunities available. I would change some of the more strict out dated rules, or the fact that bringing in more than one guest is a problem. Maybe a little to small, you will see the same people over and over after about a month, and yet there's people you will live next to and never have known it. People are usually impressed when I say I attend this school, especially when people from Connecticut ask. I spend most of my time with my friends in my room. Hamden is owned by Quinnipiac, figuratively speaking. Quinnipiac has a really helpful and generally knowledgable staff. We have had some racial issues and freedom of speech. A lot of people where QU clothes, but very little sporting enthusiasm. QU has alot of geese, and goose shit when you're walking. I will always remember Whitney Village, the terrible shuttle drivers and the Villich crew 2008.

Dana

The campus is gorgeous, plain and simple. It has a great location because Sleeping Giant Mountain is right across the street, plus QU offers free shuttles for QU students to Hamden and New Haven on a daily basis. I do spend most of my time on campus because although taking the shuttle is great, getting it back it annoying to wait for. Plus, were college students so we dont have that much money to spend anyway. The biggest contraversy on campus was that there is no diversity. The best thing about QU is the sports, especially hockey.

Amanda

The best thing about Quinnipiac is that it is beautiful, and very well-kept (no trash, etc.) It is also very safe. The only thing I would change is that the school is becoming extremely overcrowded (in regards to housing, and commuter parking). The food is WAY too expensive, and goes by a dollar basis and not by meal. On the upside, Quinnipiac offers a lot of extracurricular activities through student organizations like free midnight breakfasts, movies, hypnotists, speakers, etc. The entire campus is also wireless. These should be taken advantage of! The campus is small enough that you know most people or see them around, but it is not too small that you see the same people in all your classes, unless you are in a smaller major. It is really nice to sit outside when it is nice out. Commuters spend a lot of time in lounges/the library/cafeteria/etc. Residents spend a lot of time in/around their rooms. The gym is nice but fairly small and usually very crowded. The biggest recent controversey on campus was the discontinuation of the campus newspaper which people are pretty upset about. I don't know what was behind it. There is a lot of campus pride at hockey and basketball games especially, and the new TD Banknorth garden offers free student seats (but they are hard to get and sell out quickly). Upperclassmen don't really get any seniority in regards to events or parking, which sucks. The most frequent student complaints are parking, computer/printer problems in the library, and the strict visitor policy.

Ryan

The campus is gorgeous, well-groomed. The faculty are well-trained and most have high reputations and degrees, outside of QU. On campus, most social life occurs in dorm rooms, but people are somewhat exclusive and clique-y. Off campus, most social life occurs in houses. On Thursdays and Saturdays, social life happens in nearby New Haven, where kids go to clubs. Bars are not aspopular til junior or senior year. There are several in Hamden but they are relatively strict about IDs. Hamden isn't much of a college town - no walking streets, cafes, little shops or small restaurants. There's the typical TGIFridays, Applebees, WalMart, grocery stores, Marshalls, TJMax, Old Navy. Most complaints are about the trendy-ness, cliquey-ness, and expensive cost of QU.

Brittany

One thing I would change at this school would be it's focus on extracurricular programs. They put a lot of effort into the sororitites and frats. but seem to lack giving funds to help stop sexual assaults on the campus which are becoming more and more prominent. QU also has an awful meal system that allows you about $10 a day on food when a sandwich with a soda is $6 alone. Besides the lack of funds for food the options are very poor and have little nutritious value. It litterally gives the students who have eating disorders here to continue and is also a big reason why eating disorders are so rampid here.

Harper

Quinnipiac is a second shot at High School. Weekdays are learning, Thur-Sat are drinking on campus or in New Haven's clubs. The girls are plenty and good looking. The school will rob you of every penny you have and don't care at all about its students.

Alexandra

QU is a fun school, i have made tons of friends, and learned a lot, i think it definitely has many stereotypes, true or false, but QU has a friendly and close knit campus, its hard to meet someone you have never seen before, or someone who doesn't know a friend of yours. However i feel its pricey, they need more food selections, and needs to focus more on students than the appearance of the campus (even though it is absolutely gorgeous), our health services are ok, the doctors sometimes don't know what they are talking about, and the cafeteria workers are mostly insane, but in all i love this school and have had the best 3 years of my life here so far. I am not in a sorority, but a lot of my friends are, if you want to get involved, def join in and it will be much more rewarding, i know tons of people who love Greek life here even though there are not sorority and fraternity houses.

Caitlin

The school doesn't care musch about its students...just their parents wallets.

Adam

I love Quinnipiac. I have had four amazing years and I wouldn't trade my education that i have learned here. the campus is beautiful. most people when i say quinnipiac, usually say what or they have heard us because of the polls, which we conduct. we are gaining more team spirit with the opening of TD Banknorth which is our sports arena where our basketball and hockey teams play at. Quinnipiac, i have made amazing friends which i will treasure for the rest of my life.

becky

Quinnipiac is the perfect size, not too big where you don't know anyone, but small enough where you see your friends constanty. The hockey games are a lot of fun to go to, and everyone gets really excited and into them. Night life consists of going to New Haven on Thursday and Saturday to the various clubs and bars, and Friday night is usually a night most stay on campus. Most people stay on campus for the weekends and don't go home, but it is easy to get home if you need to and don't have a car by going to the New Haven Train Station.

Sarah

The education department at QU is great. One major problem that I have with Quinnipiac is that it is almost impossible to get anything done regarding schedules, grades, etc. without having your parents call. I feel like the students aren't taken as seriously as they should be.

Lisa

Quinnipiac seems very clique-y. The majority of students live on campus, and for the few who don't (like myself) it's very hard to get to know people. I've even heard people who do live on campus say there are too many separate groups. In one of my classes, people said students are all part of the Quinnipiac community, but we're also part of sub-communities that get most of our attention.

Ryan

The best thing about Quinnipiac are the first and last months of the year. The campus is beautiful and everyone is outside and friendly. During the new england winters it can be depressing at times but still fun for the most part. The school is a bit too small for my liking but theres not much they can do about that as they seem to have some overcrowding problems here. Quinnipiac's Residential Life is an absolut joke, they are out to screw students it seems at times, in order to have a good time its better to be off campus on the weekends. Not to mention they took may weekend away from us this year. School pride is rising with the new arena but almost non-existent at times. Freshmen year in the commons was the best year, but there are great memories from all my time spent here, despite my complaints.

Patrick

The people here are all very nice, everybody holds the door for everybody. Our school is about to explode on the national scene, and it's very exciting because we're really on the brink of becomming a very big school. Every class gets to be the "first" in something...my class was the first class to have a full season in our brand new area, next years class will be the first to have the new cafeteria. Every year gets a bit more challenging, so our reputation is contantly growing for the better. People like to party on campus, off-campus parties, theres a handful of bars, and the "clubbing" scene in New Haven is very popular. The college town is there if you have a car and a 21+ id, otherwise you might be stuck for a year or two. Fake Id's are a must for most people, but not all, depends on your friends. Everyone seems to hate the president, which is probably fair. He isn't very personable and his politics don't always agree with the students. He runs this school like a business, we have a lot of money to expand, but the students get screwed sometimes. Housing is NOT guarenteed for all 4 years, it is a horrible lie, many, many students (I do not have the exact number but I know it is well into the hundreds, im guessing 400) do not get housing their 2nd year and even 3rd sometimes. The school newspaper is completly censored by our president, he gets the final say on all interviews done by the administration, to protect our image. Fair, but hypocritical in a institution of higher learning and an esteemed school of communications. School pride is lacking at times, but huge during the hockey games.

Brette

Quinnipiac is a gorgeous school where the academic programs are rigorious. Orientation for incoming freshma is an awesome weekend.

Sarah

The campus is gorgeous, which is what attracts so many people. Everyone hates the visitor policy though. People often complain that the school takes more money from the students than it should. If you don't have a car, you probably won't spend much time off campus.

Ryan

The campus is gorgeous. Great professors, small classes. New Haven is very close and available. Shuttles run there all day every day. Wouldn't switch colleges for the life of me.

Stephanie

Quinnipiac has a beautiful campus. It is a small school where everyone knows everything about you. The town has everything you need but New Haven is where everything is at.

Tate

Campus is pretty sweet. Good food selection. You also have a great view of Sleeping Giant Mountain. The mountain is closeby so you can walk up to the top if you so wish. Only two fraternities because the douchebags like to fight eachother and there wont be any more fraternities until these guys kiss and make up. Hmmm, there's wireless internet connection. Tis good and bad. Good: you can go anywhere on campus and have internet. Bad: you can go everywhere on campus and not have internet.

KC

The best thing is the location, sleeping giant mountain is beautiful and New Haven is so close and there's a lot to do there. It's just about the right size, a little bit bigger class size would be nice. Girl to guy ratio is too big, too many girls. Hamden is boring. Parking is limited and a pain. Library is too small.

Mel

I love Quinnipiac. It's set off in a beautiful place, but there's plenty to do on the weekends. There's shuttles into New Haven so you never have to worry about getting a ride or how to get back. It's not for people that love the city though.

Katie

the size is perfect, its too expensive, beautiful campus, alot of fun events, sleeping giant is across the streeet and perfect for smoking and taking a hike, the hockey season is tuns of fun to go watch, theres always a party going on, the town is nice and new haven it close enough to go clubbing hookah baring or w/e.

Vanessa

I believe the size of this school is just right, not too big but not too small. New Haven is a good college town because the clubs are fun and you around well-known schools like Yale. The adminstration was always very helpful. It is a well known school because of the polling institute, and has a pretty good reputation. If i could change a few things I would choose parking; the shuttle service is so unreliable, and having to park off campus is such a pain. When you want to drive onto campus right in front of your building the security gives you such a hard time, which I think is ridiculous. Also, the diversity on campus is still very small. I know they are trying to expand this, but I feel like it is much less than other colleges.

Jamie

QU is the right size for me, not too big but not too small. When I tell people that I go to Quinnipiac, they either have no idea how to pronounce it, or they know someone who has been a student here. Hamden is not a college town at all. There are shuttles that run between campus and the center which are just shopping plazas. New Haven is a little more of a college town because Yale and Southern Connecticut State University are located there. The biggest recent and ongoing controversy is about the school's newspaper, The Chronicle.

Sara

I enjoyed the size of my classes. I think the biggest class I had was maybe 30 people. Other than that, most of my class sizes were in the teens. Most of my professors have been awesome, but I've had a few professors that have made me want to gouge my eyeballs out. Having graduated, I've learned that some of these professors will do anything for their students once they're in the real world, meaning recommendations, passing along a job they know about, or just catching up through e-mail. My freshman year I was so homesick and was thinking about transferring. I really didn't think it was the place for me, but honestly, you just have to get through the first semester. Everyone has their roommate problems and things like that, and there's ways to get it fixed. But my biggest advice would be to stick out the semester and then make a decision on if QU is really the school for you. Overall, I think most people are annoyed with Quinnipiac administration. I've personally never had a problem with them. My senior year I took a class with President Lahey, and I have to say that contrary to what most people think of him, he's a pretty funny guy. Granted, he's not as much in the public eye at the school as most people would like him to be, but if they gave him a chance, he's not bad. When it comes to school spirit, everyone has love for the men's hockey team. Trying to get tickets to the big games during the school year is crazy and shows just how much people love the team and support them. They've been doing well in recent years, and with the new arena, they're only going to become more popular.

Ali

The School is great academically and I think it is the perfect size. Unfortunately there is alot to do in New Haven- which is a shuttle ride away, but not alot to do on campus during the weekend. Hockey games are where school spirit shines.

Tara

School size is just right. Best thing is the central quad where everyone walks through. Alot of people I talk to don't really know about Quinnipiac. Without Quinnipiac, Hamden would definitely be lower in their revenue - alot of the places around here rely on Quinnipiac students for their incomes, especially local bars. School pride is not a huge thing here; only during men's hockey games do you see students rooting for their school.

jess

Quinnipiac is probably most known for its gorgeous campus. It is a very nice place to live. Most of the people I have met here have been really nice and very friendly. And for the most part, the faculty, staff, and parts of the administration have always been very nice and easy to work with. The one problem with the school is that there are too many students than housing. The university really needs to fix that problem because of the lottery problems that have been experienced every year. The most recent controversy on campus is the one between administration and the journalism department/The Chronicle. For a school that has a huge communications program, gives out a free speech award every year, and prides itself on its journalism - it is not a big supporter of the newspaper nor is it a big supporter of free speech.

Marissa

Fun school, good academics, decent people

Zachary

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the nature theme the college campus has and how the classes are organized into the specific locations of the campus where students are able to reach to use.

Ashley

Hands down, the best part of QU is the gorgeous campus. It's a great size and there are things to do on campus and off. It's your typical college experience. Some people have school pride, but there's not much. The worst thing is that it's filled with people who are the same, but usually they're nice.

Matthew

The best thing about Quinnipiac is finding the 0.0001 {4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the population does not behave in this way, wear these clothes, share these values mentioned in the stereotype. They are hard to find but the fact that they stay here to weather the overwhelming tide of bullshit culture that surrounds them is really fantastic. The faculty as well is outstanding and really makes you wonder how a population with these incredibly conformist values tends to exist with some truly unique and diverse perspectives teaching the courses here. I stay here for those people and for the excellence of the Communications and English programs here. I've also obtained fantastic internships from the QU internships database that give me a lot of faith I can find a job in a competitive industry as the music industry.

Jesse

Quinnipiac does not have a very large campus, but it's more than enough, and doesn't make classes too far away. The food is not so great at the caf, but there are a lot of places to eat and order from, and many dorms have kitchens. The quality of life is very good here, and the upperclassmen dorms are amazing compared to other colleges. Teachers are very approchable, they know your name and what kind of student you are, etc. Problems such as maintenance and security are very quickly fixed. All in all, Quinnipiac is very accommodating to students

Bobby

the best thing about quinnipiac is it's comfortableness. i'd change people's highschool attitudes. school is almost just right size but a little too small.

Nicholas

The best thing at QU is the campus and the tight-knit community feel. One thing I'd change is better food and more housing options. School size is perfect. People react positively about me going to QU because they know it's a very strong school. I spend most of my time in my room. QU's administration is pretty solid as a whole...could use a few more good teachers in certain subjects though. There is a lot of school pride at athletic events for men, but that's about it. One experience I'll always remember is orientation and joining TKE. Most frequent student complaints are poor food options, food is too expensive, not enough money on meal plan, too little parking on campus, housing lottery.

Robin

small school, meal plan blows, shuttle system sucks, every thing else is pretty good.

TJ

The thing that I would change with our University is its strict policies. Every campus has rules and regulations but I feel that our University is catering more to the needs of the small Hamden community rather than its students. Censoring the campus newspaper, canceling May Weekend, making students find housing on their own senior year...these are all issues our campus is facing and it preventing our university and its students to feel united. Also, our campus is growing since the University is accepting more students; the problem with this is that Quinnipiac did not anticipate such an immense increase. Last year I lived in a room with ten other girls (3 forced triples and one double). Although we made due with the close space, it was hazardous and uncomfortable. Quinnipiac needs to be aware that if they are going to accept more students, they need to be able to accommodate the current students.

Danielle

Quinnipiac is gorgeous. The student body isn't huge so you see familiar faces and you don't get lost in the crowd. The town of Hamden has it's perks, like resturaunts to eat out at, and numerous supermarkets to shop at, but it's also not the nicest looking town. Hockey is a huge thing, during hockey season it seems like hockey is a major part of everyone's weekend plans. Everyone wears the yellow bobcat shirts at the games to show support. There was one huge controversy at the very beginning of the school year; people were writing derogatory words on people's whiteboards and it got blamed on the lack of diversity.

Jamie

The best thing about Quinnipiac is that the girls are very easy. Its not hard to randomly hook up with a girl, especially when they are fake drunk. One thing that should change is the price of tuition.. $43,000 for 2008-2009, ridiculous. The school is very over crowded, they are starting to build off campus dorms to inconvenience the students even more. People immediately think that I am a snobby rich kid. The town is Hamden, Conn. The police hate the students, the town hates the students.. there are never specials at any bars, and most are dive bars that are $5+ for a beer and also have cover charges. The Quinnipiac administration cares nothing for its students. They are slow to respond or react to any student problems/concerns. They also provide little to no support for non-athletes. The most recent controversy on campus was Basketball players urinating on a female. No action was taken to discipline the athletes. There is no school pride. 60 million dollar off campus arena, basketball games are empty and they only give 1000 student tickets for hockey. Quinnipiac was known for its Spring Weekend, the school administration has banned that. For seniors.. there are no parking spaces to accommodate the amount of students off campus.

Adam

Quinnipiac is an interesting school in many ways. It does draw an interesting mix of people, but for the most part everyone is too similar. It is in fact true that some of the students here are directly from an Abercrombie catalogue. At the same time there are a lot of well versed and enlightening individuals. It is a small sized school trying to be a big school, and there are too many students for the environment. It wasn't meant to be so big, and the current expansion appears to be a very greedy endeavor by the administration. The administration is like an aristocratic family attempting to hide the bad seed of the family (being the reality of the student body). Since it is a private university, the powers at be do anything necessary (including jeopardizing student's rights) to keep the public image up to par. Very superficial.

Hayley

The school size is certainly just right (at least for me!). When I'm walking around campus, I always see familiar faces, but I can't say that I know every person at the school or in my year. I'm always meeting new people. Quinnipiac is in the perfect location. Downtown Hamden has everything you could possibly ever need. The campus is extremely safe and in an absolutely beautiful suburban area. However, if you're craving a more urban atmosphere, New Haven is also right at your fingertips. I love it! The city has much to offer, and at night the downtown area is full of college kids. The classes are challenging but managable. Professors are extremely nice and available. One problem the school has it that all of the dorms for upperclassmen are either 6, 7, 8, or 10 people. It's great to live with a bunch of your friends, but it doesn't always work out that way. Quinnipiac assigns housing by giving you a lottery number. You register as a group of 6, 7, 8, or 10 and then the computer randomly gives you a number, which allows groups to select their desired dorm in chronological order. If you can 1) find a group and 2) get a number then the housing lottery isn't bad. However, sometimes it's very hard to make a group and if you don't get a number then you're group will probably be forced to split up. Chartwells is the company that supplies food for the cafeteria and the prices are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! One meal at the caf could have bought me take-out four times. It's awful. The food is just okay - certainly not great or something I would opt to eat. Quinnipiac's administration and security are sometimes a little too strict, but I do understand that they are only trying to protect their students. However, overall, Quinnipiac is a great place.

ashley

school size is good, its a medium sized school. people dont really know where quinnipiac is, so its not that well known, it is known as a party school, i spend most of my time in my dorm, quinnipiac blows, shuttles are terrible, you pay too much money, there are limited dorms on campus, and as a sophmore you might not get a room, stupid saying is that you cant spell liquor without qu. student complaints are about may weekend being taken away, the shuttles being absolutely fucking terrible, limited dorm space, most of the time you have to park off campus
