Quinnipiac University Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Ashley

Cool, need more parking for commuters if your not going to provide seniors with housing.

Steven

The campus is beautiful, but it is hardly utilized. Activities are at a minimum and the student life is dull. The athletic teams have no student support at all. Hamden is hardly a "college town" and the only shred of nightlife is in New Haven, which can get very redundant. I don't feel that this is a very student oriented environment as much as it is a business. I also don't feel that the students themselves even have a clue as to why they are in college, nor do they care.

Lindsey

Quinnipiac was my first choice school and I love it here. For me, the school is the perfect size...a closed in campus with a strong sense of community is what I was looking for and I found it here. When I tell people that I go to Quinnipiac the two reactions I usually get are "Where's that?" and "Wow...what's your major?" The people who know about Quinnipiac are usually impressed when I tell them that I am a PT major there. On campus, when it's nice out, I spend most of the time chillin on the quad with friends and just enjoying the weather. During the winter I usually hang out in my room or in friends rooms. One thing that I love the most about Quinnipiac is that I feel like there is always something to do, whether it's going into New Haven on the weekends or just hanging out with friends...I don't usually find that I am bored here.

Stephanie

School is a medium size, perfect size, you get to know alot of people. People think of Quinnipiac as a very good school especially the nursing program. Quinnipiac is close to New Haven, has lots of activities, and groups. I spend alot of my time on campus. Great teachers!!! Biggest controversy was that they took away May weekend. Quinnipiac needs more school spirit! We have a brand new arena. Another downfall is housing problems. Great school.

Amanda

Quinnipiac is just the right size. Most of my time is spent on campus and I have made some awesome friends while being here.

Morgan

Quinnipiac is the perfect size if you are looking for a middle-sized school, not too small or too big. You see a friendly face everytime you walk to class. Dorming on campus is a great experience, its like a small village. Everything is close to your classes. The town of Hamden has everything you need. Professors are great and classroom size is very small. Every professor you have at Quinnipiac will know you, no lectures. Night life is fun. We are very close to New Haven which is full of places to eat and go out at night. And there are a couple of places in Hamen which are fun as well. Even if you do not want to go out, there are always things going on around campus.

John

One thing that I would change about Quinnipiac is how conservative the administration is here. They are trying to become an elite school, yet schools like Harvard, Yale, Brown all have very laid back methods of governing the students; Quinnipiac should adopt methods along these lines. There is no "college town" near Quinnipiac. Either you stay on campus or go to New Haven to go to the clubs or bars. The size of the school is nice. I always meet new people on the weekends. Most of my time on campus is spent either in my room or in the library. A recent controversy on campus how the Quinnipiac administration took away our May Weekend. There was no concert or events like that. A lot of students were quite mad at this. There is a lot of school pride, especially during hockey season. Hockey games are the most popular athletic events here.

the best thing about Quinnipiac, probably the campus..our maintenance staff should be rewarded exponentially with how nice they keep the campus. with that, though, i think some of the rhd's and ra's take their job a little too seriously. i can understand underage drinking is against the law anywhere but to get in trouble for something like courteously hours which my rhd made it sound like quiet hours at ten at night on a friday? how loud could my ipod honestly have been playing? and then I’ve seen students go in and say they were not responsibly for things that happened and they were still help resposible..and the probation and deferred suspension? they make it sound like we're criminals for wanting to enjoy ourselves. we know they have to be responsible authorities and do whats right, but this campus used to be known as a party school. and that with the gorgeous campus we already have and fine , fine academics is what makes kids come here. i know of many students who have transferred and chosen not to come because they say its "too strict" and its "not fun". we need greek houses, more greek life, sports houses..the rat used to be a bar..why take it away? that kind of stuff, though it sounds irresponsible is what makes kids say, i love my school. honestly? i like it a lot, i do have fun, but not as much as i would like. and so you say then transfer..but im doing well, ive only gotten in trouble once, so its not like im bitter, but I’m ok with it, I’m settling..if I could do it over, i might look else where, but then again who else wouldn’t say that after two years of college, i suppose. you see what you really want. i just wish they would loosen up a little. may weekend is great, and yes there were problems and that is extremely extremely sincerely, unfortunate..and this year wasnt too bad, but it wasn’t the bbq or food or concert or any of that stuff that caused those problems. people are still going to drink. i say bring it back. ok, off that soap box..also kind of wish we had a football team..wish the school was bigger..when i say i go to qu they either say, ohh, the polling school, or, where is that ???, most of my time on campus is in my room or at class, nice day? quad, i go to the gym, other people's rooms..hamden is not a college town, i dont think..qu admin? could stand to loosen up, biggest recent controversy? um, I’m not sure, we've had a lot of ethical problems, but sometimes when big deals are made, this provokes kids more, but also i know it had to be taken care of somehow, also, immaturity gets in the way..school pride? mostly in the winter at hockey games..wish there was more..unusual? i dont think so..one thing ill always remember are my friends, love themm, most popular student complaints ? security being too strict, and there not being enough parking.

Katelyn

Quinnipiac is just the right size for me. It's big enough that you're always meeting new people but small enough that you see a friendly face everywhere you go. Night life at QU consists mostly of the clubs in New Haven, CT on Thursdays (for everyone) and Saturdays (if you're 21). The school pride of QU is shown through our hockey team, especially on the Yale vs. Quinnipiac game. The student section is overflowing with gold shirts cheering our team on.

Shelby

If I could go back in time to my senior year in High School, I would 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} pick Quinnipiac again. I absolutely love it here. The student body is the perfect size that anywhere you go you see someone you know, but you also meet new people everywhere. The campus is beautiful with Sleeping Giant State Park right accross the street. When looking at colleges, QU was by far the nicest campus I saw. My two complaints about Quinnipiac are that the library gets very crowded during midterms and finals, and that the parking lot floods a little when it rains.

Rachel

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the size. I used to want to go to a larger school, such as UConn, but now I am so glad I chose this medium sized school. It is important and "safe" to feel that you know a lot of people you can say hi to when you're walking to class. The campus is GORGEOUS and in the Spring, the quad looks like a beach, everyone is outside with friends listening to music. New Haven is about 10 minutes away, has a million night clubs, and the shuttle takes everyone there. The school pride is incredible, especially at Hockey games-- everyone goes. I guess a downside is that there is no football team but the Hockey games definitely make up for it. I'll always remember the T-Pain concert and just every weekend with my friends, whether on campus or road trips to friends' houses. The most complaints are that people do not like the "quality" of people here, but personally, I think those people have personality flaws! Everyone is SO nice and its impossible not to make a great group of friends unless you hide in your bunk!

Brianne

The best thing about QU is the campus. The buildings look brand new, the technology is always up to date, and the scenery is gorgeous. One thing I would change would be the cafe, but they are doing that next year. It was to small for the amount of students. When I tell people I go to QU most of them know where it is and always comment on how beautiful the campus is. I spend the majority of my time in the dorms doing work and hanging out with my roomates. We go into New Haven every weekend on saturdays, but fridays we stay on campus.

Allysa

I feel the best thing abou Quinnipiac is the internships. I know that one of the reasons I wanted to come here was because I found out about what internships the School of Communications had. One thing I would change about Quinnipiac would be the teachers. Mant teahcers, especially Math prof., do not really speak English well. This makes it hard to learn and very tiring. I think my school size is just right, but then again, i also came from a graduating class of 792 and a high school of 3500. When I say I go to Quinnipiac, most people have not heard of it unless they are familiar with the progrmas, then many know it is well-known in Communications. Most people go "Quinni who?" I spend most of my time on campus roaming around or in my room. But when it is nice outside, I try to do anything to be outside. "What college town?" I dislike how we have to take the shuttle to ANYTHING we want to get to. I think Quinnipiac's administration is very educated and experienced as well as friendly. The biggest recent controversy on campus is getting rid of May weekend. I feel like there is tons of school pride, especially for hockey games. I think that there is not anything unusual about Quinnipiac, but the attractions to the campus are Sleeping Giant Mountain and the beautiful campus itself. I will always remember the first hockey game as well as the Yale hockey game and the energy sports games bring out of people. The most frequent complaints are how early the cafeteria closes, but this might be changing.

Andrea

The school is not too big but not too small. You get to know the people in your dorm very well because its not overwhelming large. The hockey games are very popular and the tickets always sell out. Its a friendly atmosphere. In the warm weather, people often do work out on the quad or hike the sleeping giant mountain which is directly across the street.

Ross

great middle sized school for most majors and people of most walks of life. very little racial diversity but a broad range of people and interests. many leadership opportunities but as soon as you challenge anything you are shut down. administration is very concentrated on the schools image and the longterm growth and success of the school. It leaves the current students treated poorly and shoved under the rug.

Tate

I would change the boy-girl ratio to more equal. I wish there was more school spirit.

christine

I believe that quinnipiac is the perfect school for the type of person who wants to go to a school where you may not know everyone, less of a high school type of enviroment, I would say that it is right about in the middle size wise. Also it would be the perfect school for someone who does not necessarily want to be in a city enviroment, but to have easy access to the city.

Emily

I like the size of Quinnipiac. It is just large enough that it is not too small, but the small class size and campus are very appealing to me. It also allows for the campus to well maintained since it is so small.

Blake

Quinnipiac is the perfect size for me, I always recognize people when I'm walking around, but I'm always seeing new faces, too. There is a really convenient shuttle service that brings students into downtown Hamden about every hour, seven days a week, as well as into New Haven a little less frequently. The area is beautiful, especially in the fall when the leaves change and the spring when everything's blooming. I spend most of my free time hanging out with my friends; in the dorm, or sometimes we go into Hamden to eat or shop.

Daniella

Our school is a good size with good sized classes. Most people have never heard of Quinnipiac when I tell them where I go to college. I spend most of my time on campus in my dorm and friends' rooms. We really don't have a college town--the nearest one is New Haven by Yale University. The administration is very helpful and kind. The biggest recent controversy was President Lahey censoring media through the school's newspaper and news production groups. There is a decent amount of school pride and nothing very unusual about school. I'll always remember going to hockey games with my friends. Most frequent student complaints are the high prices of food in the cafeteria--you run out of money very fast. Also, there is no place open very late to get food.

Heather

Quinnipiac is a picturesque campus, which is often refered to as "Disney World" mostly due to the fact that you will rarely see garbage anywhere and that the campus always looks beautiful. This is one of the major points that attracts many people to Quinnipiac. With such a beautiful campus, its easy to see why people are drawn to such a place. I think our school is the perfect size if you aren't looking to be a number. I like the feeling of walking down dorm road and seeing at least 25 familiar faces; it brings a sense of home at a time when many people can feel homesick.

Caitlin

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the campus community. I love the people that are involved on campus. One thing I would change is the school spirit. There is a lack of school spirit and many times it is difficult to get people to go to events. Perfect size. People know about QU through the polls. I spend most of my time in classes, in the student center, in my room, or in the library. I like the administration here. Biggest controversy was the racial slurs 'nigger' on freshmen dorm rooms. No, not a lot of pride. Most frequent complaints are the lack of parking.

Kristin

i would definitely tell people to come here but i woudlnt lie to them and tell them that it's diverse or tell them that it's not similar to high school in some ways. you still have the girls who think they are better than you because they have the latest fashions that they display in class. you still have the people who just come to college to party and drink every weekend and barely pass their classes. there are these people everywhere and they'll never change but once you find you niche, you'll be fine. students frequently complain about diversity and that we dont have any. however, i find very few students who arent of color at the black student union events or people who are not in the club, GLASS, at the events. if people are looking for diversity, they actually have to go and LOOK for it. it's not going to come knock at your door, especially in hamden, ct.

Lindsay

It is a great size. However, the rate at which they are accpting new students may be to much for the current size of the campus. It will slowing change, but one day it is going to be known around the country as a great place for higher education.

amy

my schools just right. most people dont know about our school. they said quinni what? people that know the schools are impressed by it.i spend a lot of time in my dorm. theres not a lot of school pride. i feel that a football team would boost that but i know that we cant. the only thing i could think to complain about right now is that the administration is not student friendly.

Paige

i love the campus. the attmosphere. it's a small school, but is a great size. you don't feel lost or like you're just another student number. you're a person. the town isn't really a college town, but the next one over is, so we get both worlds. parking is an issue. and lots of people complain about admin.

Dale

I would like a college town and a football team

Tristan

There should be more local bars in walking distance of QU. The size of QU is just right. People from my town don't know that QU exists. We really need a football team to bolster school pride.

Steph

I love going to school here at Quinnipiac. The campus is gorgeous and there is always something to do. For me it is really close to home and for going out purposes its right next to New Haven which has a good night life. Education here is very good and I'm in the PA program which is ranked best in the state.

Katelyn

the best thing about quinnipiac are the people i have met and friends that i have made

Melissa

I think the size is perfect. You are able to get to know a majority of the people or they at least become familiar but you do not feel like the school is way too small. People usually say "where is that" or "is that the place that does all the polling?" when I say I go to Quinnipiac. Also, I think there needs to be more Quinnipiac school pride and wish everyone was more involved with the athletics. I was always remember my time as part of a sorority.

Julia

Quinnipiac is an amazing school. The campus is beautiful and the curriculum is prestegious. The college town near us is New Haven. Students like to go there on the weekends and hang out, but many people stay on campus as well. There is a big amount of school pride on our campus especially with our sports teams. Lastly, everyone is involved in the campus community becuase there are so many clubs available for one to join.

Alex

good school but it's getting too populated for the size of campus. Not a college town. The administration doesnt handle problems well. Shouldnt have taken away may weekend. Only school pride for quinnipiac

Jackie

One thing I would change about QU is the parking situation. I feel that all student reguardless of class should be able to bring their cars on campus. The shuttles here are very unreliable and it leave freshman in the position of taking the shuttle and possibly it not coming or asking people to take them places. One of my most memorable experiences was Orientation but it has changed alot and I think that is something that should be looked into changing back. The most frequent student complaints is that the official May Weekend has been taken away. I realize that there was a fatality last year, but the activites that are in teh Quad on Saturday should not have been taken away.

Carolyn

Quinnipiac has an absolutely beautiful campus. However, they are letting more and more students in which sucks, because it's a pretty small school, but I like that it's small. The library definitely needs to be bigger because it's already hard to find a seat. And the cafe can get really crowded and I don't think it's set up well because there's always people walking in all directions. But the food isn't too bad, and I think the professors at QU are great. They really care about their students and you can go to them for anything.

Ashley

Quinnipiac is the most amazing place ever...i love it here. it's definatly just the perfect size...especially class size...all of your professors know your name and you feel like you know them too. i would probably change the cafeteria..often very crowded and not that big of a variety of food...but they are expanding it next year. Biggest controversy has to do with the censorship in the student newspaper.

KC

Quinnipiac is a perfect school for people who don't like being in a crowded place but still want to have access to a city. It is a small school, but it's comfortable. The only real issue with Quinnipiac is race, but I don't remember there really being any problems before this year. There are several groups working to rectify that though. People are incredibly into QU's sports, but no one really shows any support for the women's teams, which is unfortunate because our women's basketball team is amazing. Very few people have actually heard of QU, but the general reaction is "that's the place that does the polling, right?" I think the biggest complaint on campus is the food, especially price, but that's the biggest complaint on every college campus.

Jessica

most frequent student complaints is cafeteria food; no variety

Barbara

I really like going to Quinnipiac. I like the size of the school and I feel I really belong and fit in with everyone on campus. I don't think our administration is the best, but the school itself definitely opens doors. When I tell people I go to Qu, they are extremely impressed.

Sabrina

Quinnipiac is an absolutely beautiful campus that is set in the middle of Hamden, CT. The school size is perfect for those that want and need personal attention from their professors. One of the things that I love most about Quinnipiac is its Greek life and one of the things that I dislike about Quinnipiac is its cafeteria food. There is not much selection and you are bascially forced to each the same things day after day.

Liz

my school is just right, people have no idea where my school is or how to say it

Sarah

For a gorgeous campus, Quinnipiac's dorms are lacking. I lived in a forced triple last year in Troup and it was one of the most awful experiences of my life. I had to climb on my desk and jump into the top bunk of my bed because the school did not provide two ladders, nor was there room for two ladders. There was no air conditioning, bass music blasting throughout the halls 24/7, and not enough space.

Marisa

I think the size of Quinnipiac is perfect - not too big and not too small. And although it bothers me that some people don't know where exactly Quinnipiac is located when I tell them that I go here, I have noticed that we are becoming more and more well known since I first enrolled. Some argue that there is not a lot of school pride because we do not have a football team but I disagree with that. Walking up and down dorm road, there are so many people wearing Quinnipiac clothing that it is difficult to count. And in my opinion, football is replaced by hockey. A lot of people attend the games and I've had a lot of fun at them in the past.

Liz

The best thing about quinnipiac is the size of the campus and the academics. The size of the campus is not to big , not too small and the academics especially the health sciences are excellent. My only complaint that i have noticed more recently is that the school has slowly been becoming a suitcase school and i feel if there was more to do on the weekends that wouldnt be a problem.

Chris

One major complaint I have with Quinnipiac is the security's overabuse of their power. Many of the security underlings are demeaning to students, and seem to go out of their way to make things difficult for the students. While parking is a major issue on campus, security's inspection of cars, especially cars full of kids, is ridiculous. Not all security personnel are this way, some of them are very nice, but others abuse their power, and make things very difficult for the students. Also - the guest policy on campus is ridiculous. It's not fair that students are only allowed to register one student at a time. This policy only creates greater problems. When a student has more than one friend coming to visit, they have other students register their extra guests. Now there is a student walking around campus who is registered to a person they might not even know, but they register this person, because they know that their friend would do the same for them.

Christy

- perfect size - not too big and not too small - beautiful campus, easy to get around - very friendly people - some problems with res life and housing - dorms are nice, love having three roomates

Nicole

The professors really try to get to know you and want to see you succeed. The school is just the right size that everyone does not know your business but small enough that there is a level of intimacy and not intimidation.

Laura

I loooove our teachers and administration!!! Our cafeteria is expanding, thank God! Our school should be a little bit bigger but it is a very good size as it is.

Erin

Quinnipiac University is a good size school, not to big but not to small. It is a well-known, and very challenging in academics. It has a beautiful campus, surrounded by the Sleeping Giant Mountains.

Alex

I feel as though Quinnipiac is to conservative-- as compared to other schools like Conn College, Brown, Barnard, etc. Too strict-- we're not in high school, and we pay good money for this school. I think there should be more day time events on the weekends and more publicity for those events-- festivals, etc. I also think the school needs to do more about diversity without making it obvious (having minorities stay with other minorities for a night?)
