As I’m completing my final days of my first semester at Ramapo I can confidently say that I have made the right choice for me. The campus is absolutely beautiful and has some of the best dorms in the country. I have more than enough storage, study spaces, and dining options at my disposal. A few things that have negatively impacted my stay at Ramapo would be the registration process. Although I am aware that other schools have very similar processes, mine was anything but smooth. The website crashed when I was trying to enter my classes for the spring semester. Although I made the best of the situation, I know that many students in a similar position were unable to get their required classes or express some form of dissatisfaction.

Having attended Ramapo College of New Jersey, I can attest to its excellent learning atmosphere and opportunities. The professors are highly qualified and committed to providing the best educational experience possible. Its programs, from sciences to humanities, offer something for every student. I took exciting courses that helped develop my critical thinking skills and field-based research opportunities that provided real-world experience. The college also offers a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities that enrich the educational experience by providing leadership development and networking opportunities with fellow students across all majors. I found many outlets that suited my interests, which enabled me to get more out of my college experience. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I took full advantage of on-campus and online courses supporting rigorous academics, meaningful internships, and clinical and extensive engagement within the surrounding community. These experiences not only prepared me for a successful career after graduating but crafted an unforgettable collegiate experience. I cannot express enough how beneficial Ramapo College of New Jersey was to my academic and professional development. The relationships I formed, the information I acquired, and the confidence I gained molded me into the person and professional I am today. I highly recommend this college to anyone looking to develop their future career aspirations. Its wide array of courses, excellent professors, student-led activities, and close community involvement will help you reach your educational goal in no time. What I liked most about Ramapo College was the amount of support for the liberal arts. The college truly understands the value of a broad education. So they have an impressive range of courses in humanities and social sciences, as well as courses in more specialized fields.

I love Ramapo. From the moment I got here I felt safe and comfortable. Thanks to the awesome resources and wonderful staff I am able to focus on my academics while also having fun. Events are always going on and people are friendlier than you'd imagine. This place is the best.

Ramapo College is a worthy, affordable alternative to many private schools in the area. The campus is visually very pretty, and the Ramapo Reservation is right across the street, offering excellent hiking trails with waterfalls, lakes, and vistas overlooking the campus and even glimpsing the distant New York City skyline. Because of its proximity to the reservation, there are also an abundant amount of animals (birds, deer, groundhogs, skunks, occaisionally even bears, and more!) that wander onto campus. While the woods are right across the street, New York City is less than an hour away, making it possible for students to accept jobs or internships in the city or near the city during times or on days when they aren't in class. The buildings and facilities are generally nice and up-to-date, with improvements and updates constantly being done on different buildings and computer labs. The nursing, science, and business buildings are in the best conditions, as they are the newest and have the latest technology and equipment. The academics are generally high-quality with few exceptions. For the most part, at least in my experience, classes will challenge you and teach you important skills and knowledge. Many of the professors are accessible and willing to work with you to help you be successful. In terms of career counseling, I feel Ramapo has some room for improvement. While the career advisors are helpful in checking your resume and offering tips on how to get hired, Ramapo lacks connections with many companies and lists many menial positions on the career site for which college degrees aren't even required.

  6. What's unique about your campus?

The enthusiasm found in the teachers is probably the best aspect of Ramapo. When looking at other colleges during open houses, the professors only seemed interested at the kids that came to them, but at Ramapo, they came to the prospective students to show them how great of a school Ramapo is. That is why I chose Ramapo, because I saw how interested the professors were in their students.

  7. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Although Ramapo College of New Jersey is a wonderful school, the worst thing about it is the limited opportunities to integrate with other students who attend the university. Last year I was a student at another school where there were many opportunities and events to participate in that brought everyone in the school together. Ramapo College may offer some events, but they are not advertised and students are not greatly encouraged to attend. Ramapo College could do a much better job at extending the invitation to events or creating new events for the students to participate in as a whole.

The type of student that should attend this school is a student who is capable of working hard, deals well with boredom and inactivity, and has no original thought. Professors here think out of the box very little. Students who can get on the good side of professors and provide only the answers they want to hear is also the type of student that should attend this school.

It is a very small school, allowing for attention from teachers and the ability to form relationships with others. It also has 4 credit courses that require 5 hours of out of class experience involving each class. This helps to force students to go outside the classroom. They also require internships. By the time we leave here we will all have actual experience and knowledge that you cannot get just from the classroom.

  15. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Choosing Ramapo College was one of the best choices that I have ever made (besides studying abroad). The school is big enough where you do not see the same people every day but small enough to have a really solid group of friends. In my opinion, Ramapo is a hidden gem. The campus is tucked away in the Ramapo Valley Mountains so it is really hidden from the rest of the world. But, we have NYC right at our fingertips. The academics are excellent, challenging, but really superb. It would be hard not to get involved at Ramapo because of the number of teams, organizations, frats, sororities, and clubs that we have. The professors here are top of the line. What is really great about them is that because we have such small class sizes, the professors are able to give you the individual attention that you need. I also want to mention that the residence halls are the nicest I have seen in my entire life. And that says a lot because when I was applying to schools, I visited over 15!!!! So, I have seen my fair share of college dorm rooms.

  16. What are the academics like at your school?

The academics at Ramapo are top of the line. This liberal arts college has an incredible amount of majors, minors, concentrations, and programs that you can study. The classes are small (max size is 30 students) and the teachers really get to know you. I find that the classes here are easy to get involved in because they are not straight lectures; all of my classes have been discussion based. Unlike larger universities, Ramapo does not offer lecture halls and all of your classes are interactive, fun, interesting, and contemporary. I love learning here because the level of intelligence of my peers and the knowledge of the professors here really contributes to a positive learning experience. I am a Spanish Major and I am also getting a certification to teach K-12. I also declared minors in Latin American Studies and International Business. I am part of so many different sections of the school and that really has diversified my learning. Professors have an open door policy and will work with you until you understand everything that they are teaching. I strongly believe that the academics here are incredible and really prepare students for the real world.

  17. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Fraternities and sororities are really cool organizations to get involved in. We have so many different ones that our students can get involved in. What is nice about Ramapo is that there really is a club or activity that EVERY student can get involved in whether it is athletic, social, academic, interest etc. Athletic events are exciting to go to especially volleyball and basketball. On the weekends we have a lot of parties, go out to clubs, attend on campus events, go to frat houses off campus, and enjoy the company of our peers. You do not have to drink to have a good time here. We have a lot of non alcohol events on campus and they are SO much fun! We also have NYC about 30 minutes away and that creates a whole other world of fun for our students.

  18. What are your classes like?

My classes are so much fun. I am a Spanish major and generally my classes have about 5 to 10 students. The classes are so exciting and interactive and really easy to get involved in. My teachers have made learning so much fun because they bring a lot of outside knowledge into the classroom and share experiences from when they worked in the field. I love taking classes here.

  19. Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Sports are a big enough part of our campus where a lot of people attend the games and even go crazy enough to paint their bodies and faces. Unfortunately, we do not have a football team but we certainly make up for that with other sports and events. It is fun to watch because the NJAC - our conference- is very competitive but the Ramapo Roadrunners always rule the courts!

  20. What are the most popular classes offered?

Psychology, Biology, Business and Nursing are some of our largest and most popular majors. Our Business school just received accreditation, which less than 4 percent of business schools world receive that honor. Our nursing program is top of the line but only seats 90 students max so you have to apply early and have excellent grades to get in. Many students enjoy taking astronomy classes, social issues, teacher ed courses and other classes with fieldwork included.
