Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Taylor

RPI's tagline is "Why not change the world?" This question can be asked in many different ways. RPI encourages students to ask it any way they want, and continues to encourage students to change the world. While so many students are content to graduate with a degree, RPI's students have a passion about their work, and they all want to change the world for the better. Most of RPI's students are not only passionate about their studies, but are highly involved in outside projects. Whether they are changing the globe or just campus, we change the world.

Arleen

3:1 guys to girl ratio makes things very interesting. RPI's culture is also nerdy which makes it a very unique place!

Kayla

RPI's Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies is unique and one of the world's most advanced research facilities. Research projects in this facility have made advances in bioprocessing, nanotechnology, microsystems, and more. Many may assume that because this facility is state of the art it is only available to professors and graduate students, however, RPI prides itself on having undergraduate research opportunities which i plan to take advantage of in the near future.

Alex

If you want a college sweetheart, don't come here. Only reason why I'm writing this. You may hear that Sage College is an all girls school, but they are all as stuck up as RPI girls, if not, more stuck up. If you can make it through RPI and still be somewhat happy, you're destined for great things. Bitches ain't nothing but hoes and tricks.

Nathan

My school is centered in Troy, NY, considered one of the capitals of independent media in the North Eastern United States. Many of my professors are still actively involved in their video fields locally, giving them important experience.

Kara

The students

Carmen

It is a highly esteemed engineering school (also one of the oldest engineering schools.)

Carlos

The available resources such as lab equipment.

Theresa

RPI is smaller than MIT and RIT but bigger and more well known than WPI. It was a good balance between a small community and large competitive playing field for me.

Divya

It is closer to home, smaller, and ranked higher.

Ben

Excellent labs and hands on projects. LITEC Blimp project in particular stood out when making my decision to go to RPI

David

It's more engineering focused. The campus is laid out so that there is less walking between classes. Professors are cooler, more student-like.

Michael

Rensselaer has a reputation for being top-notch, scientifically based, and no-nonsense, and that's that I found. The students here are all passionate about what they're learning (or at least what they'll do post-graduation), meaning there's about 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} less apathy than in high school. In addition, I'm no longer breezing through courses - intelligent professors with demanding course material challenge me to actually learn something new.

Erin

the variety of prorams and focus of certain areas

Jeffrey

RPI is very focused on engineering and if you want to pursue the broad field of engineering, business or electronic media, RPI is the right place for you. That said, RPI is making an effort to diversify and become well known for many other majors.

Roslyn

There's just so many different clubs and activities offered on campus for the size of the school, and the school of architecture is very strong.

Ben

It always you to work directly in your field of study and gives you an excellent oportunity for a job once you get out. It well prepares you for life outside of school and what the real world has to offer.

Matthew

Information Technology at Rensselaer is the best major across the country, and has helped me to gain a huge advantage in my career.

Ryan

RPI is a great place

Andrew

This school is very academically engaging and will prepare students for future careers.

Matt

Ian

The facilites and labs are top notch, there has been a lot of money poured into the campus for useful things. We've got everything we really need.

Cody

One thing that is unique about our school is we have the most engineering majors of any school in the USA

David

Strong emphasis on the majors and the school as a whole is not strung out like multiple displinary universities. The campus is compact and the student bonds seem to be better than at some other colleges.

Jesenia

There is always something to do on campus on your free time AND the majority of people are very comfortable with diversity. You can see the computer geeks forming study groups with the cool kids. The student body is very friendly and welcoming especially to newcoming students. They will try to help you adapt to the college life (both professionally and socially).

David

Winter is fun, and ski resorts are close enough to get to on the weekends for one day trips. The snow isnt as heavy as in the real upstate areas of NY. Fall is nice, and since I am from California, it is nice to see the seasons actually change. The student union is a great social place, and a nice place to study, I can always go there to see people, or to get my work done.

Kristin

Its a good school academically and you can have a lot of fun at the same time!!

Zac

A visit to Warren Lounge can truly be an otherworldly experience.

Vick

RPI, like any other college out there, has its problems. Only upperclassmen get the cool classes leaving us with nothing. some professors are bad. some are good. the work load is ridiculous, but if u survive companies will be dying to get a hold of u

Dylan

RPI is definitely not a "party school" but it is a drinking school. A lot of people get caught up in the "there's nothing to do on campus" so they end up doing the same thing every weekend - get drunk playing beer pong, get pizza, watch a movie. But RPI is more exciting than that, I promise

Mike

There really is a diverse group of people here as well as a challenging academic schedule. The social life is probably not as good as it could be, but it really depends on what you make out of it. You can definitely have a good time if you are willing to go out and have some fun.

Jason

Campus life Freshman year is a blast and generally it is within this phase that you will meet the majority of your long term friends at RPI. The Fraturnity and Soroity situation has a strong presence on and off campus. If its something you are into then there will definitally be plenty of opportunities for you, however if you choose to avoid those social situations you social life will be what you make it.

Pat

Great academics, OK social scene

Julian

Im prety sure RPI is ranked 13th in the Nation! in some college book or site whatever for: Most Unhappy Students in their school. enough said, you come to this school to set the tone for the rest of your life. oo yea hockey team is only D1 mens team and they think theyre the shit even though they have a horrible losing season every year. theyre basically all a bunch of assholes. hope you can get some info outa what i wrote, peace.

Rob

RPI is a good fit for me; I can't imagine myself going to school anywhere else.

Isaac

I can't remember what I was going to say here. Sorry.

Casey

RPI is for academics, other than that RPI is a shit hole, and expensive one at that.

Jacob

All thing s said rpi isnt that bad if you find your niche. You can have a great time on the weekends but i find that the week days leave you with nothing to do but chill with friends and play some type of activity. If you get involved then the weekend life is very good and you'll find yourself making some great memories. With that being said from my perspective if you dont drink or have no want to party then you may find yourself in your room with a couple friends playing video games all weekend. But if you are a party goer then you can definetly find a good time at rpi

Carl

I think its hard to get a good grasp for what this school is like. it looks really good fromt he outside but it might not be as it appears to you and might not be what you want. Still really good academics but the socials like and the guy/girl ratio is hard to get over.

Whitney

The bottom line is that this is a tech school. If technology and science don't interest you, don't come here!

Danielle

registration for classes is the most absurd and anxiety-producing process i have ever experienced... for the amount of money i am paying to go to this school, there is NO reason why i should be closed out of classes i need to take in order to graduate. in addition, i can understand why division 1 athletes are allowed to register first; they are here on scholarship and need to take certain classes at certain times. Division 3 athletes (every sport here besides hockey) should NOT be allowed to register first because 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of them are putting sports first, and why should they get to take away classes and screw up everyone else's schedule who is actually focusing 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} on their education?

Tony

If it wasn't for my house and my determination to get a great job I'd leave this school. I'll appreciate it in the future and it'll turn out for the best eventually.

Kelly

I think that the school is way to expensive it jump from 48,000 thousand to 52,000 thousand dollars. I know we are a new ivy but the price is horrible. We definitely need more minorities in the field of engineering and architecture. Especially in architecture there aren't that many of us to make me feel like we integrated in the 1960s.

Steve

In summary, RPI is not a fun place, but you'll get a good job when you graduate. Future outlook: They're actually doing a lot of good things to get a more diverse (and more female) student body here. They're putting in a massive new kickass state-of-the-art performing arts center on campus that's supposed to open October '08. Aside from the war on frats and drinking the place is actually looking up a little. I wouldn't come here for another 4 or 5 years though, it's gonna need some time to adjust.

Michael

Shirley needs to stop turning this place into a University. We're not a state-school, we're never going to have a division 1 football team or a first place ice hockey team. Academic factors such as faculty quality should be administered to insure for better overall quality of education in addition to spilling money into expanding athletic facilities and refacing older buildings.

Blake

Again, don't take classes from Audrey if you can avoid them. Don't play tennis for Carol. These were the worst 2 decisions I made at RPI. The best thing is that I met my fiance at RPI. He will make the money and I will hang out.

Terry

R.I.B.S.: Ratio Induced Bitch Syndrome. It effects some girls on campus. The number of cases have been decreasing as the ratio is leveling out. Get involved: Find a club you like--It vastly improves your experience here. It is EXTREMELY easy to get involved in undergraduate research--talk to a professor!

Reese

I've think I said almost everything I can think of!

Paul

Always keep on open mind when meeting a new person. Just because you didn't meet someone your freshman year doesn't mean you shouldn't be friends. I met some of my best friends senior year. If i cut myself off form that sort of thing I would have missed out. Don't try to make it like high school again. This is a new chapter in your life. Grow some and put it behind you. Learn what else there is out there. Soon you'll be having to start fresh in grad school or a new job. If you keep growing it won't be a huge shocking experience.
