I graduated in Spring 2023 and it is a wonderful school. It is a art and design school, with specialized art and design majors such as Computer Animation, Game Art, Film, etc and would inform any student joining Ringling to make sure it is the field and specialization you want. It is a great school and very expensive, thus make sure it is worth every penny for the student’s academic journey. I studied in the Animation major, and I discovered I wanted to specialize in Storyboarding for Animation, because that was what I was interested in. I enjoyed creating story concepts than animating characters in Maya. Many who were interested in 3D modeling, visual development have done the same. Because of the intensive pressure and workload, it showed me what I wanted to specialize in, my strengths and weakness, which any great college should do. My advice is try to find your specialization as early as possible. Overall, it is a fantastic school.

There a few stores nearby but some are pretty far. The dorms are a bit too small for three people. There are desks for each person and next to each desk is a ladder to climb up to your bed. The bed is close to the ceiling so it's not good for people who are claustrophobic and/or have anxiety issues. Faculty are very nice and try to help you to the best of their ability. The campus is really clean and everything is in well distance from one another. The classes weren't too big and the teachers are helpful and well informed. The food is pretty good and there is a variety. Overall, everything has been well so far.

Ringling is not the typical college experience that you would expect to receive - and that's a good thing. Being an arts college, there are higher standards for skills that the average state college/university might not emphasize the importance of such as: Professionalism, Punctuality, and Respect. Ringling wants to prepare students for the real world by placing us in positions to work with clients and encourage seeking internships by helping students connect with employers in their field of study in a safer environment than if we were to seek them on our own. At the moment, I've rated this school 4/5 stars because I've only recently completed my first year here, and students further in the program tell me it only gets better. The only aspect I am iffy about is the student housing situation. They did not have enough housing for everyone that needed it even though they just opened a new building. They also tore down three old dorms to build a new one - which means less housing for new students. Besides that, I am ecstatic for the opportunities we will have next semester for upcoming projects.

Ringing College is outstanding when it comes to Motion Design/Graphic Design majors. Each of my professors are currently in their field of specialty so not only am I learning from the best, but I have relationships already developing in the industry. The campus is beautiful and the surrounding area is a coastal community with the best beaches.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The right college is the one that is right for you. What is most important is that you go to class with an open mind and are willing to absorb as much information as you can. That is especially true in the arts, and it's especially true when you think you know something about the subject you are studying. The most important thing is to have fun doing what you do. It doesn't mean that everything will be nice and cheery; on the contrary, most of the times it will challenge you, and you will feel overwhelmed, but at the end of the day, those challenges will help you grow as a student and as a person.

  5. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I was so naive to think that I would potentially grow with the enthusiastic input and instruction from those I admied from afar. I convinced myself that the extremely high cost was worth paying for because it was Ringling. I was mistaken, the amount of money paid doesn't justify what is really going on over there. I found myself faced with opponents that were unbeatable. They have their favorites, nothing you do can interfere with that.

  9. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school is the amount of money it costs yearly. Living off-campus saves a lot. Even though it costs so much it's possible for anyone to go. I come from a very poor family with parents who haven't even graduated highschool and who have poor credit. If I can get the money to attend, anyone can.

  10. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

My school is of the most renowned art schools in the world. Location-wise, it is set in beautiful Sarasota, about 5-10 minutes from the beach, and the downtown area is a fantastic place for shopping and site-seeing. Education-wise, Ringling does wonders for my prospects. Disney hand-picks the majority of its employees from this school, as well as dozens of other major corporations and companies. It's a hotspot for job oppurtunities and career choices, and those who attend Ringling have the advantage over many other art school students.
