Rutgers University-New Brunswick Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Munir

The lack of natural beauty on campus...I like natural beauty. Also, the people act like theyre in high school with the cliques and groups.

Suhaila

Housing process is unacceptable. Not enough housing for students. Process makes little sense and is annoying to go through. Also, too expensive for what its worth.

Chukwuma

School is a well oiled machine and runs sometimes with out consideration of extrenous factors students might be facing out side of school

Nida

Because I majored in art, I felt that the location of Rutgers in NJ was probably not the best choice for me because I didn't know where to go after graduation since almost all art related jobs are located in new york city.

Raymond

The school has proven to be outrageously financially irresponsible. Period.

Mickey

The absolute worst thing about Rutgers is a horrid amalgamation of two facts: 1) Rutgers is NJ's state school and 2) NJ happens to be very, very small. As a result, RU is home to a massive commuter population, not to mention the fact that it is completely vapid during the weekends. Its not just a matter of students going home, but also away locally in the state to visit friends or family. This really has an effect, in turn, on social networking and maintaining relationships as a whole.

Rebekah

The worst thing about Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutger's University currently is the budget cuts which have effected course offerings. This is not the fault of the university itself, but it has caused some problems among the students who are not able to take certain courses that were previously offered.

Nicole

They limit bus transportation at different times during the year.

Regina

I dont think there really is a "worst thing" about my school. If I had to pick anything, it would probably be the casual relationships that occur so often. It is uncommon to find true love at my school.

Phillip

The worst thing about Rutgers would be its vastness. Usually this would not be a terrible problem, however Rutgers seems to have a bit of difficulty maintaining stats and information on their 30,000+ student database, as more than once have I had to deal with a very unfriendly clerk behind the desk of the registar at Rutgers, and on each occassion it is a complete hassle to fix anything that Rutgers has already messed up on your transcript. Aptly named the "RU screw", it seems that on more than one occassion this has happened, and not just to me.

Lauren

nothing

Kim

Some campuses are falling apart, with dated or aged classroom materials. The school board is too focused on football.

Julie

The overcrowdedness.

Blair

I hate the big lecture halls because I feel like I never learn as much as I would if I were in a small class. I love living in my sorority house, but the initial reason I chose to live here was because my lottery number was too low to receive decent on campus housing, due to the number of students in the lottery system. Also b/c of the large school size, I do not have my own personal academic advisor & sometimes its frusterating going to a different person each time who doesn't know you or your situation.

Wylie

drunk kids do damage to everything including cars, buildings, walls, each other, etc.

Sandra

The crowded bus system, everyone is trying to get on a bus, and there is no room for movement.

Marie

the food is not so healthy

Zachary

The work load consumes a lot of time so it's hard to work part time and support myself.

Sean

The worst thing is probably the financial aid system. Because of budget cuts and the lowering economy, plus the increasing size of the school, it is very hard to get financial aid or find other ways of making money.

Heidi

Though the student population is highly diverse, the different campuses make it difficult to interact with people of different ethnicities because, for example, a lot of science classes are taken by indians, chinese, etc, on busch campus, while a lot of white people take history, psychology, and journalism classes.

NIKKIA

Makia

The cutting of academic programs because it will discourage and hinder a lot of students and faculty.

Maria

It's so hard to sit down with an Academic Advisor and ask them to help you pick out classes or with anything else for that matter. I was never assigned a "guidance counselor", which made my transition difficult. It's also hard to transfer classes from another school into Rutgers because there is so much paperwork.

Joe

It can sometimes be very daunting balancing academic responsibilites with extracurricular activities.

Csilla

The busing to Busch and Livingston is pretty bad because you often don't get to sit down. I also wish there were more parking spots for commuters.

Brittni

Rutgers Police Department is very strict

Tommy

I feel that Rutgers University doesn't do a good job of promoting itself. Almost everyone I talk to who goes to high school in New Jersey has a very negative view on Rutgers. They think that it's not a very good school and that it is very low on the education quality scale. I certainly felt this way when I was applying to college, but I am grateful I'm here in the end. Rutgers needs to do a better job of promoting itself as a good university so that people have a better opinion of it.

Ali

The worst thing I can come up with is most definetly, class size. Lectures can have over 400 students, and smaller classes, close to a 100. I am someone who cant learn unless I ask a million questions and to be honest, office hours aren't enough, and I feel TA's are cheap imations of professors (sorry!). I guess it comes with the fact there are 30,000 students, but they get enough money to fix the situation. Professors are too inaccessible!

Gina

The worst thing is that it is too liberal for a conservative like me and the teachers have a tendecy to enforce their liberal views on their students and manipulate them to think like they do instead of forming their own opinions.

sarah

the classes are too large...

hunter

ability to find well paying job on campus...

Tiago

the focus on the football program. they get a blank check, scouts, new stadium while the rest of the students go to shabby classrooms in need of matetenice and students like me who need financial aid lose it!

Claire

Sometimes the teachers are hard to reach to on a personal level, but a majority of them try to get in touch with the students. The TAs are sometimes helpful- sometimes only cause more problems.

Lauren

Since there are so many students that attend my school it is very often that when I call or meet with someone in the financial department, academic department, etc. they have negative attitudes. While I know they deal with thousands of students day in and day out, I feel as though its their job to help students and not discourage us with their sour dispositions.

Kate

The corpratization.

Elizabeth

The worst thing about my school is the lack of financial aid for out of state students. Although I demonstrate a great need I recieve next to little financial aid. As a result I have taken out numerous loans to finance my education. I believe in state students are given priority over out of state and international students.

Woodline

The food. We need more varieties.
