Before coming to St. Cloud State University, I wish I had known about all the services and resources that were available to me as a student, especially as a first year student with no prior knowledge of campus functions. By simply knowing what services are offered and what resources are provided for me such as the Career Services Center and the Department of Student Services, I wouldn’t have spent most of my free time cooped up in my dorm when I could have spent it being productive and active and enjoying campus events and workshops.

DO SOMETHING! Besides meeting new people the most important thing is it just do something, even if you end up not liking it. Join an activity, or just go to one meeting but fish out what you find interesting it really makes the college experience that much better! Plus, you find people with similar interests!

Veronica

There really isn't too much I wish I would have known. I did a lot of research on this university before I committed to go. I wish I would have known how competitive the Nursing program is. I thought that the program pretty much accepted everyone who applied. However, I learned from personal experience it is a very competitive program and less than half get in that apply.

Casey

For me high school waas easy, almost too easy at times. Mainly because I did not challenge myself hard enough and took all the easy classes just to pass the class. I wish I would have known as to what exactly the college atmosphere is like. For example what is the typical workload that a student has, or what classes should I take that will prepare me for college. If I had sought more information from my high school counselor that would have helped me out a lot with the transitioning between high school and college.

Before attending St. Cloud, I wish I would have known how many scholarship opportunities there were and are for incoming freshmen. St. Cloud is more on the cheap side when it comes to cost, and it provides so many scholarship opportunities to help minimize your costs even more. Also, I wish I would have known more about the community. I am still learning and there is alot of ways in doing so, but I wish I would have known more about the community coming in, because that allows for a greater understanding on volunteer opportunities.

Emily

It is very cliquey. Hard to make friends because everyone that goes to school here went to high school together. I didn't go to high school around here so it is a lot harder for me to make friends without feeling like i'm "intruding" on groups.

Molly

Before going to Saint Cloud State University, I wish I would have known where to park my car. I parked my car in the lot that was farthest away. However, this allowed me to take full advantage of the busing system. I received multiple tickets from parking my car in different spots, that I wanted to avoid. Other than the parking, I think I have been having pretty good luck here at Saint Cloud State University.

Tiffany

What I wish I had known before attending Saint Cloud State is how much money it costs and that i would really regret putting off applying for scholarships in high school until I missed the deadlines knowing now that I would need the aid. I wish i would have known that finding a job to help me pay for college would be so difficult without previous work experince. I wish that i would have gotten a job and gotten experience before leaving home to go to school.

Christy

I wish I would have gone to this school sooner.

Mai

I wish I could of known how stressful it is. With money really tight and I got the maximum Finicial Aid and Loans but I still had to pay in for books and tution. This semester alone i bought books that almost reached two hundred dollars and i still have to pay four hundred for tution when I only have two hundred and fifty dollars. I can't go out and have fun since I'm ropped down with my money constrictions.

Kalina

I wish that I had a more clear understanding of what the pre-requisites were for the nursing program, so I could have finished them earlier.

Lilian

I wish i had known that there are good opportunities available on this campus for students struggling with finances to seek higher education, and be able to afford it. The most important thing is hardwork and the motivation to accomplish goals. I would tell prospective students to go for it because the rewards of higher education are a lifelong achievement that no one can ever take away once atttained. There's hope for people with a vision and anyone can make it if they are determined and take studies seriously here at St.cloud State University.

Christopher

I wish I would have known the feeling of being away from home and having to look out for myself everyday. The one other thing which would have been nice to know was how to use the schools website.

George

I would like to learn more about my major.

Vanessa

I feel as if I was actually one of the few that was mature enough to come to college. I had already lived away from home ( I studied abroad in Germany for a year as an exchange student and student ambassador after winning the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange scholarship). I also was aware the partying wasn't the most important thing. Also, that people need balance in school, sports, and their social life. The only thing I wish I had known before coming to school is that jobs are scarce, so everyone needs a back-up plan.

Eryka

For the most part, I did my research and I expected exactly what I got.

James

Before attending SCSU, I wish I would have known exactly how important it would have been to actually try and get scholarships for my education here. I wish I would have known how to better get a job. And I wish I would have known how much harder the coursework was, as opposed to high school classwork.

Daniel

how good the program actually was at this school

Mike

I wish I had a mentor to advise me on what classes to take and how to take them. It would have been nice to know some of the things I know now when I first started college and was registering for classes.

Kathryn

I wish I would have know to talk to the academic advisers before coming instead of student advisers. They sent me in the wrong direction right away.

Devan

I wish that I had known more about the scholarships and finacial aid options available to me. I feel that right now I am struggling to make it through payments for college.

Kalia

Before I came to this school I wish I would of knew that Saint Cloud was more accepting than anyt other school out there. Without the help of a friend I would'nt have even known that St. Cloud existed. I always wanted to aim for the schools that my sisters graduated because those were the only colleges I know. But after feeling accepted by Saint cloud I wish I would of had this school on my number one list.

Makenzie

I wish that the person who took my group on our tour would have discussed the free tutoring allowed on campus and where it is located. That is a very useful resource for students, and it was skimmed over in my tour.

Ruth

I am a transfer student, I was able to find everything I needed in Saint Cloud State. The only thing I was alittle disacouraged about is, the job oppourtunity. There is less chances of getting a job in Saint Cloud. The school provides work study but, work study is not applicable for International students. If I had know this, I would have made prior arrangements.

Susie

How bad the parking was.

Holly

I wish I had known more people that were involved in sports. I was very active in sports/activities in high school and would have liked to continue that in college.

Lucas

That the law enforment was going to crack down on underage drinking

Corey

I went to a community college and got my 2 year AA degree and transfered to SCSU. I wish I would have known that I would have to take additional classes at SCSU in order to declare my major as a Junior and that I will have to take some additional required courses to graduate. So it may take me 5 years instead of 4 years to get my BA degree.

Kelsey

How you have to plan your route to class through bulidings to keep warm in the winter. Also that the parking is terrible and expensive. I wish I had known that most students don't graduate in four years. Also that the only thing to do on campus during the weekends is to get drunk. It looks like a ghost town around here on the weekends.

Bradley

i wish i would have known more about the engineering program. Although i am satisfied, it has been a real learning experience in itself learning the program and requirements needed to graduate. Otherwise, i'm from the state and know the community, and have multiple friends from school who went here, so the transition went very smoothly. The only thing would to have been more well informed of what the engineering program was like.

Nelly

How to study and prepare for the courses properly.

Jehana

I wish I was more aware of the financial aid/scholarship opportunities available. I also wish I was more aware that on campus jobs are designed more for students who are work study than just the student population. I feel that as a transfer student I was not as informed as I could have been.

Mikael

The immensity of it. How many opportunities and major options that I did not know about. It caused me to spend almost a whole semester just wrestling down what department I should go for. It was huge and amazing. But it was also well designed to help someone find their way through it.

Justus

As a transfer student, attending a 4 year university from a community college can’t be the same experience. Sometimes I wish I asked more questions than I did like what the best major would be for a student that wants to attend medical school instead of just relying on other people’s advice; I also wish to know what job would be more lucrative.

Holly

Before coming to this school, I wish I would have known a bit more about the town itself. It was very easy to adapt to the campus structure but it still takes me quite some time to find my way around St. Cloud itself.

Carly

Before entering SCSU, I would have liked to have known what campus life was like. I would have loved to have met with some current students to hear their opinions about the school, and discussed any helpful tips they had about making life easier while in college. It would have been great to be able to sit in on a class to see what the professors were like, and to eat a meal in the cafeteria to know how the food tastes. I wish I could have learned more about the school than just the programs they offered.

Katherine

I wish I had known a little more about the school requirements, particularly for the honors courses. I wish I could have talked to someone about what types of courses would be required for my major, and what my transfer credits would count towards. I also really wish I had known how much cheaper it was to buy books online.

Carol

I wish I had known how the general education and major map progams work.

Joshua

I wasn't prepared for how much work it was. I kind of thought it would be like high school

Mary

I wish I would have known what classes were needed for my intended major. I relied too much on my advising staff during registration for my freshman year and was later told that those classes were not required or needed.

Jason

The pre reqs that were needed for my major
