What are the most popular student activities/groups?

sugly

I think it just depends what you are into.

Some of the more popular activities and groups on campus are, St. John's Senate. This is the universities form of student government. Some other activities that are very popular are intramural sports like basketball, volleyball, kickball, football, etc. At the university another popular thing is the rock wall, and the rock climbing club. There are many more options but there are just a few.

No matter what group you would look at, students are very active. If your not a part of something, then you arnt looking. So many things to do: hang out, play Johnball (very fun), play intramurals, go hiking, go fishing, go canoeing, go to a Johnnie Football game, go ice skating/fishing join a club, go on a retreat, study (hard), mess around, go on a chapel walk, go into the city (St. Joseph). Many people party on Friday and Saturday, but you dont have to drink to have a good time. Many people stay on campus for the whole week, but there are so many things to do, you will be distracted from any homesickness you (or I) might have/had.

School spirit is phenomenally large at this school. The student section is packed with red-clothed spectators every Johnnie football game, as well as many other varsity and junior varsity sporting events on and off both campuses. Students in the dorms leave their doors open as a way to promote a community atmosphere in the dorms and in the college overall. I met my closest friends within the first month and a half of school at a Catholic faith retreat for first-years, and they have remained so to the present. Intramural sports are immensely popular, and my volleyball team currently has a great shot at becoming intramural champions. Last weekend, I rehearsed with my student-formed and led band, and we will be performing on campus on Dec. 10th and one other time after Thanksgiving. I also played a new club sport, Johnball (CSBSJU is the first college to EVER have Johnball), with my friends, played in a brass choir concert, and had two frisbee/dinner/movie nights with some of my best friends. Student Mass on Sunday evenings is also a popular event, and I was a Eucharistic Minister this past weekend. I generally don't leave campus. I have never needed a car, and everything I need is right here on campus. I will need to travel 15 minutes to St. Cloud in two weekends to take the MTLE (a test for teacher candidates kind of like the ACT), but I have a ride coordinated with one of my friends who has a car here.

There are so many clubs here on campus that the colleges take one night in the beginning of the school year to promote them. It's called Involvement; this is where all the clubs and organizations come together, set up booths, talk about their club, and encourage people to attend their future meetings. The best thing I like to say when it comes to activities on campus: What happens at CSB/SJU stays at CSB/SJU. There's always something going on: everything from karaoke, to a student panel talking about a subject in the world, to dances, to performing arts events, to movie showings, to bingo and so much more. However, if you just feel like hanging out with friends, no matter what time it is, it will happen. Have a movie night in your room, go out to a dining facility as a get-together, celebrate someone's birthday, or have a study session on Sunday.

In terms of sports, the most popular sport is the Johnnie football team, but all sports get quite a bit of attention, both male and female. Clubs based on cultures are also very big for students from out of the country or for those who are simply interested in learning more about a certain culture. I am part of Amnesty International which is the human rights activists group on campus. Through this group I managed to go to Ft. Benning, GA to protest the School of Americas. The dating scene is rather prevalent on campus but it is not an issue that is forced up on students either. On weekends, it is almost guaranteed that there is a dance or concert of some sort which gives students plenty of options for things to do on the weekend.
