Saint Louis University Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Robert

Generally people in this school don't have a good self-esteem about the school. The people who are into it are really into it, but there are a few haters who seem to have outweighed my experiences with content and proud classmates. I think students in St. Louis as a whole don't have the best perspective on how to best experience all their oyster has to offer.

Ryan

It is prohibitively expensive and the financial aid department offers no help whatsoever. I am about to have to quit school after two years due to the fact that I cannot get any more loans to pay for tuition. I am completely screwed now. I will have to work overtime just to pay back loans for one half of a degree.

Megan

I believe that one of the most frustrating things about my school is the registration process. We have to go meet with an academic adivsor and a mentor, and most of the time they are not on the same page so you don't know what classes to take. Not only that, but the actually registration is frustrating because the system will usually freeze up.

ALEXANDRIA

I guess that my dorm is the farthest out from the area I have most of my classes. I do get lots of exercise !

Olivia

The art program is extremely small and is often overshadowed by bigger programs, like engineering or pre-medicine. I never felt that anyone had the same devotion to studying art like I did.

Kathryn

It is hard to get in touch with financial services and school administration regarding housing and class schedules.

Eleanor

There is somewhat of a disconnect between the students and the administration. The administration is attempting to close this gap but it is still prevelant. This creates difficulty in the students' voices being heard and changes being made that the students would like to see.

Catherine

Since this is an online program, it is sometimes difficult to work with the faculty over email. Responses are delayed and you don't get the face-to-face interaction.

Aida

Parking can be a downside at this school. The student parking lots are far, and inconvnient during the winter time, when the trek is long. Also, when you're walking on the sidewalks leading to school, the sprinklers will turn on, and they'll actually come at you, getting you wet. About the classes, Biology can be frustrating. Already I feel overwhelmed with just this one class. It would be nice if the teachers taught at a slower pace, or realised that we have more than one class to juggle, but this is probably just the college life.

Danielle

I am a commuter and probably one of the most frustrating things is that most of the events on campus are in the evening. It puts me in a tough situation on attending these events becasue I am finished with classes by noon.

Casey

Campus Security is pretty tight. Though this is a good thing, it is frustrating when you have to swipe your Student ID to get into any building, you have to check all guests into the front desk and if you don't live in a particular building, a friend has to sign you in if it's past 7 pm.

Meaghan

Most of the people are extremely conservative, and unwilling to listen to alternative views.

Parag

The classes and work loads sometimes gets to be too overwhelming. I also get the feeling that some of the school's funding is used in areas where it shouldn't be. Since I do go to a Jesuit university, the school is working to better the surrounding area and so a lot of funding is used for gardening and other ways to make the city look better.

Kelsey

Having a social life is difficult sometimes. There are only parties in apartments and you need to know people having the party to get in to it. However, they are a lot of frat praties. The party though are off-campus. There never seems to be must entertainment on campus.

Elena

I'm sure students at other schools experience this but at SLU it is very easy to become discouraged by the amount of hoops you have to jump through to get things done. I changed my major 2 semesters ago and it still shows up on my transcript and my student account. I was also unable to register for classes or meet with an advisor in my new major because I was still listed as a student in the old major despite filling out the paperwork three times. It's frustrating to feel unimportant in the eyes of the school.

James

The school's online website is very unorganized and it's difficult to locate specific information.

Elizabeth

The most frusterating thing about my school that I have personally come across, is recieving the run around from the registrar, financial aid, and the guidance department when I was in my first year of school. Other times that can be stressful and frusterating are registering for classes and picking housing for the up coming year.

Nick

Nothing is really frustrating

Michael

Doesn't seem to hand out much in the way of financial aid.

Karalynn

The different scale that nursing students are on versus the rest of the school.

Katelyn

The constant 6{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} increase in tuition. We are paying close to 17,000 a semester. School is becoming unaffordable. Also, the food service is horrible. We use a company called Chartwells and their workers are rude, lazy, and underpaid. You wait in line for a half n hour for cold food. Most of them are on their cell phones 24/7 and glare at you when you say your order. It seems as though we are disturbing them from their conversation. I HATE CHARTWELLS!!! Most of the student body does too and our meal plans rip you off greatly.

Sarah

Administation is very top-down oriented. Res Life programs are not as finacially affordable as they should be.

Katherine

Every year they up the tuition costs and don't change the scholarship costs, which is unfair.
