Saint Mary's is best known for how successful it is in sports, yet we have so little studnets, we have a about 4,000 students, yet we are a D1 school. We were ranked for rugby 1 in teh nation, our soccer team is not bad and in basketball we tend to do really good. We are ranked like 4 in the nation for buisness as well, so buisness is something we are known for.

Saint Mary's is well known for its liberal arts aspect. One main focus is our seminar courses. These courses are not offered at every school so we are well known for them. Also, our varsity sports are devision one and extremely talented. Last but not least we are a Lasallian school and the school has a heavy focus on social justice. Community service opportunities are also availble. Another thing we offer is January Term. During January students are able to take a course in something that is outside of their major, this includes traveling.

Saint Mary's College of California is best known for their English, Business, and Nursing majors. All the majors are extremely competitive, as well as, and outstanding and challenging curriculum. I am currently in the nursing program and I will have to admit that the work load in this major is extremely difficult to balance with my social life. However, the professors in this program are wonderful and they always encourage their students to continue fulfilling their passions and dreams. The program makes sure students are on the right track to a nursing major and it is very helpful.

Saint Mary's College of California is best known for its excellent basketball teams, which have ranked in the Associated Press and ESPN top 25 for the past 2 seasons. Both the men's and women's teams compete in the West Coast Conference, and Gael Force, a crowd of hundreds of students wearing bright red shirts, is always there to cheer them on. Gael Force is an easy club to join, and it gets free tickets to the games, which is always a plus.

We are quite well known for our NCAA Division 1 Boys Basketball Team and Womens Volleyball Team, however most notably we are known for our commitment to our students and fostering the relationship between them and fauculty members. We also have many courses specific to SMC. Our seminar class is a class where students read the writings of ancient-modern thinkers (Aristotle, Machiavelli, St Augustine, MLK Jr., etc) then lead their own discussion based on their readings. We also have January Term, when you take just one class focused on fun subjects for the entire month of January.

I would say that my school is known for three major things which help to show how diverse St. Mary's truly is. The first thing is a liberal arts education which helps each studentsto develope their own thoughts and views on the world around them. The second aspect would be the percentage of students which find jobs or are accepted to grad schools directly following college. The last thing would have to be that St. Mary's believes greatly in giving back to the community. Our goal is to make the world a better place to live in.

First: Basketball. Everyone knows Saint Mary's as the team that does really well once in a while, but fizzles out in the finals. Second: The social life. Everyone expects the typical blonde haired girls with fake tans to be really drunk and sleep with everyone. Third: How expensive it is and how hard it is to work with the business office, the registrar, and residence life.

We had an amazing football team back in the day that rivaled Cal, now we have an amazing basketball team that has quite a few Australlian players on it. Academically I would say the Business department and Math and Science department are both highly recongized and usually turn out quality students who do well in thier fields of study.
