Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I chose to go to Saint Mary's particularly because of the small class size and student-to-faculty ratio. My largest class last semester had less than thirty students, which enabled me to seek one-on-one help from professors. As my school proudly advertises: "Here, professors will know your name," and they do. Additionally, the location of this school is stunning, as it lies nestled between the lush hills of the Bay Area, yet it is only about twenty miles from San Francisco - any college student's dream.

I've always been a small school kind of girl. So when choosing between the schools that I applied to, I looked at the community aspect. St. Mary's is a small campus, allowing me to know everyone in my class, which some people may not like it, but I do. With a small community come smaller class sizes; this allows for me to get that extra help that I need. Just the other day, for my Jan term class, I went to my professor's house for lunch. At what other school can you do that?

Laura

My school is better because the campus is beautiful and the teachers are excellent and willing to help all the time.

This school's calendar in't quarter or semester based. Instead it has a two semester like terms and then a Jan term where students take one class, 2(+) hours a day, 4 days a week, for the month of January. This is a chance for students to take a class outside of their major. The classes offered during jan term are unique and may have theme. An example of a jan term class is "Art in the Bay Area", where students go to different museums and art galleries in the city and write reflections on what they've seen.

It's a lasallian, catholic, liberal arts school. SMC also has the jan term! Before I attened SMC I didn't know what this meant, but while I was there it was something that I valued very much. The Lasallian appoarch taught me about social justice and gave me the passion to volunteer and to serve others. Liberal arts is also important because it gives you a well balanced education also the seminar program is excellent! You learn how to communicate effectively and be open to different point of view. Catholic =spiritual development.

One thing that is unique about Saint Mary's College is the class size. Usually there is only about fifteen to twenty students in a class. This is a great learning environment because we get more one-on-one time with the professors if we need to ask questions. It also lets the professors get to know the students better.

What's unique about St. Mary's College is their outstanding educational reputation. My first year of college, 1988, I attended Linfield College, McMinville OR. After that I wasn't the same again since attending that private school. This college to beat as far as private schools are concerned however, I definatlely think both of these schools provide irreplacable memories that will be long remembered for an entire lifetime.

The size of your school and the amount of attention that professors and staff give you. They make you feel right at home and make you feel more like a family than just a face in a large school. They also present us with many opportunties and events that larger schools cannot because of the size.

Cristina

It is a tight-knit community but also very friendly to others. I can walk to class and be able to say "Hi" to atleast five people and one past professor.
