San Diego State University Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Shannon

Registration for classes is single-handedly the worst thing State forces its students to endure. Classes are full within a few days and priority is not distributed fairly which leads to extended graduation dates and more money spent on tuition.

Tiyana

I think the most frustrating aspect is trying to get the classes you need. I basically had priority registration this semester, and I still didn't get one of the classes I was hoping for. This makes me worried about getting my classes when I'm a junior because they don't have priority.

Samantha

There are many: frat life is disgusting and overwhelmingly prominent, there are few bastions of art, the area of the city is quite boring and suffocated if you do not have a car.

Blanca

The most frustrating thing about my school are the long lines at the food court during lunch hours.

Marissa

Unfortunately, San Diego State has the label of a "party school." This becomes frustrating for students, like myself, who came to SDSU because of their outstanding acadmeic program for my major because now have employers automatically associate San Diego State as a party school rather than a school that focuses on academic achievements. Although SDSU has an award-winning academic program, it is often overlooked due to the inaccurate assumption that San Diego State is only a party school.

Breanna

I don't know.

Matthew

The most frustrating thing about the school is once again how impacted it is. But besides that being an African American at the university I have to deal with the blatant lack of diversity at the university and in some cases what seem like a bit of acute racism.

Jana

The most frustrating thing about school was working with the administration office. As a teenager/young adult I didn't always know what questions to ask the administers or counselors. I always felt misinformed or confussed with the direction of my education.

Heather

The most frustrating thing about my school is the parking situation. There are no parking structures that are directly linked to campus. It is not only difficult to find parking, but no matter where you park, you always have a long walk to class.

brittney

It is far from home making trips to visit my family for the holidays expensive. It is frustrating that money is holding me back from visiting my family and having friends and close relatives visit me on campus.

Andrew

Personall, there is nothing frustrating about San Diego State University. I love the diversity of the people who attend, as this school receives applications from all over the nation as well as other countries. I love the atmosphere of the school, which is always so friendyly and social. The campus is amazing overall. The classes are interesting, as well are the professors. Everything is just delightful.

Vanessa

The tuition and fees are very high, and with budget cuts makes it very difficult to afford school.

Kyle

The fact that our registration is so close to the first week of classes

Jennifer

The drive. I live 60 miles away.

Elise

The most frustrating thing about San Diego State is the food on campus. Now, don't get me wrong, it can be delicious, but if you someone who likes to eat healthy sometimes, there aren't too many options. We have Rubio's, Daphne's, Panda Express, Pizza, Taco Bell, and Starbucks. We do have one salad place, but other than that, it can be difficult to stay on the healthy side

Richard

The most frusterating thing at San Diego State is dealing with the counseling. I feel like when I seek help they are inexperienced and never point me in the right direction. I expect to go in there, have them initiate conversation and tell me how I am doing. I don't feel like I have great guidance available to me on my campus.

Anna

The only frustrating thing about San Diego State's campus is that there seems to never be enough seats or tables at the library to study. The libraries tend to be overcrowded once final week rolls in, and it is frustrating having to search for an empty seat amongst the sea of frantic students.

Ravi

The fact that all parties thrown are done by frats and they won't let any other guys in other than other brothers.

Tessarose

The most frustrating thing about school is the methodology of some of the teacher. More often than not teachers are just spewing out information without trying to make sure the students are comprehending what is being taught. No one wants to go to a class where all the teacher does is lecture in a monotone voice everything thats already in the book.

LAURA

It is frustrating that the tuition went up considerably the first semester I attended. SDSU is not offering the classes I would like to take this semester as well.

Ardith

The most frustrating thing about my school is the strict rules they put on the students staying in the dorms. While it's nice to meet friends, it feels like a prision instead of a fun experience. It feels like they are just waiting for you to mess up so they can kick you out , and if you get suspended or expelled they get to keep the whole years payment.

Stephanie

Our school was affected by the budget cut, and the fact that our school has more students then there are classes, it significantly affected the ability to get the classes you need for the semester. This has extremely affected when students are graduating from school. It is very frustrating knowing that your graduation date has been pushed back because there are not enough classes for you to take to graduate on time.

Daniela

SDSU has an amazing gym but not a lot of options to eat healthy :(

Alfredo

The most frustrating aspect of my school is registering for classes. There are many students at our school and classes tend to be filled very quickly.

Michael

That there are so many students, but not enough classes being offered for the number of students. So to fix this, the school is lowering how many students are admitted rather then hire more teachers.

Christina

The large size. There is a huge amount of students attending and the buildings can be very far away from each other. It can be frusterating trying to get to class on time in this situation.

Angela

It could stand to be a little more diverse. As well as a little less party oriented.

Alexandra

the most frustrating thing about my school is the furlogh days. Since SDSU lost funding, the classes have gotten larger and the teacher complain more about their pay cuts and how it is unfair to us.

Kelly

The most challenging part of attending San Diego State University is that it is such a large school, it may seem difficult meeting people and finding your place in such a large univerisity. At times, it may seem overwhelming when you walk around campus and it seems like there are always new people that you have never seen before. From personal experience, I have felt wondering what my place was in a school such as this, and in a swarm of people it may seem as though you are unable to define yourself.

Antonio

The most frustrating thing about my school is the budget cuts. It is so hard to enroll in the classes you want. I wanted to register for 18 credits but the school said no I can only register for 17 and if I wanted to take more I would have to crash those courses. Also nothing seems to get done because of budget cuts, 60 dorm rooms flood everytime there is a little bit of rain and they won't repair it even when we keep complaining.

Jing

Some popular classes have up to 200 students, so it's hard for the professors to concentrate on them individually.

Candi

There doesn't seem to be as much emphasis on academics. It is definitely more of a party school.

Danielle

Trying to find loyal friends.

Ryan

The most frustrating thing about my school is how impacted our classes are and how we are paying more money for less schooling. Classes are overcrowded and trying to get into your required classes is a major problem. Also, they continue to raise tuition fees, while cutting the workload of faculty, which affects how much students are being taught.

Saman

I am a 21 years of age have muscular dystrophy and wheelchair is my ride around the campus. There int much frustring me more than the campus is crowded and its hard to get into the classes on time. But for normal people there isnt much frustration.

Jessica

The most frustrating thing about school having a load of work to do from all different classes in such little time. It is also hard to make out a scheduele that I want because it usually is scattered throughout the week. Out of all frustrating things I believe that tuition is very stressful to come up with the money because it keeps getting higher and higher. Sooner or later I feel like I wont be attending SDSU anymore due to the amount of tuition that is needed.

Gabriella

The professors.

Randy

Every school has its flaws. Perhaps one of the most frustrating aspects of my school is shared by all schools. It seems that teachers get together and come to a common agreement that they will bombard their students with work and tests all at the same time. Perhaps it seems this way because the way the school schedule is constructed... midterms and exams usually at the same time.

Cassandra

Again, lack of parking.

Danny

They require far too many classes that have nothing to do with your degree, and all classes require almost no effort to get an A in.

Ana

The first thing that comes to mind is PARKING. The school sells more parking passes than there are spaces, the first month of classes is a nightmare. After the first month lots of students drop classes and parking gets a little better. It never is pleasant, but after the first month it's not that bad. The school shops actually sell a bumper sticker that says "Please tell my professor I'm going to be late because I can't find parking". But that's the only thing, San Diego State University is a wonderful school and I recommend it.

Shauna

How much greek life rules the school.

Arlene

The most frustrating thing about the school would have to be the long lines during lunch/at the cafeteria/east commons/

Amy

Trying to find parking during the first two weeks of class, because the school hires parking attendants/ local law enforcement to direct traffic around the campus and into the parking structures. They will often tell you that a parking lot is full when in fact it is not. They cause much more delay than when we do not have people directing traffic around the parking lot areas of campus.

Devin

The traffic to get to school and the major influence that the Greek system has on the universities student body.

Pamela

There are a lot of high in demand classes, so a lot of the time, there's not enough space, and one can't enroll in a class they need.

Katharine

The lack of academic advising and not getting the classes you need.

Joey

The PARKING!

Jeff

Professors' expectations.

Sarah

If you get into trouble the people who work at the Center of Rights and Responsiblities never believe that you are telling the truth just because of your age.
