Santa Barbara City College is the place to be if you're choosing to attend a two-year university before transferring. Not only is campus minutes away from the beach, but the school is huge with a huge variety of students from all over the world. It's the only community college with a total university feel. The class sizes are great, food is amazing, and the views are out of this world. I feel so blessed to attend such an amazing school at such a low cost.

I grew-up in Santa Rosa, California. My high school years were terrible. I encountered a ton of adversity. When I graduated high school I knew that I wanted a change. I wanted to go somewhere away from Santa Rosa that promoted personal growth and healing. I thought Santa Barbara City College would be a great fit. It has definitely lived up to my expectations. It is hard to get past one's difficulties and it has been a tough journey, however the support at SBCC has been phenomenal. For the most part, the teachers want students to succeed and are always willing to help. There are great on-site tutoring services and the school has great support for students that are trying to overcome all sorts of obstacles. Also, the Santa Barbara environment is really friendly and relaxing. The weather is great. The picturesque setting is amazing. My only criticism of SBCC and the Santa Barbara area is the cost of living. It is really expensive, however if you need a place to heal and grow-up, it is definitely worth it.

The truth of the matter is I still cannot fathom how my city college got bumped down to second in the country this year, as it will always be number one in my heart. Now I'm slightly biased, (okay not slightly, entirely) due to the fact I have never attended nor shadowed another college. But that said I've been comparing notes to all of my other friend's college experiences, and Santa Barbara City College always comes out on top. I mean what other universities do the majority of the professors make the conscience effort to learn each and every student's name? Where else can you find professors that not only make their lectures hilarious and engaging but invite class discussion? Santa Barbara City College is more than a school; it's a community built upon the foundation of learning and unity. Not only do I feel heard on campus, I feel seen. The professors acknowledge hard work while the counselors work hard to ensure our individual success. The school is a haven, a refuge from the normally crippling cost of university, ultimately an affordable place of fiery intellectual debate.

I love this school so much! I am so glad I decided to come here. The environment is so perfect, very beachy, everyone is really nice. The teachers really want you to succeed and transfer to the university you want to go to. It is the number one community college of the nation so it means there are some good things about it. There are plenty of counselors that will help you build your path and point you in the right direction. It is a great school.

SBCC Is a great city college with lots of course choices and the TAG program for those who want to transfer to one of the UC associated with it. You can't beat the campus environment with beautiful views of the ocean and easy access to the beach for some rest and relaxation or a quiet place to study.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I really love Santa Barbara City College. I came from an academically rigorous high school in San Francisco and was not sure what to expect in terms of the attitudes of other students. I have found many people who care about what they are learning, take school seriously and are active members of the community. I have found my teachers to be interesting and helpful and feel I am getting a University level education at a city college price! I also feel very prepared to transfer to a California University because of all of my teachers and counselors support. There are also many ways to get involved with other students on campus, like clubs, honors societies, art galleries and free events. I have made some really intelligent and fun friends from really far away places! Overall I think it is an amazing school, where you can get a great education and have a fun college experience, all while living by the beach in sunny California.
