Santa Monica College Top Questions

It's really overcrowded. It's difficult to get into classes and finding parking is an absolute nightmare. It's especially hard for international students, like me, who are not used to going to public schools with so many other students.

The classes tend to fill up first and it is really hard to get classes when you're in your second year. The Freshmen (first year) get priority enrollment but then it tends to get quite hard.

There really isn't anything I don't like about my school, but if I had to pick one thing it would have to be parking. Parking at SMC is terrible, there is only one parking lot and between the hours of 7am to 6pm it is always full.

During my 2 years at Santa Monica Community College the social atmosphere was weak. But I also think that it is because SMC is a community college, where people just go to school and go home after. There are no dorms at SMC so you only get to know your classemates on a superficial level.

Unfortunately, the majority of federal and state finances are directed into institutions other than education. The students suffer especially in community schools as professors are forced to take days off and class sizes become full at sizes less than capacity. The inability to take the courses planned is, I believe, the worst thing about my school.

The worst thing about my school is the fact that there is not enough classes and to many students. This causes many problems like not having enough parking spaces, and over-filled classes. When there is not enough parking spaces, it causes students to have to drive to school much earlier so that they would get a parking space. Over-filled classes make it very hard to learn in a peaceful enviroment, and belated completion of units

The worst thing about my school is the lack of school spirit. Although thier are many people who love the school and do not deny attending, many other students feel ashamed of attending a community college. This could true for most community colleges but more for Santa Monica because its in the hollywood scene and alot of students somehow feel going to a university out of high school should be the norm. At the college, I have met many people but only through academic activities. Rarely do you see the majority of the student body getting together and socializing.

The worst thing about my school is the school parking. The parking at campus is the reason why I have to leave my house 3 Hours before my class starts. Parking is definitely the problem.
