Savannah College of Art and Design Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Donald

The worst thing about SCAD may be the mentally of students to stay up late to finish projects and sometimes procrastinate. This is especially deadly at finals or midterms. There is a running joke that people say. It is that SCAD stands for "Sleep Comes After Death". Last year I fell into this trap. However this current year I get much better sleep and produce higher quality work. This is an example that someone doesn't need to stay up till 2am every night to finish a project.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is a fantastic school with a lot of assets and resources. However, the cost of attendance is ridiculous for the average student.

The drug use. Acodring to most people the drug and alcohol use is higher than an average school, because it helps to "create". It doesnt bother that badly but I would like if m roommate(s) didnt come home drunk or high all the time.

Alexis

The worst thing I consider about my school is the price it cost to attend such a beautiful and magnificent place. With being there for almost one year, I will have to transfer in the fall to attend another school that is affordable.

Raven

The worst things about my school is really the cost. It's incredibly expensive and can really be daunting if you don't have financial aid or enough of it. That's really it. Just the cost alone.

Amanda

Tuition rates are unbelievable!

Emily

The amount of money I have to pay to attend this school is extremely high I've worked the same job every break I get from school for the past two years and will have to use all of the money I've made to pay for one term. The school has also decided to recently raise tutition. My parents are on their hands and knees trying to help me get through school without going into debt.

Lisa

The organization of the bus schedules on certain days, they plan school days and invite potential students and theif families on midterm and finals weeks, and shut down the whole bus system just for the use of the visitors. I also don't like the segregation of the Savannah campus. Because every department is at a different building, there's little to no interaction between all the different majors. It's elitist and infuriating.

Matthew

While the campus is a beautiful place that is rich in history, charm, and indictative of the artistic environment it was created for, it is not a campus. The buildings and dorms are spread out through the downtown area in Savannah. There is great transportation and ease of getting around; however, a enclosed campus would foster a more cohesive environment and a clearer view of all that is truly available.

Zachary

After awhile, the town of Savannah becomes quite small....

Heather

I belive that the worst thing about the Savannah College of Art and Design is the school bookstore hours. There are some days when one realizes that they need to get some art supplies, but the bookstore is closed as early as 4:30 p.m. Thus, one has to either borrow supplies or go to a store that is not as convenient to get to.

Elainey

Nothing, my school is great and active, keeps you busy and motivated!

Stephanie

The worst thing about my school is that the bus system takes some getting used to. The busses are usually on time but occationally traffic or another force prevents them from picking up students on time.

Deborah

The worst thing about Ferris State University is the remoteness of the campus. Big Rapids is a very small town and if you are used to a larger city atmosphere, FSU would not be a preferred campus setting for you. This may not be the worst thing for all students, but could be the worst for students from a community with great diversity and multiple events to chose for entertainment.

Brittany

The bus system isn't very reliable. Most of the time, the buses are late/early to stops, aren't in service, or just don't stop at your stop. Sometimes the buses are on time, but this doesn't happen very often.

Audrey

The worst thing about my school would have to be the lack of curriculum for some areas of study. For instance, we have a Fine arts program yet we lack curriculum in the Theater and Drama programs by having only 2 or 3 classes for those areas of study.

Sarah

I would have to say that the worst thing was the run around that the school administation forces you to go though if you have any problems. For example, when there was a problem with one of my grades it took me nearly month to correct it. In the end I had act as a go-between so that the administrator and the professor could correct the problem.

Allison

The workload at SCAD is tough but well worth the award if you are willing to try your hardest to suceed. That is especially true for incoming students who aren't prepared to take all the work SCAD requires and just think they are in for an easy ride because they are attending an art school. SCAD has a tough workload and they expect you to be the best you can be.

Jade

I really can not think of anything bad to say about the school. Yes the school is expensive but I understand thats only because the level of education that the students are getting. I love the school and everything the school stands for.

Latasha

The security and the on-campus food because security does not come in a reasonable time to emergencies. The on-campus food has not real taste and is mostly canned. No real nutritional value to the on-campus food.

Rebecca

I love SCAD and so it is hard for me to find anything that I hate about it. I would say the thing I dislike most is the cost of tuition. I am going to school full time and working almost full time to cover costs, this makes it hard to participate in any of the extra-curricular activities and lectures.

Turkesia

Not enough teachers in my department.

Christine

The offical side of SCAD is really sucky. They drain the money out of you.

Katie

The worst thing about my school is probably the meal plan food.

Catherine

There is nothing wrong with my school because it is filled with lots of good people and creative minds.

Giana

The worst thing about my school would be the cost. It is an extrememly expensive school, which at times it can be difficult to come up with adequate finances to cover the cost because of the economy, but what I will say is, for the tuition, the education is well worth it. I have an 85{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} chance of recieving a job offer BEFORE I graduate, which to me is definately worth the investment.

Rachel

The worst thing about SCAD is that sometimes the student services are lacking, which is to say that sometimes it is hard to get help from the administrative department. Personally, I haven't particularly had any difficulty, but I have friends who have had difficulty with things like the housing department (not being assigned housing even though they signed up and paid on time) and such.

Danica

The worst thing about SCAD in my opinion is the financial aid department. The people who work there are unquailifed and unfocused and ultimately unhelpful. They try to tell you that you are wrong and try to make you feel stupid to make up for the fact that they do not know what they are talking about. I have never had a good experience with the financial aid department.

Anthony

I felt that I never knew what the next step of progression after I was admitted. And never really recieved good communication about when or what the status was of my financial aid. I still, after a semester, do not know when to pay for my next semester or how to pay for my summer quarter.

Marshall

Mainly three things: 1. A number of the dormitories (such as Boundary and Barnard) are not owned by the school - they are privately owned by members of the board and that money does not get recirculated back into the school. These facilities also cost more and this fact is hidden. 2. The bussing system, at present, is attrocious. Most students walk to their classes or drive. 3. If you're concerned about healthy eating, I recommend buying organic. The cafeteria uses foods with preservatives, as well as a lot of pork products. Their pizza is also pretty bad.

Dean

The cost. I do not live on-campus, I rent a condo from my family in a nearby burg of Atlanta, but even without the exorbitant housing costs SCAD asks of its boarding students, the school, though prestigious and industry-revered, is prohibitively expensive. I've had to borrow every penny not covered by scholarship, and now it's looking like it won't be enough. I love this school and what it has to offer me, but it does no good for me if I can't afford to attend.

Ryan

The worse thing about SCAD is the crime-rate in Savannah. Students are often assaulted by disgruntled locals, and some cases have turned out to be extremely violent. Off-campus housing is often broken into, especially when students leave for the long winter break. On-campus living, however, is always well secured, with only minor incidents occuring from intruders on campus.

Miranda

The worst thing about my school is that it is too far from home! Although it attracts a considerable amount of international students, there is a strong sense of regional pride.

Emily

I am not very satisfied with some of the recent expansion efforts made by SCAD. I think they should focus primarily on their Savannah campus instead of trying to open new schools in other areas. I think all this expansion focuses too much on quantity and not enough on quality.

Hillary

I can't honestly say that there is a "worst " thing about my school itself. SCAD is really a wonderful place to go to school. a large amount of the area surrounding the campus however, is a very dangerous part of the Savannah. It is said that Savannah has the highest crime and murder rate in Georgia, and that entire statistic comes from the predominately black, project housing that exists around the campus. Savannah has 3 distinct sides that are very intermixed: Black Poverty and Prominent Wealthy Whites, and A Heck Of Alot Of Tourists.

Ana

Costly

Rachel

It is academically demanding.

Matthew

The worst thing about SCAD is that its persistant re-evaluation of itself, and continuous efforts to improve, sometimes leaves students in the dark immediately after the change i.e. new outsource contracts, new academic building mid year.

Matt

Lack of planning for working students. Class scheduling is convienient for those student who do not have to work to pay tuition, but working students often find themselves sacrificing a class they need in order to make rent.

Joanna

the college is aimed at wealthy students and does not have time for those who come from middle to low income families.

hana

the environment, but it's personal. I dont really like living in a small town,it's too slow.

sarah

School seems primarily concerned with expansion as opposed to improving quality of current facilities and equipment.

Brian

To say the "worst" comes off a little vague for me. Every school has it's problems from time to time, but any problem that I have encountered has been circumstancial and in no way reflects on the schools normal operating procedures, generally speaking of course. I have some of the greatest minds in my field mentoring me, so it's difficult for me to complain.

Laura

Sometimes, the shuttle system can be a pain to work with. Also, the food is not very good quality.

Damien

The Quarter System and the School's Business attitude. With the quarter system, it's too short and i feel rushed. I also don't get a chance to retain the information. Most of what i learn is lost over the summer break. The school's business attitude makes them ignorant of people's financial problems...what happened to teaching based on kindness rather than money? Another thing, is the way dorm packages are handled. Its cheaper to live off campus, however you lose out on scholarship money (30{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}), which doesn't matter based on how over-priced it is.

Stephen

Tuition

Ivette

The curriculum for my career is pretty messed up requisite wise. I have to stay an extra year just because I couldn't complete a class in time

Stephanie

Too costly

Justin

At SCAD there are sports teams, but not like you would expect at a typical college or University. Sometimes I wish that I were attending a larger University with a more easily recognized athletic program, to get that full college experience of team spirit, going to the football or basketball games, etc.
