Savannah College of Art and Design Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Rachel

There is very little school pride here. No one goes to Athletic events or events planned by the school; it's kind of like high school where only a few of "those kids" go. Although the student body is on the small to medium side the campus is so spread out across Savannah (class rooms and other SCAD buildings can be miles away) that you never really see people outside your residence hall. That being said, the residence halls are not set up in away that makes it easy to meet people. Since the dorms are old hotels the doors lead to outside, Savannah is a shady town, even though there's barbed wire around the buildings there are place in the fence where hobos have cut holes. Savannah is not a college town at all. Anywhere that's open past midnight is 21 and up, and most places in Savannah close around 7. Students usually hang out in peoples rooms (in their groups of 3), or they go out to eat (at least Savannah has excellent restaurants, bc the meal plan is horrible)

SCAD does not listen to the voice of its students at all. In fact, I heard a rumor, from many different people, that SCAD's students once TRIED to organize a student council, and everyone who was involved was expelled or fired. 99% of the employees, either know nothing about the school, or are trained to tell nothing about the school. The Paula Wallice is an idiot. The entire basketball program was recently shut down, and 2 million dollars spent on a horse stable, just because her niece likes horse riding. Also, every major "change" that takes place at the school, is for the worse. Example: The school KEEPS cutting more and more corners, like shorter and shorter hours for the buildings.

SCAD has athletics. That helps to break up the many hours spent on class projects and my own personal work that I sell on the side.
