What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

John

If I could go back in time and give myself helpful advise I would tell myself to stay out of trouble. If I would of stayed out of trouble I would be currently attending college right now. I would of had money saved up so I could afford to move to the town my college is in. I would say I need to get a better job as soon as possibly and work as much as I could. I would tell myself to save more money and I would tell me to apply for as many scholorships as possibly.

Dustin

I am happy with the way I transitioned into the college life and would want to transition the same way. I dont feel as if I need to tell myself anything to make my experience any different.

Simone

Simone, you are about to fly to the other side of the country to attend school, the most important thing for you to do is RESEARCH FINANCIAL AID. There is an out-of-state tuition waiver that the Registrar and Financial Aid office will not inform you of during the application process, you will have to hunt down an Assistant Registrar for information on this waiver to avoid borrowing 25,000 from a private lender. Also, the people are great but opportunity is scarce, you will have to arrange every internship and part-time job you undertake, solo as well as keep your research skills sharp. Do, attend the conferences professors ask you to, and keep up the 4.0. Furthermore, invest in a car as there are no nearby grocery stores or banks, the Savannah sun can roast you in late August when school starts and making the 2 mile walk to Target in 95degrees is enough to drive anyone crazy. Last thing, the gym is supposedly open 12 hrs/day, but the coaches rarely show, so get used to the track and buy some mase so you can jog safely in the surroundign areas! Have fun!

Josh

If i could go back in time and talk to my former self, i would tell myself to get up study, study, study.. I would say things like, "Hey, quit being lazy, a 3.2 is not good enough!) i play football so i wuld say to work hard because i did not know what i was gtting my self into when i signed up to play colleg football. The last thing i would tell myself is to pply for more scholarships and quit depending on loans.

Sharneice

Listen to the advice that i was given while in high school

College is what you make it. Maximum every opportunity presented to you. Learn to network with individuals that know more about your interest. Please ask questions if you are unsure about anything. Sacifice some parties to be productive in classes. Start on assignments soon as you are aware of them. Work on assignments a little at a time, so that when the deadline is approaching the final proofreading stage will be easier. Learn to try, at least you put forth an effort. Stay grounded through goals, family, positive friends and a higher being.

zsaquera

Stay focus, study hard

Perri

Perri... This is you time to do better for yourself and not be like you father and not finish high school and not even think of college. You have the chance now at age 17 to take your SAT's and your ACT's about three or four times to learn as much as you can and plan to work as hard as you can. Plan to visit as many colleges to learn about the schools advantages and weaknesses. You have to put yourself out there and let the colleges know that you?re ready to learn and get out into the world as an adult. Make sure that you push yourself because once you?re in college your under the control of your own mind; if you don?t put effort to study the grades will suffer. Allow you to have time to rest and gain peace from the long stressful days of school and working. Please be loyal to yourself and love yourself first as you grown. You?re strong enough to handle this and put you self to be you need to be in life never under estimate your ability to do good and overcome your weaknesses.

Sharee

I would advise myself to take the ACT's seriously. I would tell myself to save my money I received for graduation. You need to start searching for a college as soon as possible. Filling out the FAFSA early is helpful because it is based on a first come first serve basis. Apply for college a couple of months before graduation because then you have an idea of where to start. There are a lot of organization available at college campuses and you should think about some that you would like to join. Shopping and buying things that you want is not a good idea. You should save your money and only buy things you need. Put yourself on a budget and learn how to tell yourself no. Make wise decisions and stay focused so you can become successful.

Charlotte

The advice I would give myself is, to always remain focus. Since the reason I am here is to better my future and futher my education of higher learning. Also that networking is everything when you reach college. The more networking you do the better. By networking you open up many doors to your future and your mind. You gain many insights in life and in other people lives. Because you alone do not live in this world, you live in it with many others. So by net working you expand your mind in many ways possible that a book never can. And utimately i would tell myself, no one can push you to better yourself but you, and one person can change the world one step at a time. And that person is you!

College is a wonderful experience and everyone should atleast attempt to go . Finding the right college may be hard but it is very important and can have an enormous affect on a person. While searching for a college look at the graduation rate, average grade point average at the school, crime and organizations on campus. Being involved with various clubs on campus will allow a person to meet new people and experience new things. Education is the main priority in college but friendships and maturing as a person is also part of it. If the college is the type of environment that will allow he or she to blossom and enjoy every aspect at one time; that is the college most fit for he or she.

christelle

choosing the right college for oneself is really important. most of the student who apply to the school now, they choose it from it being popular or their friends are going there. but instead students should know who they are and what they want out of college. reseach and visit the campus, sometimes one person's opinion on the school may not be enough. look at what kind of person you are and what you want to become, then when you find that out, seach the school that is the closest to you. ask and observe if the school will promise you a better and brighter future.

Kendra

Michael

Become active in organizations that tailor your interest, find a college/university that offers the major/concentration of your choice and that also fits into your budget.

Deniscia

Parents should know their children habits and social life and listen to their wants and needs before deciding on a college. Students should also have an idea about what they want to do after graduation, some future plans and not just go to school just because they think it is the right path for them because it might not be. Research the school and the area and talk to some alumi who have recently visited the school. Of course take a trip the city of the college and visit campus, walk around, talk to administration and professors and if there isn't any around, that could be a sign of the faculty's availiablity. Talk to students and most importantly, eat in the cafeteria; you have to kow what they are feeding the students and the choices they have to offer.

Jovona

Please start your college search a year to a year and a half in adavance.... maintain a 3.0 or higher in high school and look for all possible scholarships. To find the right college for your child is to find out what the childs interest is and what they like to do. If the child is independent, allow the child to experience college away from home, it will allow the child to make wise and conscience decisions. If your a teen trying to find the right college for you, search for colleges that spark a interest or something that you see fitting for you. Picking the right college for you is very beneficial and fun. How to pick the right college for you is to pick what career is most fitting for you then choose a college that has the best programs for that career and visit the school. Not only do you pick the school because of the career and the academic scores, pick the school that has activities, programs, and any extra-curricular activities that interest you and in the long run you will be pleased with your decisions.

THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE TO A PARENT OR STUDENT WHEN SELECTING A COLLEGE IS TO DECIDE WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL AND BE SPECIFIC. PRAY ABOUT IT AND ASK GOD TO SHOW YOU WHAT DIRECTION TO TAKE IN LIFE. THAN PURSUE YOUR GOALS THAT YOU ARE DESIRING TO FIND IN A UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE. STAY DETERMINED AND DON'T GIVE UP BECAUSE SUCCESS IS NOT EASY WHEN YOU DON'T GIVE IT A FAIR CHANCE.

magenta

There are a couple of things that I would say to parents and/or students about finding the right college and making the most of the college experience. The main piece of advice that I would tell parents and/or students is that there college choice should be based on a few key factors: importance of academics, teacher to student ratio, location of campus, institution's mission statements, types of majors and degree programs, and school diversity. I named these specific factors because I believe they are the most important when choosing the type of college/university a person attends.

WHEN I WAS A FRESHMAN, I REMEMBER THE MORALS AND VALUES MY MOTHER INSTILL IN ME. I CARRY THOSE SAME ATTRIBUTES TODAY. NOT CHANGING FOR ANYONE OR LETTING MY PEERS HAVE THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON ME WAS A MAJOR IMPACT FOR MY SUCCESS. I AM A LEADER AND I TOOK COMTROL OVER MY DESTINY. SOME OF MY FRIENDS PRESSURED ME MORE THAN OFTEN, BUT I STOOD STRONG AND NOW THEY LOOK AT ME WISHING THEY SHOULD HAVE SAY NO TO GOING TO CLUBS, PARTIES, AND SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AS I DID. I KNEW WHY I WAS IN SCHOOL AND I MADE SURE THAT WAS FIRST. AFTER LEARNING TO BALANCE THE THINGS I WANTED TO DO: CHEERLEADER, SOCIAL GROUPS, AND SCHOOL CLUBS, MY SCHOOL YEARS MOVED FAST AND THERE WAS ONLY MEMERIES OF THAT GREAT EXPERIENCE. I WANT TO INCLUDE THAT I HAD A SEMESTER WHEN I WANTED TO GIVE UP AND LEAVE SCHOOL, BUT MY MOTHER WAS THERE EVERY DAY ON THE PHONE ENCOURAGING ME, MOTIVATING ME, AND LIFTING MY SPIRITS THROUGH THOSE TRYING DEFINITELY HARD TIMES. OWE AND THANK MY MOTHER. STUDENT WHEN ENTERING COLLEGE HAVE GOALS SET, AND DONT LET ANYTHING STOP YOU. PARENTS BE SUPPORTIVE, ENCOURAGING AND LOVING.

Shalannah

Do your best and stay optimistic. Your experience is what you make of it!

As much more experience as parents have in life, the college education experience is unique to every individual. It would be best that parents simply support their children in this process. Telling kids what college to go to is not helpful because parents will not physically be there to ensure the students educational success. However, any advice that parents can give regarding their college experience is going to aid in choosing the right college for your child. Talking to kids before they go to college about serious issues such as attending class daily, studying, the opposite sex, volunteering, drugs and alchohol can be extremely advantageous to the childs positive social and acedemic standing.

ashlee

Before choosing a college, students should think about what they want out of life along with their expectations. You should not choose a college that you feel will not give you a challenge. The point of college is learning new things and learning yourself in general. Make sure the professors really care about your success. Always visit the colleges that you have in mind. Tour the college and learn the campus. If you can, don't just go during campus visitation day because they can make things 'perfect' for that day in order to draw your attention. Try to go on a regular day also. Talk to students who are already in that college and get information because faculty may make the picture brighter. Parents, what your child doesn't ask about the school, go behind and get your own information, because young minds may only be focused on the social part of college.

Nicholas

Make sure that the school's programs of study are your child choice, and the cost isn't too much.

It's all up to you on what decision you what to make as far as a school goes because you have to live with that for the next four yrs.

Caprice

The advice that I want to give is to go ahead and start looking at schools as early as your junior year of high school. It's never too early to look. Try to seek what you actually want out of college and know that this is what you want so pursue it. You may have more than one option as a choice for school so take the opportunity and personally view the campus. There you can meet and get advise from students on the campus about the school. Whatever your choice may be know that aside from the highly addictive social life that your enrolled to school to develop your life plan. From here on your life begins to take its course to becoming successful but, its up to you to make it happen that way.

THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS ALIKE IS THAT REGARDLESS OF THE SITUATION, GENERALLY THE STUDENT KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR FUTURE AND THE PARENTS SHOULD TRUST THAT THEIR CHILD WILL MAK E THE BEST CHOICE ON THEIR OWN.

Eric

Find the most information about the college/ university that you can find. After you have researched the school go visit to see what the campus is like. While you are there ask the students that you see walking around questions about the school that you might want to know.

Brittany

If you are a student and/or parent, finding the right college takes time. Make sure you apply and visit as many colleges as you can, because you do not want your choices to be limited. Do not make your decision on a college for someone else; ex: girlfriend/boyfriend, bestfriend, etc. Remember to take your time and make the right decision.

Demetrius

Apply, Apply, Apply! If the school isn't accredited by Sacs, don't attend. Otherwise, transfering is always an option after core classes.

Shaletha

My advice to a student looking for the right college is to be considerate of himself. Do not worry about where someone else is going. Worry about himself because no one is going to go to school for him. Also, location and expenses are another issue relating to college. If driving is going to be an issue, find somewhere close to home. Do not try to attend a school if they do not provide financial aid. Be considerate of himself because he can get a good affordable education at any school. His college experience should be focused on school work and being apart of the college community. Nothing should prohibit this student from learning.

Douglas

Make sure you go to a school that donot deactivate you if you fail one class and fasfa put you on academic probation.

Phillip

I would definetly tell prospective students to carefully do their research when it coes to picking and choosing the school thats right for you. I would also go on to say that when your in school become involved on camous because college life is definetly what you make of it!!! the most important thing i believe about school is to pick and choose your friends carefully, because the reputation of your friends will become you reputaiton as well, beacaus it is very important on campus to keep and mantain a clean and positive reputation.

Sidney

Finding the right college requires research of the universities or colleges that are interesting to you. However, you must research your personal interest with conviction to be sure that you know what you want because that will dictate where you want to go to college. In order to make the most of the college experience, you must be satisfied with your college selection. If not, you must transfer. Other techniques invovle becoming active on campus and surrounding yourself with like minded people who are going in at least one direction you are.

Shatique

When looking for the "right" school brochures dont cut it. Please visit multiple campus before making a final decision. There are so many schools across the nation. Please do not limit yourself because are scared to leave home. Go see, learn, and experience new and wondrous things. You are encourage to go and Study Abroad. The world is full of surprises. Let them consume you and open you up to different views and cultures. The world is only as big as you think it is!
