Its open. You have the freedom to discover yourself and new areas that you never imagined; and you will not be punished for it, you will be pushed to do it. You will be inspired to go after what you want, believing that is the best for all afterall. Trusting yourself and your art work is the most important thing they teach and it stays with you after you graduate. It is what you need to keep on goin with what you love.

It is not like any other school I have heard of. There are no real "grades," it is an entirely a pass/fail school... which can be both good and bad. It is very community based, meaning once you are in the school you are also very involved in the city of Chicago, which is fun for someone who is new to the city. All of the instructors are practicing artists, as well. So if you are having trouble they are all very approachable and willing to help.

The School of the Art Institute is catered to individuals. Most schools require GRE scores for Master's level study, however SAIC gets to know the individual and doesn't limit you on scores. They want to not only make sure you are a right fit for the school, and artist community within the school, they also want to make sure that SAIC is the right fit for you.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is extremely helpful when it comes to seeing what you are truly capable of as an artist. Everyone around you, both classmates and professors are willing to help you achieve what you personally are looking for in your work. The amount of self expression that goes on in and around the campus is inspiring itself. The work load demands a lot from the students spare time but in the end it will be worth it.. Also, since this school is in the heart of Chicago, the opportunities are so wide spread.

Our school is extremely liberal and open to all sorts of creative ideas and abilities. Proffesprs are well trained academically and artistically to know and understand each individuals work and thinking process. Because our school is pass/no pass, there is an air of open expression for people to explore themselves and the growth of their work.

The best thing about SAIC is the freedom for the student to take charge of their education. One of the ways they do this is that there are no grades, which really leaves your college experience up to you. What you put in will determine what you get. SAIC encourages cross and inter-disicplinary approaches which also gives you a lot of freedom to take classes and create an experience that matters most to you. New ideas are openly encouraged and teachers engage students in a dialouge about how the class is going individual rather than

We are really progressive in terms of conceptual art making and its a rigorous program that is self motivated. Those who do not have self motivation will not make it through the school. Its a difficult school to get through becuase it demands excellence from its students, it also provides a work class education in the visual arts.

Anne-Marie

it encourages, or even forces upon the student, the creation of concept-driven art that is well-researched either within your self and/or through external sources. the fact that you are not required to choose a major makes it extremely interdisciplinary, meaning it offers more opportunities to explore than any other school. it has one of the only sound departments in the country; independent of sound related to film, it is purely experimental. it also has a neon lab and a holography studio, robotics, and hardware hacking, as examples of classes that are not the traditional-type fine art.

jared

extremely inter-disciplanary, you can study painting, sculpture, video, and writing simultaneously if you wanted

Joshua
