Scripps can be an alienating institution; the students are very elitist. People throw around buzz words without really thinking for themselves and regurgitate lectures to appear to be more intelligent. It becomes smothering. The campus is not very diverse, but people believe that they are expected to be. This leads to students taking classes about diversity and believing themselves to be experts in areas with which they are actually unfamiliar with.
When first arriving it is hard to adjust, but that is probably the same anywhere else.
