Its a good school but it can get very chaotic. Instructors are doing very well with virtual school. Students are great and are usually very open to helping. Staff can talk awhile to respond to emails (1-2 weeks), might be due to covid but it can get frustrating.

I have only been at SCC for a quarter but I really love it. The location couldn't be any better. It is located on Broadway which is in the best neighborhood in Seattle. Everything is within walking distance (food, clothing stores, etc). The neighborhood itself is very diverse and accepting so naturally the campus is the same way. The diversity and open mindedness of the school is definitely my favorite thing about SCC. All of my teachers have been amazing. I hadn't been in school since I dropped out of HS and I let all my teachers know that; they were all extremely supportive and very willing to help me. I learned so much about myself and grew so much as a person because of my English 101 teacher, Dr. Faucette. For the first time in my school career I found myself genuinely excited to go to class every day. I spent a lot of time in the library; most of it in the "silent section" . I can't really explain it but there is such a sense of community at SCC. I never felt like anyone was judging me or disrespecting me. Everyone has been so willing to help me when I've needed it.

I think that Seattle Central College has a wide variety of programs, especially STEM, and extracurricular, like video game tournaments or talent shows. I was that kid who sat in the back and tried not to participate in in-class discussions as much as possible, but going to this college and being with a huge diversity of people who was willing to invite me to study with them after class. I have attended this school since a high school junior, as a running start student and this college was a great way for me to experience the college life while focusing on my academics. There are some teachers that I feel like they didn't teach the material well, and those who relied too much on powerpoint or worksheets expecting students to do the assignment without really showing examples on how to solve them in class which forces students to have to find time outside of class to get help. Luckily this school has a tutoring center and there are many students (since the class size is small) who are willing to help you.

Its a good school to go to. Great professors. I love that the professors actually care for their students and some offer to do review sessions outside of class. The fact that the teachers are helpful is what motivates me going to class everyday. I never miss a class because I feel that they really care.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

There are a few things that I would tell myseld as a high school senior. I would tell myself to take school seriously. When I was in high school, I was all about having fun and hanging out with friends. I did not put as much thought into my work as I know I should have. Now that I'm in college I wish that I had focused and retained all that I learned back in high school. Taking those extra steps in high school like reading that extra book, looking up those extra words your didn't understand, staying home that night you had to finish homework, makes a difference for your future. You have your whole life to have fun and hang out with friends.

  3. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before i came to Seattle Central, i wish had been exposed to the practice of patience. I attended Wilberforce University in Xenia, Ohio before Seattle Central during my time there I would often make rash decisions never thinking about the consequences when it comes to my future. I made rash decisions regarding my academic future because I was young and truly didnot know what i wanted to do in the first place and secondly I was fully of myself and the talents I possess and believed I could adapt anywhere. Central has taught me to think more carefully and strategize.

I wish someone told me that financial aid does not end with the fafsa! There are so many steps after that, that still keep the financial aid deadline 'clock' ticking. And if you're not careful you could end up paying more out of pocket than you would hope.

  13. What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school is the instructors in the dental hygiene program. They work us hard and have high expectations for us because they want us to be successful. All of the instructors in the program that I know are nice, caring, and helpful. At the same time they are hard and have a zero tolerance policy which is great to me because as a student we need leaders that we respect and know how high our expectations are for them to succeed.

  14. Why did you decide to go to this school?

Mostly to save money to get into university of Washington or Washington state. This is a great option if you plan on going to grad school afterwards. Way less debt. I have friends who are in their second year and are already in 8,000 to 10,000 dollars in debt while I still don't need any loans. If you are looking to save money this is a great option.

I brag to my friends that I spend half the amount on my education than they do at a four-year school, and the rigor of study is just as demanding. I also tell how easy it is to get to the camprus using public transportation, and the fun activities and shops around it. The real difference is the personal relationships you develop between you and the instructors, they really care about the class and how you are doing.
