My oldest son was born in October of my senior year, so my situation was a bit different than most. I had intended to attend college after graduation and was taking college prep courses, but after becoming pregnant it was difficult to see how to make that work. I now know that financial aid would have been easier to come by, and I could have gotten assistance with childcare as well. I would encourage myself to continue with my college plans, although slightly altered, instead of putting it off. It would have been easier in many ways, and would have improved our family circumstances greatly. College is challenging at any time, but the rewards are worth it. I am excited to finally be getting my college education, but I am saddened that I have not been able to provide a better life for my family prior to now.
It's really difficult to find financial aid for vocational school, and it doesn't cover the cost of attendance. SMS is more costly than many other vocational/technical schools, but the amount of financial aid you are eligible for is based on the type of school not the actual cost.
This school is difficult to attend if you don't have additional financial support from family or a significant other. The last two years require working with a preceptor and being on call the majority of the time. Working a job in addition to this is nearly impossible unless you have something that is incredibly flexible.
