When I first stepped onto Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania's campus, I was hoping that I would meet my "people" and everyone would be an intellectual, and they were nothing like that. I experienced microaggressions as an ambitious black woman, I was told to "lower my standards" when it came to what I wanted in life (career, morals, dating). People were still stuck in high school, and there were cliques. Unfortunately, there were bullies that I needed to "check" because we were adults. I realized very quickly that I had to make the most of my time in college, and I was on my own when it came to finding my own internships and lining up a job once I got out of school. There were a few individuals that made my undergrad career worthwhile, and I will never forget them. But I wished I had the courage to transfer to a school I truly loved when I had the chance.

I love the people, the environment and the education! I am excited to start my education there in the fall. From what I have come across thus far, the professors are super nice, the food is great, and the opportunities are endless! I am extremely excited to pursue my education here.

As a student at Shippensburg University, I can say it has been a very supportive and easy semester. My most favorite part about being a student at Ship is the help of staff and professors. The campus is averagely sized and there are just over 6,000 undergraduate students and it is easy to get a hold of the professors, they are extremely interactive with the students. My least favorite part about being at Shippensburg University is the tension the students. However, there are organizations such as the Multicultural Organization and Women and Gender Organizations that help minority and LBGTQ students with their personal lives and presence on campus.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Shippensburg University. Some found it to be too small, but I enjoyed seeing people I knew on campus regularly. I felt a sense of community because everything was in a smaller area. The professors were caring and the class sizes were reasonable. I was a member of the club rugby team, and the university supported us as we competed and won two national championships. They helped fund us even though we were not recognized as an official school sport. I loved my four years at Shippensburg and would go back in a heartbeat!

  12. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

I cannot pay for college and my parents and grandparents cannot help me. I hate looking around my campus at all the "renovations" they are making to relatively new buildings. I get really frustrated when I know people cannot afford to pay for college so the institution should do more to help their students and less to remodel buildings.

    Not really anything

  14. Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Yes. Police are always having to stop parties. Kids arrested for underage drinking and drugs. Noise complaints and crime complaints there are horrible. Shippensburg is like a mini-slum. No one does enough down there to get in under control. The college is awful; they hurt students in favor of professors, student academic and freedom of speech rights are not protected at the university. Of course half the students there are drunks and druggies anyway, but the good ones, including the good teachers get booted. Alot of evil and poor admin is allowed to remain.

Drunks, party-goers with no self-control. College has a bad rap for failing to protect student speech codes. Professors are awful, dont care about their students.
