Transferred here my sophomore year & during the height of COVID. Overall, a great school with intelligent, caring, reasonable professors in the neuroscience and psychology departments. There are always your select few professors (cough cough chemistry & bio) that suck, but you'll unfortunately find that everywhere. Classes were usually not too easy, but not too hard: reasonable. Gave me fantastic financial aid and were very accommodating when my father passed away. Always felt comfortable, welcome, and safe on campus. Saratoga Springs is a great little city with a hundred million restaurants and cutesy shops. If you like sports, they've got them, but no really pays attention. Art scene is big, but doesn't dominate like some people make it out to be. I stayed in my science bubble. Not huge partiers, hard to get people to stick around (they're more into smoking and chilling out). Sometimes got frustrated with the amount of subtle wealth (aka people obsessed with thrifting, yet drive a Porsche) and lack of street smarts/ability to take care of one's self ("wait... I have to check my email everyday?" "how do I clean a toilet?"). Despite this, mostly everyone is super chill, nice, and humble. Overall, I think most people would be happy here, especially people who want a laid back college experience or are more comfortable in a small, rural, northeastern environment.

Skidmore College will set you on the path for success. Students and professors build meaningful relationships that aid you in the classroom. Opportunities are abundant in whatever you choose to pursue. From dance majors to bio majors, you can do it all. Saratoga Springs in second to none as a college town. The school continues to impress me with its commitment to progress. Each time I return to campus there is a new project unfolding. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Thoroughbred and would recommend it to anyone!

Skidmore is a great university, but a very specific type of person attends Skidmore. There is a lot of passion on campus, but getting involved can be tough if you are passionate about many different things. Skidmore's accommodations are lacking but makes up for in academics.

Paul

It is a great place to study and advance your professional opportunity. Great opportunities for funding for conferences or if you want to pursue an unpaid summer internship. Not so great for social activity, unless you enjoy superficial relationships with friends.

  4. What are the academics like at your school?

I am a Women's Studies/Business double major, which gives me a unique perspective. As a business major, I am exposed to talented professionals, who have chosen to incorporate teaching into their careers. As a women's studies major, I am exposed to multi-faceted scholars and activists. Professors know my name, and I feel comfortable saying "Hi" to them outside of the classroom. Class participation is not only common, it is often incorporated into the final grade. Unfortunately, I am not the most vocal member of most of my classes, but I enjoy visiting my professors during their office hours to discuss questions and my interest in the subject area.

  5. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Skidmore is an academically strong liberal arts college with a strong amount of interest in the arts (music, studio art, theatre, english, etc.). Many students chose to double major in an art and a "practical" major such as a Chemistry and Music major, or a Business and Studio Art major. Skidmore puts an appropriate emphasis on interdisciplinary study, which allows the students to creatively approach a problem or situation by utilizing resources from every department.

  20. Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Because we are division III, we have no scholarships for athletes, rather every athlete is a scholar with a focus on academics. As a school we do not have a football or a track team, though our riding team is one of the top in the country. Basketball games are immensely fun, we were actually voted on ESPN for having one of the best games of 2011 due to a basketball game that went into 7 overtimes which Skidmore won. Athletes are just regular students here, it is not as though there is a scene that glorifies them. That being said, sports are respected here just not as the end-all-be-all of the school.

  21. What's the Greek scene like?

There isn't one! Students unite around other commonalities (and differences)! The social life instead revolves around clubs, performance groups, and even classes. Lack of Greek life was a big draw for me when I applied to Skidmore. I think that because of it Skidmore is a much more inclusive and open community.
