What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The advice I would give to parents of students is find a college you are comfortable with. If you are not comfortable you will never be happy there. You don't have to go to a college just because it is a well known school or has good sports. Go where you are happy. Being happy at your school makes the next 4 or 5 years of your life way more interesting and way more bearable. As far as making the most of your college experience just have fun. Don't have to much fun to where your grades are not up to par, but make friends. When you go to a new class, talk to the person next to you. Talking to people can help through hard times whether they are your best friend or a total stranger. Just let yourself enjoy the next 4 or 5 years because after that you are on your own.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school would be scheduling classes. If you are not able to schedule your classes on the first or second day of scheduling, you are not going to get a good schedule at all. Classes fill up way to fast. Southeastern is growing faster than they can handle.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Anyone can attend this school really. You do not have to be a certain kind of person to go here. No, Southeastern is not as big as LSU so it may not be as cool to go here but Southeastern can give you just as good as an education as LSU if not better. The type of person who should go here is someone who is looking for a good education.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Think about how a potential employer would see the college on your resume. To me, community colleges are just a quick fix, just to get a degree and get out in the workforce, but universities focus on making the students well-rounded individuals. An employer doesn't always want a warm body, they want a person, preferably with a personality and dreams and ambitions of their own. Go to a college that will reflect those dreams and ambitions and then, nothing on your resume will speak louder to that employer.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

college is WAY tougher than high school. those who have never cracked a book in their life, will have to!

What kind of person should not attend this school?

someone who doesn't come to class, someone who doesn't study

Describe the students at your school.

My classmates are very friendly and somewhat polite, most are talkative and some just leave me alone. Majority of them seem to be interested in the school while others seem to just be there because they think its what they should be doing after high school and never really care about their education. The students are also diversed in the ethnic background of the student body, there is no discrimination on each other and no one judges another or at least not out loud. There are very interesting characters around campus that show their individuality.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Best known for our business and nursing undergraduate degree. We also have an excellent varsity tennis and baseball program for our athletes. The school is also known for being the only campus in the state that supplies its students with a rental text book center so they would not have to buy their own books unless otherwise stated by the professor. The campus is also one of the condensed and somewhat small compared to the other colleges and universities, which makes it easy to walk to your different classes without having to drive across campus or have a lengthy walk.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Make sure that you know what your child is most interested in, then look at all available schools within your pricerange that you know you can afford to send them to with a degree that they would most likely take. Also dont send your child to a school they dont want to go, by doing so you will cause them to not want to take up the education being supplied to them so let them choose. Their college experience will be easy for them, just give them their freedom in college and allow them to think on their own and make their own mistakes, the child should make the right one if they are serious about their education and stick to the routine and have fun during their time away at college.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Work hard and finish school. Take time out for fun but don't let it get in the way of your studies.

What kind of person should attend this school?

People who want a smaller university than going to LSU. Southeastern has smaller classes & I believe easier to learn than on a big campus.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The drive from Baton Rouge can get old.
