Southern Virginia University is a Latter-Day Saint campus that uplifts students, encourages unity, teaches honesty, and values hard work. Every student feels included and cared for by classmates, teachers, and faculty. The spirit felt here inspires every visitor to become a Southern Virginia Knight!
Southern Virginia University is a great school with an amazingly high vision. One of the many things that stands out to me , as a student here, is the atmosphere. It is and amazing place to get a great education. The students as well as the faculty have high sights on the great potential that they can achieve.
I love that Southern Virginia University is a tight-knit, family-like community. My favorite thing about being a student here is that I feel like my professors are really on my side and will do whatever it takes to help me succeed - even if it means meeting numerous hours after class. And something really cool? I've even eaten dinner at a few of my professor's houses! I don't think that happens everywhere.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Southern Virginia University is 45%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
Dear Desiree, This is your future self, and I would like to provide you with some words of advice before you enter college. First of all, enjoy high school. Enjoy being able to spend time with your friends and family members who love you. Second, study for the ACT much more. A high ACT score will seriously enhance your opportunities for getting a scholarship. Third, do not give up on anything. If you know that "A" is attainable in math, no matter how often you need to go to th tutors, attain that "A." You can do it. Fourth, shoot for at least a 4 on the A.P. tests because some colleges only count 4's and above as college credit. Fifth, never change your dreams just because you feel intimidated by someone else. Take that intimidation and turn it into motivation to do even better. Sixth, get involved in extracurriculars, but manage your time carefully and put homework ahead of spending time with friends. Seventh, don't stress too much! High school (and life) is to be enjoyed. Embrace it and treasure each precious moment, because those moments don't last forever. Best of luck, Your future self
My classmates are very friendly and helpful to everyone around.
Those who wish to attend Southern Virgina University should be a person with high standards and moral values. The SVU Honor Code closely follows the values of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Mormon church, and its standards. In fact this school's Honor Code closely follows the Honor Code that you would find at one of the BYU schools. A propective student planning on attending SVU should encompass its five core values which are scholarship, discipleship, accountability, enthusiasm, and refinement. They should be eager to learn, serve, be obedient, have fun and improve themselves.
Someone who is ready to work hard and have and open flexible mind for learning.
It's a liberal arts college so the course requirements and majors are very broad, while other colleges are very specific. It's also much smaller than the other schools I considered. The environment at Southern Virginia University is very unique on its own. I haven't seen another college like it.
Sometimes the campus can feel "too small" and it can be somewhat difficult to escape for a while if you do not have a car.
It is a small, amazing community; Where the classes are small and every professor knows not only your name, but how to help yyou make the best of your education. They are interested in helping you graduate. There is a honor code that makes life on campus better, because you know that every last person has the same standards as you have.
I am most excited about attending SVU because of the intimate learning environment and the strong LDS presence on campus. At larger schools it is all too easy to become a number, a mere statistic. SVU's approach to education, their "genius of small", is designed to best help students achieve academic success while still maintaining their individuality. The LDS values that shape campus life are both complimentary to the education program and they encourage students to make connections and to foster long-lasting uplifting relationships. At SVU you not only improve as a student but also as a person.
I will be a transfer student this fall so I am unsure of what this campus will have in store for me. I am trying to do the best research I can and so far the faculty has been very helpful.
Southern Virginia University is a small college where one can acheive their dreams if they put forth a lot of effort
I can not afford to attend some times. I struggle with the finacial part of school. I love it at Southern Virginia University but even though i work so hard in my classes the scare of not being able to afford it frustrates me.
Southern Virginia University allows students a wholesome LDS environment where they are engaged in both the classroom and the community. Because of the smaller size of this magnificent university, students are able to interact with professors on a personal level which greatly enhances education. SVU is also a liberal arts college, so students are invited to explore a variety of engaging subjects as they learn how to become critical thinkers, communicate effectively, and gain and express enlightened opinions. Students who gain an education at SVU are prepared to enter the workforce or graduate school with outstanding confidence.
The classes offered are rather diverse, but the language department is lacking seeing as there is only a few teachers that know multiple languages. There would be more if enough people came in and wanted to learn a new language
Many people like the outdoor club and the cross country teams. I would say that the most popular activities are for the entire town also.
Our school may not look diverse on paper but it is in life. I feel like there are not any stereotypes here. There are many boys who play football and have the leading role in the school play. We are more than meets the eye.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
