It holds good standards for a junior college and I enjoyed my time there. I definitely felt that the faculty cared and though I felt underworked much of the time, I learned what I came there to learn. The facilities are very nice, especially the new Schmidt Art Center.

I love it there! When I first started and needed to be pointed in the right direction, every student I asked went out of there way to show me exactly where my classroom was. Now, I do that same thing for others, I actually did it today right before my class started. The community is great and supportive, it's like we're all one big family which is such a good thing for a college (especially a community college).

It's a decent school that is cheaper than a university and am hoping to prepare for the university life. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Some of the classroom sizes are good but some of them are really small. One of my classes has 10 students and that makes it hard to do some group work. And because that one class is so small, the class is only available once a year. I think some other classes are like this which makes it difficult for some students like myself.

SWIC has been a great school to go to right after high school. I feel like I am now more prepared and confident to enroll at a university to earn my Bachelors degree. But no matter what happens, I'll always have my Associates degree do fall back on. Almost every day at SWIC goes smooth. I rarely run into conflicts or have complaints. Some teachers have been less preferable in my opinion, but most have been great.

The programs are vigorous and exciting and all the faculity and staff are friendly and helpful. There are three campuses and each has a success center where students can receive free tutoring if need be. There are many clubs which students can participate in, and events that are arranged just for students enjoyment.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The professors are overall nice and contractually required to have regular office hours, so you can always find them if you need to. They also regularly check their emails. The classes move fairly quickly but the super small classes allow you to easily get some 1-on-1 time with the teacher after a class.

It's a good, cheap, and easy way for me to get the first part of my education done. I don't get involved with many groups or clubs, but they do have plenty. I don't usually eat at the cafeteria, but when I have, the food has been okay. Overall, I'm happy at SWIC, but I'll be glad to move on to a bigger, better college.

SWIC was undoubtedly not even on par with my high school in terms of education standards and environment. Professors often canceled classes without warning their students ahead of time, showed up late (but never showed anyone else the courtesy of allowing circumstantial tardiness. When the professors were there, they simply read off of slides that they more than likely got as handouts with their instructor manuals, never engaging in true dialogue to keep students interested and therefore enhance the level of education. They even had the audacity to drop me from a class after my third absence (in late April) without telling me until I had arrived in class, at which time they made sure to make me a public spectacle and treat me like a dog (I simply asked why I had not been warned ahead of time, and my professor replied by making it seem as though I had been threatening her). When I went to the guidance department, they repeatedly enrolled me in classes that they said I needed to take, only to tell me the next semester that I did not in fact need that class and had just wasted an entire semester in an incredibly subpar class. Don't waste your money folks.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Southwestern Illinois College is a perfect college for me to get a degree. My teachers understand that I have a disability and they always ask questions if I need help. I love my college and meeting new friends to talk to. I will work hard to get a high GPA and graduate Southwestern Illinois College.
