This school is fantastic for those who play sports, have wealthy parents, and were popular in high school. It's the up-and-coming suburban living prep-school, perfect for anyone who is very interested in partying and less interested in learning. I'll admit, the STEM classes have been challenging, and I do enjoy conversing with my professors. The student body, however, is largely made up of people who did not seem to learn respect as children and care to graduate with the degree, but no actual knowledge on their topic of study. This school is located in the middle of suburbia, just far enough from Austin that it is no longer worth the drive. Don't give yourself hope in looking at Georgetown's square -- there's nothing to do there, either.

Southwestern University was my number one school my senior year. I was so excited to go, and as a student, I still have the same excitement. I prefer the small classes so the size of the school is want attracted me to it. Although our campus is open, I feel safe to walk around it at any time of day. I am glad I chose Southwestern University.

Ashley - 08/02/2019

SU provides a close knit community of students and faculty. I came from a background of homeschooling so I needed a small class size and found that at SU. My largest class has been 15 people so I am always able to get to know my teachers and them me. I like to tell people that this is a double edged sword, they care and worry about you when you are sick or miss class so play hooky with caution.

Kristine - 07/22/2019

It's an awesome place to get smaller class sizes, hence more hands on experience. highly recommend for anyone who wants to be able to establish connections with faculty and staff. Majority of the student body is very welcoming and almost everyone is involved in at least one extracurricular activity,

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I have been in college for only a few months; however I feel as if I have experienced so much. I have experienced living in a dorm, moving away from home, playing a collegiate sport, joining groups such as Catholic Student Association, Pirate Crew, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, meeting new diversity of people, and creating a new chapter in my life. Starting college was like opening a new journal in my life. I had the pen in my hand, and the opportunity to write my own journey. So far my time in college has been the most challenging and exciting time in my life. College has been valuable to my life because it has forced me to grow up and start to be more independent. It has also challenged me in many ways, especially, academically. I feel like every day is a new and exciting challenge.

  5. What kind of person should attend this school?

Southwestern University is the best environment for students who want to work hard and play hard. Its close enough to Austin that if you want to party hard on the weekends you can go to clubs there or you can stay on campus and party at the fraternities, but Southwestern has plenty of people who aren't big drinkers or partiers. There are lots of movie nights, comedians, small concerts, guest speakers and lecturers and fine arts events on campus that you don't need to worry about your social life here. My school offers small classes and professors who care more about giving us insight into the world and educational opportunities than their paychecks. I love Southwestern because the people really matter here. Georgetown is also friendly, and is just small enough that they genuinely care about all of the students' welfare.
