My opinion of Spelman College is it's an amazing school that definitely shows black excellence. It has many opportunities for anyone majoring or minoring, and the teachers have many connections to others schools. Everyone is sociable and has a positive mindset.

Spelman College is a safe space for you black women to grow mentally and emotionally. There is a gap of where all the financial money goes for the students who need it. I see it going to students who are not in as dire of a need and they’re families already having some sort of affiliation with the school. With that being said, I don’t have enough money to find my education as a first-generation college student and a product of a single mother and Spelman hasn’t provided adequate help in showing that they care about my financial needs.

Raegan - 01/09/2022

It’s been my top pick HBCU to meet my collegiate needs for the past 5 years, since I visited the campus with a favorite cousin that also is an alumni of the school. I have been accepted for the Fall 2022, and can not wait! I know that this opportunity is going to shape and direct me in ways I can yet to comprehend, not to mention the connections and vast collaboration with male and females of color! I’m stoked!

Alix - 01/06/2021

Spelman College is a very special place. As an all-women's HBCU, it is a sacred space for us to learn. The environment and support system are reasons enough to attend the college. The connections you receive as an alumni will set you up for success for many years after college. I would not have been comfortable at any other institution as I have grown into womanhood. All Black women should be able to experience this type of environment.

Spelman College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Spelman College?

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Bill Cosby said, “There is a time and place for everything and it is called college.” If there is any place where one will have a life changing experience it is college. If I had the chance to coach myself back in high school, with my current knowledge, I would provide three pieces of advice. It would be about funding, eliminating procrastination and valuable study habits. Anxiety arises and receiving acceptance letters from dream schools is overwhelming. For me, nothing mattered besides getting in. All I thought about was friends, shopping, and college life out of state. If I could give myself advice, I would’ve begged myself to apply for scholarships. I would urge myself to stay away from student loans; actually I would suggest books, and extensive online research. Also, contacting a financial aid officer at the school to find other sources of funding would be helpful. Between classes and extracurricular activities, life is consuming. I would suggest a planner to avoid procrastination. Staying organized is key to success. I would tell myself to find good study habits such as reading over notes and resources. With all of these tools, college would have been a piece of cake.

  16. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Spelman College is said to be full of stuck-up, boujie, rich females. This stereotype is not accurate because I have several Spelman sisters who have to worry about if they are going to be able to come back the next semester because of money. I also have plenty of down to earth, laid back friends so this stereotype is completely wrong.
