St. John's College offers an environment for vast personal improvement in a close knit community of learners. Since the college mandates the course work for all students, it is not only possible but inevitable for a student to speak and learn from upper-classmen outside of class. The very accessible tutors here at St. John's College give me the confidence needed to ask a professional about Aristotle, or the book of Job. My desire is to understand Western thought and this is the environment that offers understanding.

The curiculum is more advanced. The volume of outside reading is almost unbearable at times, but it is completely worth it.

We have only one program that all students share. It's called the Great Books program. We begin with ancient Greece and work our way up to the 20th century by senior year. Heavy in philosophy, math, music, science and western culture and religion. We have no tests, grades are given officially, but not stressed. We are assessed by our tutors in a don rag which is when I will sit in a classroom with four or five tutors and they will report on my progress - good or bad - and then I will have a chance to respond. Everyone participates.
