There are many fun events hosted by students and staff but i also love going out into town. New Paltz is beautiful and great for hiking and biking or just strolling along its many quiet tree-lined streets. Restaurants, retail shops and professional offices intermingle with historic stone houses built in the 17th and 18th centuries. one of New Paltz attractions is Huguenot Street, the oldest street in America, where visitors are welcome to tour the original stone houses, gaining a glimpse of 17th century colonial life. There is also a movie theater in town. The best part of it all is that this is all walking distance from campus. :)
The clubs and organizations are popular. It's easy to meet people since it's a close college community. Frats and sororities exist but are not as popular as most other college campuses. There are 3 bars in town that are popular with the students. They have parties and theme nights to attract crowds and offer discounts on drinks. The bars are 21+ so if you don't have an ID your out of luck. There is a lot of other things to do on campus and off though. The schools has concerts, speakers, comedy nights, game nights. A Movie theater in town and in nearby Poughkeepsie and lots of restaurants, coffee houses, local concerts, art galleries, always stuff to do. If you are an outdoors type lots to do in the surrounding area. The outtings club has camping, white water rafting and other adventure trips. The wellness center has hiking, kayaking, camping, rock climbing trips. There's a rock climbing club. There are festivals, crafts fairs, art exhibits, all kinds of local events. The town gets really packed on weekends in the nicer weather with tourists and outdoor rec types who love the area.
