It is a diversity of people, multitude of oppurtunities, and exceptional experiences for their students. There are a lot of events offered for relaxation and to socialize with others. The people working there are pretty friendly as well as the teachers.

This university is extremely challenging and everyone complains about the lack of social life within the campus. The classes are very hard but they are really doable once you get into the groove to grind. I disagree with the lack of social life within the campus because I have met many of my close friends here and so many people just want to talk. Its so easy to find a group to hang out with on this campus and most people are friendly. Just get out there, study hard and you will be fine in this school. They also hold many fairs and have the career center which guides you to becoming successful in whatever your field is.

I commuted to campus like most students, but was able to get a quality education. I was able to connect to campus as well, which I know is a struggle for most students, but the opportunities are there if you look for them. The psychology professors were top notch as well and I overall had a great experience as a master's student. It can be cutthroat for undergrads from what I could tell.

SBU is an extremely balanced school. About half of the undergraduate students commute, and many stay on campus. SBU pushes students to bring out the best of their potential into their academics, and most, if not all, clubs and organizations are very welcoming/inclusive. When watching other students, I can see many of their priorities are a balance of partying/relaxing and school work. All in all, SBU pushes students to their limits and makes sure you receive the education you long for.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

After completing my first year here, I have come to realize that the university offers something for everybody. There are small communities in which everyone feels welcome. If you're into sports, we're a D1 school with athletic events going on all the time. If you're into partying, you can easily connect with fraternities and have fun every Friday night. If you're stressed out, you can join the crowds of people outside at midnight during finals week to scream your head off. If you're trying to get fit, you can attend the recreation center for free, as often as you'd like. If you're into scientific research, there are tons of professors who are willing to offer you a spot in their lab. However, none of these things are necessarily forced upon you. You don't have to attend frat parties every night, and you don't have to work in research labs if that's not your thing. Students here are accepting of all lifestyles and personalities, which is my absolute favorite thing about Stony Brook. It defies all stereotypes and truly offers something for every student, as long as you're willing to put yourself out there and seek what makes you happy.

The school is very liberal and tolerant of individuals of all kinds. This makes it have a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. There are plenty of academic resources for students and award-winning faculty that have done tons of good research. People should feel blessed to come here!

Its a nice environment especially if you're coming from city life. Its quiet on weekends but during the week you can find many friendly faces and its very easy to make friends. We have D1 sports and all home games are free for Stony Brook students. The dorms are pretty nice as long as you don't get stuck with an annoying roommate and the RAs are very friendly they're always looking to help. We have buses and shuttles that take off to off-campus locations such as the nearby Smith Haven Mall, and those modes of Transportation are also free for Stony Brook students on certain days.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is an enjoyable school with lots of opportunities for a variety of fields in both the arts and sciences. There are plenty of people who live on and off campus and partake in the extracurricular activities available, each one offering a large array of activities both physical and communal. Despite its size, Stony Brook is a very safe and welcoming campus.

Being a student at Stony Brook has opened so many doors for me. Being a large campus, we are never short on things to do and ways to get involved. All the staff members are friendly and willing to help. Even students are always willing to help. When I first came to Stony Brook, I immediately felt like I belonged there and have never felt out of place. I feel like it is that way for a lot of people. Since we are so diverse, there is always something to learn and something to talk about. There is always someone new to meet and someone willing to talk to you. I love Stony Brook because it is also challenging, All the classes are pretty rigorous and hands on, but they all make me feel well prepared for that subject. Of course, like all colleges, Stony Brook has its flaws, but the good far outweighs the bad. We could definitely improve on the food here, as well as transportation to certain areas around the campus.

I love Stony Brook University!!! When I was looking at colleges, I did not rank Stony Brook Univerity high on my list, it definitely was not top 3. However, they started the Nursing Scholars program the year I applied and I was accepted into it. Nursing Scholars is a program for freshman where, based on the application, essays, and grades, certain selected freshman where accepted into the very competitive Stony Brook Nursing School. This takes away all the stress of applying to that nursing school and other nursing schools. As long as a GPA of 3.0 is kept over the first two years, when you take the prerequisites and receive a passing grade for the prerequisite classes, then junior year you are automatically admitted into the Nursing Program. It has been an amazing experience to be at Stony Brook University and despite not being originally the place I wanted to attend, I am grateful to be here. I love the campus and the people here, students, teachers, and other faculty and staff. I ride my bike everywhere and I feel safe no matter how late I'm out studying in the library. It has truly been a great place to grow and learn.
