Love everything about this school! Although I do wish that they offered more parking to students nearby campus. Otherwise, this is the University I admired the most because of their integrity, cleanliness, diversity, and of course, their academics. I would most certainly recommend this university to any and every student out there!

On-campus social life is a bit lacking but there are fun things to do if you make friends. Most professors are decent but, like all schools, there are some bad ones to look out for. Roth Regatta is a super fun campus tradition every year! Food is decent for the price, but I would recommend getting off of the meal plan as soon as possible.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is a very competitive school that put a lot of pressure on it's students especially if you are in any of the STEM programs. The student life staff doesn't always listen to what is needed from the people living on campus. Having Stony Brook on your diploma is a huge achievement though and can open a lot of doors for you.

Stony Brook University is a research based campus, with endless research opportunities primarily in the STEM field. There is great diversity to be found in the student body and you are bound to meet an international student at some point. The food is okay on campus but there are great places near campus that make up for it.

It is a diversity of people, multitude of oppurtunities, and exceptional experiences for their students. There are a lot of events offered for relaxation and to socialize with others. The people working there are pretty friendly as well as the teachers.

This university is extremely challenging and everyone complains about the lack of social life within the campus. The classes are very hard but they are really doable once you get into the groove to grind. I disagree with the lack of social life within the campus because I have met many of my close friends here and so many people just want to talk. Its so easy to find a group to hang out with on this campus and most people are friendly. Just get out there, study hard and you will be fine in this school. They also hold many fairs and have the career center which guides you to becoming successful in whatever your field is.

I commuted to campus like most students, but was able to get a quality education. I was able to connect to campus as well, which I know is a struggle for most students, but the opportunities are there if you look for them. The psychology professors were top notch as well and I overall had a great experience as a master's student. It can be cutthroat for undergrads from what I could tell.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

SBU is an extremely balanced school. About half of the undergraduate students commute, and many stay on campus. SBU pushes students to bring out the best of their potential into their academics, and most, if not all, clubs and organizations are very welcoming/inclusive. When watching other students, I can see many of their priorities are a balance of partying/relaxing and school work. All in all, SBU pushes students to their limits and makes sure you receive the education you long for.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

After completing my first year here, I have come to realize that the university offers something for everybody. There are small communities in which everyone feels welcome. If you're into sports, we're a D1 school with athletic events going on all the time. If you're into partying, you can easily connect with fraternities and have fun every Friday night. If you're stressed out, you can join the crowds of people outside at midnight during finals week to scream your head off. If you're trying to get fit, you can attend the recreation center for free, as often as you'd like. If you're into scientific research, there are tons of professors who are willing to offer you a spot in their lab. However, none of these things are necessarily forced upon you. You don't have to attend frat parties every night, and you don't have to work in research labs if that's not your thing. Students here are accepting of all lifestyles and personalities, which is my absolute favorite thing about Stony Brook. It defies all stereotypes and truly offers something for every student, as long as you're willing to put yourself out there and seek what makes you happy.
