There are a lot of great people here but most of them go home on the weekend. Professors and classes, especially the one's in STEM, are pretty hard but some of them are really attentive towards students. There's some work that can be done (when it comes to food, campus housing, etc.) but overall it's good for the price.

I grew up near and around Stony Brook University. Since I was younger I would go to their Dental School. Throughout junior high and high school I attended on campus summer programs. It was the place I knew I would always end up at but I had dreams of going away as well. I don't regret my decision of staying. Stony Brook is affordable and a great university. Unfortunately, we've lost funding for some arts and humanities departments which I'm involved with and it's rough to see them go. But I don't hate Stony Brook for it. I wish there were ways to keep these departments as I believe they provide variety to Stony Brook. Overall, Stony Brook is a great place. The "worst" part is my commute and making sure I get to class on time. I study and work at Stony Brook and can honestly say that I'm very happy to be. I would recommend Stony Brook to other students and I hope that this university can keep expanding.

It is a decent university with great professors. Overall the students at this university are very friendly. The foods at this school is terrible though (there are protests last year due to the poor foods served at this university). And freshman usually dorm with two other people (triple).

Different people definitely have different opinions of Stony Brook. So here's what I think about it: the food is terrible (thanks Sodexo), but hopefully it gets better this fall, the professors are researchers first and teachers second, housing is expensive but its decent and the class sizes are horrendous, especially for certain science classes. With that being said, I still hope to make the best out of Stony Brook.

Holistically, I think that Stony Brook University has a lot of opportunities for its students that is not always clearly visible to everyone. One thing that students have to do to get connected is either be sociable and network, or join a fraternity or sorority. I personally am not a fan of Greek life considering some of the stigmas are true on campus, but I am not excluded from some of the amazing opportunities available because I communicate with people I believe can help me gain such advances in life.

While the campus is not normally involved in the casual party scene, there are clubs and extracurricular activities for just about anybody who comes here. Those that disagree tend to also be the ones that are not looking hard enough. Stony Brook generally treats they're students like adults, so it is their responsibility to learn about many of the activities to do on campus.

Stony Brook has an excellent academics reputation. The classes are extremely tough but that is because there is a lot of competition between students. The professors are, for the most part and to my knowledge, incredibly supportive and know what they are talking about. I commute to school so I only know about on campus housing from friends. The food could be better but I'm there for the academics.

I am proud to be a Stony Brook Seawolf. The campus is gorgeous (especially in the spring time with the cherry blossom trees) and I have made some really good friends. Some of the classes have been eye-opening for me in regards to my major and I had the opportunity to get really close to some of my professors. There is always a club to join and some of the events they host are so popular in the campus community. Some areas of improvement will have to be dining (SBU is in the process of switching food provider companies so hopefully the food will get better) and the campus housing process. It does get pretty desolate on the weekends due to a large commuter population but life's what you make of it! Undergrads should definitely hit up the renovated pool that just opened up-it's free for us! Overall, I can say that I had an awesome first year and I can't wait to see what the future holds here at SBU.

Overall this is a wonderful school which really goes out of their way to make student life great. As a large university with a lot of students they know that it's easy for the school to swallow you while and spit you out. They really try to make events on campus fun and destressing they have pet therapy dogs come in during midterms and finals meditations groups and music playing occasionally. It's a great school that takes pride in the students that make it out of the school just be sure to utilize the services they offer like the tutoring center and you'll be a fine. The philosophy at stony brook is a flagship Ivy League education at a fraction of the cost so they're going to give you research level work. Be prepared.

My opinion of Stony Brook University is that it is a great school academically, especially for students interested in being Pre-Med and STEM fields. Other majors also have good programs and most professors are good, though, like every campus, there are some professors whose classes are more difficult but that adds to the challenges Stony Brook encourages students to attempt and succeed in.
