As a current student at UAlbany, it is clear to see that the school incorporates many factors that every student considers when picking a school. Whether it is academics, extra-curriculars, campus safety, diversity, or even athletics; all of these are major parts of UAlbany. Being a SUNY, the school is very affordable and offers many students the opportunity to start their college career. Although affordable, UAlbany still has highly-accredited programs and skilled faculty that will give you the tools for a quality education. Outside the classroom, there are an immense amount of opportunities that I have gotten involved with on campus. The school has over 200 student-run organizations, meaning there is a organization for everybody to meet people with similar interests and enjoy themselves. Athletics is also a huge part of campus life, where we have 17 Division I teams playing at the top level. I currently work with the football team as an intern and have been given amazing opportunities to travel with the team and make a lot of new connections. They gave me a chance to further my career while doing something I love and I am very appreciative for that. As for everyday life, there are four quads on campus where freshman and sophomore can live. There are two different rooming options to choose from: you can live in a single in a suite, or a standard double in a suite as well. For food, UAlbany has expanded their food options to have many more places to choose from than years past. My favorite change to the school is the new Campus Center addition that has added over 10 new places to eat. Also there are three dining halls spread out around campus if you ever want to switch it up. It provides me and all students a perfect balance of different options so food never becomes dull. UAlbany was a perfect fit for me and I would recommend anyone to visit and see for themselves. They truly have a lot to offer and what you put in is what you get, so get yourself out there and be involved, because the benefits are endless. I hope this post helps give a student perspective and a clear view of what UAlbany can do for you.

UAlbany is an amazing school, offering a wide array of opportunities to fit the preferences of every student. Personally when I came to this school I was a little overwhelmed with an undergraduate population around 12,000 students I thought I would get lost in the crowd here. However, once I arrived I learned that this was far from true. The university did a wonderful job of inviting you into the family like community that exists here in Albany. Of course it does take some effort, I have heard complaints from students who stay in their rooms and only leave for class or food that students are unfriendly. It takes effort, my first year I put myself out there and met a lot of students that were in the same place as me and were just as eager to meet new people. I ended up moving into a room of guys that were a lot like my friends back home and we still live together today. So for anyone who is nervous about going to a bit of a larger school, I would like to share that I guarantee that you will find people you can enjoy talking to and genuinely appreciate being around as long as you are willing to put yourself out there and try.

UAlbany is a great school! There is so much to do here that it's easy to get involved and make friends. Students regularly go to sporting events, participate in clubs, and attend events that the Student Association hosts such as "Speaker Series" and annual concerts like Parkfest. In addition, I've found that most of my professors are very passionate about the subject that they are teaching. They regularly encourage their students to ask questions and participate during class as well as attend their office hours. I also feel very safe on campus. At night, the campus is well lit and if there is an emergency, we have an emergency blue light phone system all over campus which automatically calls UPD when needed (however, I have not heard of anyone needing to use this system). Overall, UAlbany is a great school and although it wasn't my top choice when I applied, I can't see myself anywhere else now.

It’s easy to get lost here and slip between the cracks. It’s also easy to find yourself and be loud. I’ve seen examples of both and unfortunately I was the former type. While I succeeded academically, it’s easy to get caught up in unnecessary drama. It’s ALWAYS better to be yourself.

UAlbany has become a second home to me and a place to thrive. Although not perfect, UAlbany is a fantastic community with bright students who care about their academics and faculty who want you to be successful. As a business student, I have had so many opportunities to network with professionals and recruiters in various fields. You will learn so much at UAlbany with professors who have relevant experience and work hard to help you. The spirit and community is great, with various sports that bring in lots of school pride. This school will give you an amazing foundation that will give you a bright future. Join clubs and organizations!! There are so many options. I feel so safe here. UPD is always visible on campus and does a great job of communicating with students. Students feel happy, safe and welcoming here and that is true for every person I have met. Come here, and you will not regret it. You will make your own experience here, but it will be one that makes you so successful and helps you grow as a person.

I'm a huge fan of UAlbany. I understand that it is not perfect but I still have had a great experience here. The campus is in the perfect location, pretty much everything you could want is within a 15 minute drive. The free public transportation from campus will take you to almost all of these places as well. The campus food has been improving and is expected to continue to get better in the future. There are a bunch of new places in the Campus Center that have made a lot of the student body very happy. I have lived on campus for all four years of my academic career and do not regret my decision. All of the quads and apartment complexes are close to classes so you will have a 20 minute walk max to anywhere on campus. It does get cold in the winter but what else can you expect from Upstate New York. Overall, great experience here at UAlbany. I would recommend the school to everyone!

I am currently a freshman in my second semester of college. I will be graduating in 2021! Anyways my overall opinion of SUNY at Albany is that there are a lot of things to do while you stay here. I can't say that I have been bored or out of things to do because there are so many opportunities on and off campus. Sure Albany was once known to be a "party' school but I can quite honestly say that the partying has died down over the years and that Albany students have focused on academics and extra curricular activities. Overall if you are looking to enroll as a full time, on campus living student here at Albany then you will absolutely have a great experience.

Coming to Albany was one of the best decisions I’ve made so far in my life. The atmosphere here is just amazing. It’s so diverse and where ever you go, you will find somewhere where you fit in. It’s so great not only in academics but socially as well. I really do enjoy being a student here!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I am currently a Junior Accounting major at UAlbany. Looking at colleges can be stressful because there are so many options, but I am very happy with my decision to attend UAlbany and I have loved every minute I have been here! UAlbany is a good financial option, especially for in-state students, but there are so many more reasons why you should attend this school. The first being student involvement. There are so many different organizations and student groups here that represent all different interests. If you want to be involved, it is very easy to be. One of the main reasons I came to UAlbany was to play on the Division 1 Volleyball team. Sports are definitely a big part of student life here, and even if you are not on a team, so many students go to the games. Academically, I have been very satisfied with my education and all of the professors in the Business School. There are so many opportunities for Business students here, and I am very confident I will have a job when I graduate because of the opportunities that have been provided to me by the Business School. Finally, campus life here is very fun. The underclassman housing is pretty standard for college. Almost all of the dorms are double rooms within suites of 4 or 6. The upperclassman on-campus apartments at UAlbany are some of the best I've seen at any school. I currently live in a single bedroom that has a full-sized bed with my own bathroom inside my bedroom. I live in a suite with 3 of my other friends who also have single bedrooms. I love this set-up because I am still living with my friends, but I have privacy when I need it. There is a party scene at UAlbany, but nothing overwhelming. You only have to be involved if you want to be.
