For the most part I absolutely love Purchase. It was a life savor and completely unexpected for me. I transfered here from The Culinary Institute of America, and I can't say enough how much of an upgrade this was. These four years have been the most exciting, exhausting, interesting, and unforgettable years of my educational career. Hands down the best part of Purchase is the people and the uniqueness. I guarantee you that there is no other school that is like Purchase. Whether you're talking about the fashion, or activities there is always something weird, unusual, or extreme to experience. Don't worry, you don't have to be overwhelmed because there are people that just want to relax and the Wellness center is a great resource for stress.
There are a few things I would like to change about Purchase, but my biggest problem with the school is how disorganized admissions is. I'm refering to transferring credits, registering for classes can be a nightmare, and sometimes you have to talk to more than one person to get the right answer.
Purchase is small, but I wouldn't change the size. The size of the student population definitely positively affects the atmosphere. Surprisingly, you still won't know everyone no matter how involved you are. When I tell people that I go to Purchase they either don't know what it is, they bring up a stereotype, or they say they heard it was cool and artsy. The school is definitely cool and artsy.
Purchase doesn't have a college town, but you have a free bus that takes you into White Plains, which has everything you will need including access the city.
Professors here are generally genuine, amazing, caring, and well educated. A lot of them are even fun. I have made some great relationships with professors that I know will help me in the long run and I will always cherish them.
There is always controversy at Purchase because students constantly speak there mind. I would say most recently the biggest controversy was the fight between the feminist club on campus and the hip hop club. They were arguing over a performer for our huge Culture Shock, which is a reason to come here in itself. It's like a mini Woodstock.
Purchase has a lot of pride whether it's with are popular events, wearing Purchase gear everywhere, or attending games. 9 out of 10 students would probably say they love Purchase.
There are too many good and bad memories that I have from Purchase, but I will never forget my first day at Purchase. I made an enormous amount of friends that day just by hanging out in the quad where people were siting in a huge circle playing instruments, sharing stories, and smoking hookah.
The biggest complaints from students are how annoying registration is, that the shuttle can be unreliable, and that the construction is never ending. However, I am so thankful that I got to experience my college years at Purchase. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
