SUNY at Purchase College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Julien

Think wide open" which is the slogan of the school. I knew the slogan but what I didn't know was what it meant, when I got in Purchase I met different students each one of them with their personality and believes but what they had in common is how proud they were of who they are. It help me a lot to progress on every level. f I had knew about that school policy Purchase would have been my first choice.

It's harder than you might think to get off campus; not much within walking distance and the bus system is a pain. But there's a lot to do on campus! The Performing Arts Center attracts great music and theatre performers and students can get tickets to any show for $5; some of which cost around $100 for non-students. The Student Center also has lots of great shows and events. Take advantage of being somewhere with so much art! It's an exciting and unique environment.

Rebecca

Everyone here is pretty confident in who they are, so it makes for a very unique environment. It's a school where you either fit in or you don't. Since everyone is always showing how talented they are, it pushes you to explore that artistic, creative side of yourself.

Kara

I wish I had known that I was missing a beginners class in order to graduate which I had to make up in my last semester.

Samantha

I wish I had known just exactly how much the school has to offer. There are so many groups and clubs to be in as well as classes to choose from, and I limited myself the first semester. Now that I am better educated about the opportunities available to me I'm having an even greater experience.

Aaron

Try and make your experience here a mixture of hard work and good play. If you take yourself to seriously you'll be lonely, if you go too wild you'll fail out. Never be afraid to be yourself and take risks!

Tyler

That its not a typical college and there was really nothing to worry about.

Lindsey

I already knew a lot about the school before I came because I live near by and had friends who previously attended this school. I would have to say one thing people need to know before coming to Purchase is that most people here are very liberal and artistic, and if that's not the type of person you are or get along with then you might feel out of place at Purchase.

I wish I had known to bring rainboots, because the campus floods when it rains. And it rains frequently, creating lakes in the middle of campus. I wish I had known that students often aren't academically engaged, although my department is excellent. There could be more of an intellectual community. Campus is in the middle of the forest, and I wish I had made more trips to New York City, which is nearby, but not always as accessible as it could be.

becky

I honestly dont wish I had known anything, it has exceeded any expectations I had.

Jillian

I wish that I had pursued more scholarship and outside financial aid. As an out-of-state student at a state school I recieved very little aid. This is troubling as I come from a single-parent household and am putting myself through college through student loans. With a liberal arts background going to graduate school would be ideal, but unfortunately at the moment not financially feasible (hence me taking time on this survey).

Mallory

How quickly the amazing experience flies by.

April

I wish that I had known that the school was still futzing around with it's major requirements, every year there are different requirements which means that one has to follow strict rules in a small book that isn't labeled important and can't compare their schedules with other students as they have different requirements yet are in the same program. I wish I had known that the school had SUCH limited studio space for it's students. I also wish I'd have known that they don't really care about your home situation, commuting or money.
