There are many stereotypes of students, however none of these stereotypes are accurate, frat kids and jocks aren't jerks, stoners don't get high all the time, and at my school everyone is "geek".
Stereotype: White party animals from Long Island that also manage to be academic overachievers. There's definitely a large white population, but there are also a lot of Asians. Blacks, hispanics, and people of other races/origins do exist here, but they're not very common. At least a third of the people here, from what I've seen, are from Long Island or the city, which leaves a lot of upstate New Yorkers. There's a small division between the two groups, but it's mostly humorous and not a real problem. Yes, it's a party school. But it's very easy to find people and make friends who never party or touch alcohol, and within those groups avoiding parties and drinking is almost effortless.
