WE'RE A SMALLER CAMPUS, BUT NOT TOO SMALL. YOU WILL SEE SOME OF THE SAME PEOPLE EVERYDAY, AND SOMETIMES YOU WILL SEE SOMEONE YOU NEVER HAVE BEFORE. ITS FRIENDLY AND LIVELY.
Cortland is an awesome school for teachers and physical education majors. Cortland was originally called "The Teacher's School", and it wasn't until much later in it's life that Cortland opened up to other majors. It's a highly competitive athletic school and there is always something to do. Though Cortland's majority of students are teaching or P.E. majors, all of the departments are excellent and have professors that hold office hours so that students are always able to meet with them for extra help.
At SUNY Cortland there are such great opportunities for any type of student. There are so many sports teams, club teams, intramurals, along with organizations like AIDS Awareness, NYPIRG, sororities, fraternities, art clubs, writing clubs. There is honestly something to do here for anyone who is willing to try something new. I'm currently involved in a water skiing team. Everyone is encourged to try something new, no one judges your knowledge or skill level. I played Melonball for the first time and I participated in community service events and took a trip to a Native Indian reservation.
There is a real sense of commeraderie between students at Cortland. THere is great support academically and socially. I have personally used the tutoring services and am a part of the Non-Traditional Students Organization. The NTSO makes a great difference to those of us that are older or have children or spouses, etc!
The teachers at, what we the students call, C-State really care about their students. All the teachers I had during my first semester made me feel like they were always available to talk if I had a problem; and they usually were. This quality assures me that I truly picked the right school.
My school, SUNY Cortland, is unique because it is one of the best Education schools, and has a diverse campus.
This school is unique to me because it has an special program. I am in the Inclusive Special Education program. Other schools I considered had regular education and special education but not inclusive.
One of the unique aspects of the school was it's location 5 miles from a ski resort and centrally located between Syracuse and Ithaca.
I think SUNY Cortland is unique because there really aren't any social barriers at this school. Everyone is very friendly and eager to meet new people. Everyone is really fun and enjoys sharing their experiences with friends new and old. There really aren't cliques here everyone really connects no matter their race or background.
Many different programs, very friendly atmosphere
SUNY Cortland has a very tight community within the athletic department. It is small enough where the teachers know who you are and your typical work habbits, but big enough where your social life isn't limited. Very supportive and caring faculty.
It had the variety of academic and extra cirricular programs I was looking for while at the same time beibg small enough got studnets to get the attention from professors that they need to better academic growth. The people here were also incredibly friendly which wasn't the case at some of the other schools I looked at.
