What is your overall opinion of this school?

Syracuse University has something for everybody. It boasts a wide array of academic programs whose quality range from average to excellent. The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the School of Architecture, and the S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications are among the finest in the country in their respective fields. Syracuse University's campus is actually quite beautiful and, for the most part, its facilities and academic buildings are nice. The weather can be intimidating, but it's never so bad that you can't manage it. From a social standpoint, the school leaves more to be desired. Clouded by a heavy presence of Greek Life, Syracuse's social scene largely consists of exclusive frat parties. One might look at the student body and sense arrogance and entitlement more than friendliness and welcoming. Still, with over 15,000 undergraduate students, there is a large pool from which you will find a crowd that suits you if you look hard enough.

The school has numerous problems from rampant greek life to its obvious high tuitions and lack of financial aid. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and participate in student life. However theres quite a bit of debilitating inter-college focus.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

After completing my freshman year at Syracuse University, I was in complete awe. Believe it or not, I had never visited Syracuse University before I moved in last August so I honestly didn't know what to expect. However, I absolutely love it. The professors are great, there is a lot of diversity, there are so many clubs you can join, and just so many things to do on campus. ALthough we are a very big school, it has a small school feel to it because there are so many opportunities for everyone to feel integrated. The academics are great. Some majors more than others give you a lot of freedom when it comes to choosing your classes. Also, there are requirements that make you take classes that are outside of your major. This way you can become a more worldly and well rounded student. Aside from academics, there are also a lot of activities going on on campus. In the Schine Student Center, organizations are usually tabling in order to try and integrate the Syracuse community and get people interested in their organization. If you want to do something there is something for you and if there isn't it's easy to start it! The school pride is also off of the charts! I’ve never seen people so excited to see an orange walking around campus. I worked at The Dome and I’ve attended a lot of games and the energy is amazing. The only negative thing I have to say is that Syracuse, New York is a very poor city. There is not much to do outside of the university if you don’t have a car. Thankfully, the university does an extremely good job at constantly having activities for the students to participate in. I really love my school and I’m glad I made the decision of attending Syracuse University.

It's a great school with a beautiful campus. I have definitely met a lot of interesting people who have widened my world view. There are more international students than I expected (which is positive) as I enjoy a diverse background. Professors are friendly and helpful as well.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The academics are excellent, the professors are great and the campus is beautiful. There are many serious students in campus but the Greek life drowns them out. The party scene is out of control and detracts from an overall awesome school. If the administration was willing to actually control the fraternities and sororities so that they were more tame, Syracuse's atmosphere would be much more welcoming. I also wish they would put more money into the College of Arts and Sciences and less into athletics.

I absolutely love the school. The students are a true reflection of what it means to get the most out of college. Academics are highly prioritized and always come first. Social events, philanthropy, community service, and networking are also incredibly important. I am very close with many of my professors and the class size and overall school size is ideal as it can get.

I am a first year student and I couldn't be more happy with my decision to come here. The facilities are fantastic, professors are very helpful, the sports are crazy, the support and student atmosphere is awesome, and the food actually isn't bad at all. I'm loving my first year and all the opportunities Syracuse is giving me.

Even if you don't like it right away, Syracuse grows on you. Yes, the dorms can be gross, it's winter for most of the year, and you have to call a taxi to go anywhere, but it's a great school if you focus your energy in the right places. You don't need to be into partying or sports to have a good time, but if that's your thing (and it will be after your first weekend here), you're going to have the time of your life. Join a few clubs, meet the right people, and enjoy the experience. You're going to learn to love the snow.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

There is always something you can do on campus, whether it be attending an architecture lecture by someone in the field after class, seeing the basketball team beat Duke, or go to a musical production downtown. There is something here for everyone and the students as well as the faculty and staff are super supportive for you to do your best.
