Tacoma is the best College in Washington

Kylie

I think this school is great. The campus is beautiful and obviously kept up with, and the new additions like the newer buildings really compliment the school. For a nature-lover like myself, this campus is the perfect place to see the changing colors of the leaves on trees, squirrels crossing your path and up in tree branches above and the beautiful Mt. Rainier off in the distance.

Tacoma Community College is an alright school to start out with. There are no living quarters on campus but from what I have heard and seen there are many apartments nearby and a bus station for students without a car. The food is decent but we have no cafeteria services so it is often snack food and usually unhealthy. Teachers are nice for the most part but some grade too harshly on their students expecting them to be on a higher level than they are. Especially in the math and science departments. If you want a basic degree or the opportunity to transfer your credits to a four-year college Tacoma Community College is a safe choice.

I enjoy going to school at TCC. It is environmentally friendly and the people are always helping each other out. My teachers have been very informative, patient, and supportive in our careers and education. I am staying for a third year and will be helping out other students with their studies by becoming a new tutor and I cannot wait!

Tacoma Community College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Tacoma Community College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Tacoma Community College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Don't wait! Whatever you do, don't let the prospect of a paycheck get between you and furthering your education. If you dive into the workplace and "take some time" to figure out what you are going to do, you'll find it much harder to come back to school. Complete your education while you're still in the mindset of being a student, no matter how quickly you want to transition to becoming an independant adult. It can be a struggle sometimes, being a student. It is different from working a job. You don't get to clock on to work, clock off and not have to worry about your job til the next day. Being a student, commiting to it, requires your attention most of your waking hours, and even some of your unconscious hours. Stressful, yes, but it can also be very rewarding. Keep your eyes on the prize, look to the stars and remember that you can help to do great things for this world and the people on it.

  4. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Through no fault of Tacoma Community College, as this is the case with any school, the most frustrating aspect about attending school is the lack of availability of later classes as a full time corporate worker with a family and home. I don't want just any degree to pass on to my employer's checklist of preferred employee accomplishments. I want a degree that is fulfilling and challenging in ways that help me to grow as a person. Without more availablility, it is impossible for me to complete my degree without very drastic scheduling and financial changes.

  5. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The cost of tuition is horrendous. The only way to be able to afford it is through scholarships and grants. To take it one step further, those who are lucky enough to receive said scholarships and grants may only get enough to cover their tuition. Unfortunately, that means they may not have enough money to pay for the required textbooks or supplies for their individual classes.

  6. What's unique about your campus?

I likek the smaller class sizes that Tacoma Community College offers. These allot each student the chance to ask specific questions of their professor(s) and be able to receive an individualized response which, in turn, ould benefit the class as a whole. Secondly, the students are able to be mroe productive if their professor(s) feel their students would benefit in any group work activity. Lastly, the professor(s) have less paperwork to analize and grade when teachign in a smaller classroom.

  7. What kind of person should attend this school?

I've seen all sorts of people become very sucessful at TCC. If I had to narrow it down to two situations, I would first have to say that the Running Start program for high school students in their junior and senior years is a wonderful opportunity. To be able to get a high school diploma and an associate's degree at the same time is a great savings in money and time. I also think TCC is great for people returning to school after an absence. Every effort is made to ensure that the older student succeeds.

  8. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish someone would have recommended me to go to the tutor buildings as a study hall. Classes were a lot tougher than I expected.

  9. What kind of person should not attend this school?

I believe this school is a great school for anyone to start out at. The counselors are nice and want to help you graduate. The teachers are very helpful and actually care about their students. The teachers make an effort to connect with each and every one of their students. This school really helps prepare you for a four year university.

TCC is best known for its innovative programs designed to help those students returning to school, either after dropping out of high school, or those of us who are returning to college after years in the workforce or as homemakers. 14. What are the academics like at your school?

My favorite classes have been the chemistry classes as I have had very interesting instructors. I was a D student in chemistry back in high school and so far I have A's. Instructors always try to have students involved in class discussions and this helps all participate. Most classmates I have had have scored quite highly in the classes we have had together. I plan on joining the nursing major though I'm currently taking my prerequisites and so far I have enjoyed it. My school schedule also fits well with my personal schedule so I have enough time to do my own stuff. I try to ask as much as possible in class to avoid looking for instructors outside class hours.

  15. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Quite a number of clubs are popular like the engineering club, Black students organization. Currently I am not a member of any group. As far as dating goes, I would say students interact a lot. I met most of my friends during the new student orientation and the rest during class time. I would say students party when necessary and not very often. I do not drink so most of my Saturdays are non drinking days spent watching movies, assignments, reading, or just relaxing. Off campus I visit sited within the state lakes, museums, parks, etc
