Temple has diverse activities students can join like team sports, club team sports, and student organizations. Temple has over 300 student organizations on campus some of them are: Promoters of Animal Welfare, Purple Circle, Scrabble Club, Bethel Campus Fellowship, Dynasty (a modeling club), Temple Community Garden, Film Collective, Knitting Club, and so much more! From that brief list you can get an idea of the various clubs Temple has for each student’s interest. There are several fraternities and sororities to get involved in if a student is interested. I’m involved in both Students for Environmental Action and Temple Ad Club. SEA is a group that tries to implement environmental change on and off campus and TAC is a career oriented club that focuses in advertising issues by bringing in speakers to talk about the industry.
When you live on campus in a dorm usually the first month or so students in the dorms are very social and will leave their doors open so you can stop by and chat. This is a good opportunity to speak to your fellow classmates and make some new friends!
There is a lot of school pride at Temple and students are able to get free sporting tickets to all home games by showing their TU ID at the door. Temple offers shuttles to and from the football games and often have tail gate parties. Temple has theater productions throughout the year and offers a 5 dollar discount to students with a valid school id.
At the beginning of every year there is a welcome week for the students to get ready for the new school year. This week involves a “carnival” of vendors and student organizations on our main strip of campus handing out information about the clubs and the vendors give away coupons and giveaway prizes. There is also a day that there is free ice cream and we usually have a concert that is free for students, including past performers such as Keri Hilson. Also every spring we have a Spring Fling which is a bigger version of Welcome week but just on one day. There are vendors and student organizations and a concert. In the past we have had the band N.E.R.D play and also J. Cole.
Students usually just party on the weekends at a frat or a house party. If you are not interested in drinking Temple provides alternatives so there is less underage drinking. Every Friday there is a themed night called Free Food Fun Fridays. A student organization sponsors the night and there is a specific theme with different activities throughout the night. Every hour there is new free food presented. Some of the featured activities in the past were magicians, massages, manicures, trivia, raffle prizes, tie dye shirts, air brush shirts, cotton candy, and hypnotists are just some of them!
Not only is there plenty of things to do on campus but we live in Philadelphia and there is so many tourist attractions we have access to! The Philadelphia Art Museums, Franklin Institute Museum, Love park, comedy clubs, South Street, professional sporting events, food tours, art galleries, ice skating rinks, and more!
