What is your overall opinion of this school?

Gina

I have mixed feelings. A lot of people have found their niche and clubs to be in, but I don't think I fit in very much. It is hard to get used to the "big school" atmosphere if you come from a small town. There is a lot of partying and TUAlerts, but it doesn't interfere with school work. I have found that there are people on both ends of the spectrum-- those who love it and those who hate it. I'm thinking about transferring but I also see myself staying..

US News and World Report ranks the Online MBA program as #1 in the world!

I was actually going to the Japan campus of this university, and the best thing about this school is that you can easily make friends from all around the world, because they are so friendly and all exchange students experience the same thing: living abroad. It's quite a challenge living in a country where language, culture or basically everything is different from their own country, and Japanese students are kind enough to understand their situation and willing to help them. It also has a benefit on Japanese students because by interacting with exchange students they can learn and improve English. TUJ is not large at all with total of less than 1,000 students, and that's another thing I like about. When school is too large it's tough in so many ways. And people tell me it's good that I can learn English in Japan. All other Japanese universities have courses offered in English, but this is a 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} English environment in Japan and that's what makes this university unique. All students complain about not having a food-court or those shops in the cafeteria. I myself think they should have one of those.

Temple University was great when I did attend. I graduated in 2006.

Ari

I love the diversity of the university. I have met so many different types of people. I would allow for more students to be able to stay on campus. My university is just right. People usually think that Temple is a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) because it is located in north Philadelphia. I spent most of my time in the Howard Gittis Student Center. The school is located in Philadelphia, PA. Temple Administration is in the support of the students. There could be a lot more school pride. I will always remember my friends.

Brianna

My overall opinion of Temple is high. We've got a huge campus and tons of interesting students and resources. A lot of people that hear I go to Temple assume because it's in North Philly that it's unsafe. That's certainly not the case. I'm very confident that Temple is safe and that they plan to keep it that way. We have a ton of school pride and a lot of prospective students interested in celebrating with us. Although I moved off campus as a sophomore, I still spend a great deal of time on campus. Temple offers an overwhelming amount of interesting courses and has more organizations than I could imagine. If you have a hobby or interest, there's no doubt Temple can accommodate you.

Tara

Let me start off by saying that Temple had been my dream school since I was 15 and has been everything I dreamed about and more! I really enjoy the diversity between the students and various club organizations. Because Temple is a large school it is more difficult to connect with classmates in the class room but that is what is good about the different student clubs! The student clubs provide an outlet for students to join interest or career orientated clubs and is able to interact with others. There is a lot of school pride throughout Temple. Temple provides free sport tickets to all of the athletic home games. We have several tail gate parties before football games with free food and giveaways! Usually when I tell others that I attend Temple I get mixed reactions. Some know that Temple is known for great academics or for the bad reputation of the area. Although Temple is in North Philadelphia the school has gone above and beyond to provide security options throughout campus. Safety features such as: bike cops, emergency posts, flood lights, buses that take you home if you live off campus, and more! Temple is located in Philadelphia so it is not a “college town” but you have access to all different kinds of activities because you are in a city.

Briannon

I love Temple University. It has a diverse student body, a clean and safe campus, and there are many opportunities to succeed and get involved. It is also located very close to Center City, Philadelphia, so students have the opportunity to spend time in the city and view all of the art and attractions that Philadelphia has to offer. However, it is surrounded by a relatively dangerous neighborhood, so students must be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Temple is a great school. It is full of life. It is energetic in all what the word means. It is diverse. It is great considering academics and related opportunities. It is a welcoming environment. The school's workers as well as its administrators are friendly. I feel that every Temple student has something to be proud of. You'll enjoy fabulous SPORTS at Temple. You'll eat great food at Temple. You'll meet great people at Temple (from all over the globe). You'll have a lot of fun at Temple. You'll get your money worth with Temple's great education. You'll just be happy with being a Temple Student.

Diana

While I don't like Philadelphia as much as New York, I still love going to school at Temple. It feels like home and I never want to leave. I have my own schedule where I go to the Student Center a lot to use my meal plans. I am always at the TECH Center doing my homework on the computer labs and plus I work there. Also, I love taking Yoga, Zumba and Kickboxing at the IBC Rec Center! The size of Temple is just right. Everything is walking distance. I can get from one side of the campus to the other in ten minutes. Security is a concern students always have before coming to Temple, but after walking around on campus as late as midnight, you learn to feel really safe. There are so many lamps, emergency posts and police officers always riding on their bikes. People always think, "Oh, you're in the ghetto." It's true, but the ghetto surrounds Temple, so you don't feel like you are once you're on campus. Another convenient thing about Temple is that you can get just about anything nearby. Fresh Grocer is the closest supermarket; there's a Rite-Aid right next to campus and you can also take the subway or train to go shopping in Center City. There are also so many food options on campus such as the dining hall at JNH, the Student Center and plenty of food trucks and local businesses who have their own location on campus.

Christopher

Strong History Department – my major. Many interesting and diverse classes available and lot of flexibility in where you concentrate such a military history, international relations, American History, etc. Teachers in this program are superb. The size of the school is quite large and the location not really the best but on campus you really feel safe. The school’s administration tends to be very conservative. There’s little flexibility here. The policy is the policy and that’s that. Overall though, the good outweighs the bad.

Mary

I would definitely call Temple University too large; there are some programs with individualized attention, but for the most part you have to 'find your own help' and Temple doesn't make it easy. The biggest complaint I get from other students-- and this is pretty universal-- is that Financial Aid routinely takes serious money away from students after they've been enrolled and started classes and they're extremely difficult to deal with. Personally, my biggest battles have been with the administration in my college's advising office. There's a lot of school pride and the students are generally pretty great; since there are so many people on campus it's easy to find people with your set of interests. Residence Life also really goes out of their way to help you meet new people by having floor events and meetings. Temple is in a nasty part of Philadelphia and it's not safe to be around campus after dark alone. There's a lot of campus incidents and sometimes the reports that are emailed are pretty alarming. Most of the time, though, being careful about where/when you go out and with whom can prevent problems.

Daharis

Temple is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The school gives students endless opportunities to craft their personal and professional identity. Social life here is awesome; there is a lively energy on campus that you might not find elsewhere. As a research-based school, Temple encourages students to develop critical research studies that will benefit them in the long run. Spring Fling is definitely an event where all organizations set tables around the campus. Students are exposed to free food, live music, free prizes, and games during the energetic event. It's a way for students to get together and celebrate the Temple Culture. Temple has an eclectic selection of food. You will find Vietnamese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Italian, Indian, Vegan, Korean, Greek, and Romanian food; the list goes on! The cuisines are overwhelming at first, and the aroma of our campus is delicious!

Thomas

This school is terrific. It provides endless amounts of opportunities which help students became the successful people that they perspire to be. The individuals who attend this institution should feel gifted and privileged because there are many kids who wish they could attend this school but do to unfortunate circumstances, can not.

Jennifer

it's a good school. it has a large number of people and races. i think it's really cool the different ethnic groups are not just from the united states, for i have been able to meet people from Spain, Serbia, china, Poland, etc...The food is not as awful as every one says, even though alot of it is over priced. the Dorms are sweet if you are in 1940! even though it's cheap it is NOT a bad school. you get a good education, and it's very well known. especially, in the Philadelphia area. Honestly, going to temple makes me feel like i'm more apart of the city. .

Amber

Since the moment I entered my dorm room freshman year, I have never regretted attending Temple University. Temple is the best of both worlds: I get a city atmosphere, but I still get a college campus feel. There are a million clubs, sports, and organizations to join, which is perfect for someone like me, who constantly needs to be busy. I spend a lot of my time on the turf fields playing field hockey and at my sorority's house right off campus. Temple has many students, but I never feel like I am just another girl on campus. It is very easy to stand out, even when surrounded by so many people. The campus is also just big enough where you feel like you attend a large school, but not to the point where you are overwhelmed. In fact, you can basically get from one side of campus to the other in ten minutes. When I tell people I go to Temple, I almost always get positive reactions. Temple has a very good name in the Philadelphia area not only because they are known for providing a great education, but also because many well known people have attended the school. Temple has a lot of school pride, which also makes it exciting to go games, especially basketball, and more recently, see our football team play at Lincoln Financial Field. I think what makes Temple so unique is that it literally has everything one needs for a full college experience, and I did not get this feeling at many of the schools I visited before choosing TU.

Adria

My experience at Temple University has been decent, not great; though, not terrible. Freshman and Sophomore year sucked; though, so far, Junior year has been a bit better. Temple is a HUGE school, so you better be prepared for that. The best thing about Temple is the campus, and the fact that it is in a city [Philadelphia]. There is, usually, always something to do around here, even though, it may not be cheap. Because Temple is so large, professors are either a hit or a miss. I have had some REALLY good professors here; though, I have also had some mediocre ones. Athletics are fairly big on campus, mainly boy's basketball and football, you don't really hear of the rest.

Julie

Several great opportunities, great education, in a diverse, and opportunity filled city

Stephen

Temple is a great school. Not only am I getting a great education, but I am also just a subway ride away from many exciting things that Philadelphia has to offer.

Jillian

This is my second college. I transferred here from a school that was in the middle of nowhere and very well known for its excessive alcohol abuse, so moving into a city was a refreshing change! The opportunities that I have through Philadelphia, academic and social, are incredible. There is wonderful, art, theater, music, and nightlife in Philadelphia, as well as numerous academic opportunities. I have an internship in a nearby suburb that I got through networking in Philadelphia. I like the big school atmosphere of Temple. It fits really well with the "city life." I wouldn't call Temple a college town, but the area is up and coming. There is a ton of new construction with new retailers coming in. I like the amount of school pride at Temple. There is definitely a student presence, but it isn't in-your-face. Probably the biggest complain among students about Temple is that it is in North Philadelphia, and not closer to center city.

Savannah

I believe Temple is an excellent school. The people and professors are extremely diverse and Temple has many interesting courses to offer. I also love the school pride everyone shows for our sports teams. I especially love going to basketball games. It is in North Philly which does have a bad reputation, but I actually feel very safe on campus. There are plenty of police and security that patrol 24 hours a day and our campus is lit very well at night. Also Temple is close to Center City and you just have to cross the bridge to gt to Jersey and the beach, so it's in a great location.

Tara

I absolutely love the city of Philadelphia and Temple is in a great area, in my opinion. There are many places to eat and hang out with your friends right near campus. I love meeting new people and the size of the campus is just right. There is a tremendous amount of school pride for school sports. I love going to all the football and basketball games to cheer my head off with all my friends. You always find those crazy people that paint their whole bodies too. On the other hand, I find that temple doesn't know how to help their students. Forget about getting in touch with financial aid because they never call you back. Building maintenance depends on where you live, but the Edge is horrible with fixing their building problems. Also, advising doesn't know how to help you half the time.

Jennifer

It is hard to name only one thing that is great about Temple, so I am going to name more than one! Temple is an incredibly diverse school, it is almost impossible to not find a group of people represented at Temple. This is great for incoming students because not only do you know that you will make friends that are similar to you, but you have an opportunity to make friends with people you never imagined. Temple also is located in a major city of the United States. It may not be in the nicest neighborhood but Temple is only 2 miles from City Hall and a short subway ride to almost anywhere you need to be. Students get a better experience by living in the city then they would if they went to a college town school because you get to become familiar with so many new places. There are so many neighborhoods of the city to explore and by being at Temple you get to experience that as often as you wish. One last thing that is great about Temple is how affordable it in in comparison to other schools in the area or the country. Temple offers low in state tuition and relatively low out of state tuition to students. On top of that tons of students get financial aid or scholarships to attend the school. More than half of all students get some form of financial aid or scholarship. There are some things that need to change with Temple but by word of mouth students have made these problems fixable. Advising can be tricky when your school is so large. If you do decide to go to Temple always make an advising appointment, and always check with another adviser to make sure that your schedule looks right. People who go to Temple love the Cherry and White, meaning they love their school. There are a lot of transfer students at Temple and many of them will tell you that they like the experience at Temple better than their previous schools. When people hear that I go to Temple they react negatively to the neighborhood. But the neighborhood only is a problem for you if you are a problem for it. Meaning local North Philadelphians don't all mind Temple students, they mind the ones that are drunk and obscene, which is not all of Temple students. A majority of the problems that happen between students and locals are preventable. Being aware of your surroundings and keeping yourself safe will prevent any problems with the neighborhood

There are so many computer and books available for the research. There is Undergraduate Research Program for the students who are interested in research. School is very large. I tis great school. Most of the time is spend in the Tech center, student activity center, and research. There is lot of school pride. Many students were Temple hoodie, sweatpants, sweatshirt, etc.

The best thing about this school: I would have to say would be the business school for me. I am a business major and that was the main reason I came to Temple. It is an amazing building and has a crazy reputation among employers Name one thing you'd change: One thing I would change would just be the campus around Temple. There needs to be more restaurants and shops. There is a ton to do in center city, but not so much to do around Temple. How do people react when you tell them you go to this school: The first thing they say is how are you living in North Philadelphia?! Its nothing ever about the school its about the area which is a shame. North Philadelphia is not the nicest place in the world but I have never felt threatened on campus at all. Where do you spend most of your time on campus: I would say the business school. I have so much going on there, I am there all day everyday pretty much. College town or no: ehhh, not really. I mean it is a different atmosphere in a city with parties and school spirit and everything. You'd have to experience it to know, but I'd say no. What's your opinion of this school's administration: Teachers are fantastic! Among the best I have ever had fore sure. But the advising department should not even exist at Temple. They are completely worthless especially in Fox. Is there a lot of school pride: Good following for our basketball team but other sports... not so much. I would say major love for the Philadelphia sports teams is in Temple, but not the actual school sports teams. Is there anything unusual about this school? The diversity is unlike anything I have ever been apart of. There is so much culture and difference, it definitely plays a role to making your school experience that much better. What's one experience you'll always remember: I would have to say my first Spring Fling at Temple. It is a festival day when all students on campus party for the whole day. I had such a crazy time, I will never forget that What are the most frequent student complaints: Biggest complaints I would say is the Fraternities at Temple. They are among the worst in the country haha. So if your looking to go to a Frat, stay clear of Temple University.

Like many I was between a lot of schools; all of them different from the next. In the end I chose Temple because it was the cheapest and had the most majors. I'm glad that those two things allowed me to see the million of other great advantages to this city school. Best thing about Temple: I am from PA so the price cannot be beat. It's a huge factor for a lot of people and the top reason I ended up here. Now I have more money to use for graduate school... One thing I would change: Temple is for strong individuals that don't need and won't get special attention. If you're a biology major, your adviser also has about 100 other students they are helping. My suggesting is going with a small major like speech pathology or public health. FOX school of business is great but do not expect any personalized help from professors until you are in upper level classes. Temple is too big if you do not know how to deal with it. It is a slow transition for a lot of people freshman year but if you stick it out, it will be the best four years of your life.

Jesse

I went to High School in New York, so when I told people that I would be going to Temple, most people had never heard of it. But it is a relatively well-known university. Temple doesn't have a college town because it is in a large city, but there are so many fun and interesting things to do. You won't be sheltered.

Robin

Temple's administration is grossly out of touch with reality and how to deal with todays students. They are almost robotic like in their unfair treatment of students and their love of doling out sanctions for even the most ridiculous minor things and labelling everything "a learning experience." Just wait till they try to hit up alumni for donations and wonder why nobody will give them a dime. Would you give a donation to someone who treated you like crap? Not a chance!

Peter

Alot of students think that Temple is a backup school just in case if they dont make it to their first choice of College. I believe this "was" true but now Temple has gone through many changes both how it looks externally, "more than 500 million dollar upgrade" and internally, "education". More students are picking Temple as their first choice because they know that it is a great University. Examples are, Temple just opened the new building for Fox School of Business, considered the most advanced builidng for a business school in the world. The Tyler school of art is also one of the best in the world. The medical building is opening up soon.

Ainsley

The best thing about TU is its location in philly, your set in the 'real philly', not beautiful Centery City or the crusty nice neighborhoods like Northern Liberities, but in north philly an underprivileged area that is just beginning to be redeveloped. the school has great internship opportunities with the city government and a whole bunch of non-profits.

Vick

My only complaint was the lack of support to form and build both a totally student run radio station as well as a student run television station. This of course may come as a bias since I was a Broadcasting student, but Temple is highly recognized for their School of Communications and Theater. Also Temple nearly shot itself in the foot with some teachers in that school threating to fire them because of a lack of degree in the field. They did not have such a degree because when they were working and winning awards in the fields of Film, Theater, and Broadcasting, there were no programs offered to attain a degree. My best example would be legendary producer Phil Niccolo. The man has won countless grammy's for his work and sits on the voting board for them now. While there I heard that Temple was considering letting him go from the staff due to no degree in the field. The did wise up and gave him an honorary degree after students and teachers voiced their outrage. The Communications is so big that Temple needs to start having their eye on it. We are the future filmakers, broadcasting, and voices of American media. If every one of us are Temple alums then that will bring an even higher recognition to the school.

Alex

I like how there are so many different cultures that clash every second of every day. Size wise, it is just right. i spend most of my time at J & H probably. i dont know that many other details.

Jamie

I really like how there is always something going on at TU...whether it's Fall Fest/Spring Fling, Free Food and Fun Fridays, or a guest speaker. I think it's the perfect size... there are plenty of new people to meet, but it's still easy to keep in touch with/see friends from past semesters. I have taken a few people to campus for a mini-tour or to sit in on a class and each of them have really liked it. Despite the area being kinda bad, I like where TU is located. There isn't the huge sense of urgency like in Center City...but there is still that big-city feel. My favorite spot on campus is the bell tower... i love to sit out on the grass when it's nice out.

Janna

For being such a big school, Temple has a lot of cliques. You tend to see the same people every day.

Harrison

Temple is a great school. The location is very key as to what there is to do in the city, since most things are only a subway ride and/or short walk away. The administration is very good, and they handle problems well. There was an incident of anti-Semitism on campus recently, and the administration wasted no time in handling it and reassuring students that it wouldn't happen again. Personally, I spend a lot of time either on the track or running off-campus. But, when I'm around, I hang out on the main walk, or in my fraternity house. The thing that most people remember is Spring Fling, because it is always just one giant party that everyone on campus attends and hangs out together.

joe

Temple is amazing. i love the fact that it has thousands of students. Social life is amazing. The biggest downfall is admistration. They get nothing done at all and when they do make desicions they are retarded. They also need to eliminate this dry campus bullshit all it does is create more trouble then is needed. They need to do more to help greek life instead of trying to stop it.

Amanda

Great campus life-perfect size. Very diverse, many different cultures integrated in one school. Great education for an affordable price.

Meg

I absolutely loved my 4 years at Temple. In fact, I wish I went for 5! Overall, I had a wonderful experience, made best friends, and learned a lot (both in and out of the classroom). A fantastic thing about Temple is that it is located in Philadelphia. Going to school in a major city gave me so many opportunities that my friends at rural/suburban colleges didn't have. For example: the social scene (bars/restaurants), professional sporting events, and great internship opportunities. On campus, my friends and I hung out a lot on Liacouras walk in between classes. for school purposes, i spent a lot of time in Tuttlemen and the Tech center (After it was built during my senior year). I loved going to a very large school. I went to a fairly large high school (about 2500 kids) and I knew I wanted to go to a school much larger than that. Even though Temple has a ton of students, I honestly felt like it was a smaller community, and was constantly surprised to find out that some of my friends knew other friends of mine, etc. Some great memories I have from Temple are: attending basketball games, Spring Fling, house parties, bars that accept Diamond Dollars, working at Rec Services, and just making fantastic friends.

Janine

I love how big Temple is. One downside of that though is the advising situation sucks. But as long as you can figure out what you are doing (which you should do anyway) you'd be fine. I also love that Temple is in the middle of Philly. It is very easy to just stay on campus, but if you want to experience many different things, it's very easy.

Jody

Temple is a school of opportunity. quite literally, one can accomplish anything at or through temple, it just takes determination, hard work and knowing where to find help. teh students and faculty alone are a tremendous resource that many people look past.

Jordan

temple administration is terrible, you are just a number. It is the worst college town, the dorms are terrible, there is hardly any off campus housing, the neighborhood is terrible and there is like 1 bar.

Brett

Temple disappointed me in some ways. They need to work on their older dorm rooms some more, hire competent RAs who will make an effort for students to get to know each other, and train their advisors to better help those who wish to graduate on time. They need to erect more student living facilities and make the campus more green (with trees, plants, etc). Maybe it's because of where it's located, but being on Temple's campus can get depressing. I also wish I went to a school that had a lot of school pride and spirit.

Colin

the best thing about temple is the community of students. From what I have heard, it has become a lot larger this year. temple is not as bad as everybody says. it is a college town because if you want to do something, it is usually a short walk or subway ride away. But is pretty much in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the US. everybody cares about this school whether it be sports or anything else. they take care of this school. the biggest school complaint is everybody complains too much about this school and where it is.

Barry

It's a small campus, ugly, and there's not a lot to do (though that is changing rapidly). But the great part is, none of that matters because you're just a few subway stops away from the heart of Philadelphia. If college is a place to experience something new, then there's no better hands-on teacher than living in one of the country's biggest cities. It's no wonder most of my best memories take place off campus. I don't like to speak for anyone else, because there were plenty of people that did love Temple, for various reasons. It's an enormous school, so one is never lacking for new people to meet. The new administration seems keen on expanding, and in the last few years a number of great additions have been built - a movie theater, a 24-hour tech center, restaurants, etc. There's a lot of school pride, in a self-deprecating way. All the other local schools are private, so Temple students pride themselves on being the "ghetto" college in Philadelphia. We take pride in telling the rich kids from the other area schools that we're from Temple. Plus our basketball team is historically pretty good, so that's another source of pride. The most frequent complaint is boredom, but that's easily solved if you're willing to leave campus.

Jackie

Temple is above anything else a school of diversity. Beyond the urban campus aspect, Temple's wide variety of colleges and academic programs catch the eye of prospective students from all over the country. I have always felt that Temple was just the right size. Everyday I walk on campus and see familiar faces, along with a hundred new faces. It's so unfortunate that people's first reaction when I say that I go to Temple is in regards to the neighborhoods around it- thats not Temple, thats the sickening reality of the state of our nation. Never in my years here at Temple have I ever known of anyone being shot or in any serious trouble with a non-temple student. In fact, my boyfriend, a recent graduate from Penn State, could tell me about more students being shot or even killed in the small town of State College. Don't let racial discrimination or fear of the unknown keeping you from attending a school like Temple. Trust me, not only are there a ton of parties to go to nearly every night of the week, you also have the entire city of Philadelphia at your disposal.
