I personally thought that my overall experience was going to be worse since it’s a community college, but I actually enjoyed attending classes at TC. The teachers are really helpful and are very lenient with their students. When we moved to online classes in March it was very easy to attend classes and do the course work at home. I’m not extremely happy with the size of TC since it’s like less than 10 buildings overall, but it’s not that bad. I never tried the food they offered, but I wouldn’t want to either. I never went into the cafeteria that was at TC or the recreational center that they offered, but I know other students did take advantage of it. Overall, I think it’s a good school with good academics as well.

I really enjoy the school and the environment. The teachers are amazing and they do everything to make sure you have everything you need to succeed in your classes. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone. This school also have after school help and people assigned for that class.

My time at Texarkana College began the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I was sixteen, and when presented with the option between working and starting college early, I chose college. I graduated high school two years later and had enough credits in my name to start nursing school in the fall. Texarkana College’s prize degree option is Associate’s Degree nursing. There’s two hospitals and dozens of clinics within ten miles of the college campus, and clinical classes are diverse. Besides the four hour classes I would have for 3-5 days a week, there is nothing much to do on campus. There’s no housing on campus, no food court, extracurricular activities, or prominent social clubs. The college is mostly used by people going back to school, rather than continuing it. The classes are very affordable; something I miss now that I’m in graduate school. In a word, my experience with the nursing program was challenging. It was my first taste of actual studying. I was an A-B student in high school, but the format of nursing school gave me a C in my first semester. Instead of test questions about a word’s definition, the questions required you to memorize these definitions, compare them to each other, and choose which word/condition/illness/lab value best suited the question. For two years, I joked that I was married to my textbook. To pass each test, I had to read the chapters, re-read them with a highlighter, read them a third time with a different highlighter, make and study a Quizlet study guide, and find any pertinent practice questions online. There was distrust in our teachers because we were taught about their experiences in nursing and not about things that would help our grades. All in all, Texarkana College is a good school. It’s affordable. If one is looking for the “college experience”, Texarkana College may disappoint. If one is looking to get a degree, Texarakana College is perfect.

Texarkana College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Texarkana College?

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior the best piece of advice that I could give myself would be to focus on my grades. Some say that grades will not matter in the long run and do not prevent you from going to college but that is not true. College is very expensive and the cost of tuition has increased over the years. If you make good grades through high school then your GPA on your transcript will be good enough to earn you a scholarship that may be able to pay your entire way through college or at least a few semesters to start. Good grades will always pay off in the end and to not have them will be to not earn scholarship. If I could have went back in time and told myself that I believe that I would have made some changes on how I studied and did my homework throughout high school.

  4. What kind of person should not attend this school?

While I value some sort of education for everyone, I do believe that Texarkana College is not for everyone. A person must be motivated, self-disciplined and dedicated to succeed at any college but at Texarkana College a student must be keenly aware of his career path and degree plan. A person who is not focused, not active in planning their course layout and schedule, and doesn't have advanced knowledge of their transfer schools requirements will not succeed at TC. Without the advisement of my parents, I would have taken many unnecessary courses

  5. Describe the students at your school.

Going to TC is baiscally like going to high school because just about all the kids from my school and surronding schools all go to TC, even though it may seem like high school the teachers are really good, and it's a good place to get prepared before heading to a bigger school.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about Texarkana College is the lack of advisors or counseling involvement, knowledge and poor scheduling of those employees. The most important time for advisors to be on campus is at registration time. It is during that time when we find two out of three counselors having a day off. This produces extreme lines and limited time with the counselor. They are not current on the four year schools's degree programs and actually advised me to attend university that does not have my major, and had discontinued the Communication Disorder major five years prior.
