What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Find the college that will be best for you. Don't pay much attention to what others say about your college choice. Live your life and have fun.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The food served is the worst thing because there's no variety.

Describe the students at your school.

My classmates are responsible, studies and willing to learn. There are always people who attend school just because they have to, but there a more people who want to learn.

First of all you have to choose a school where is affordable to you, where you feel confortable with the people around. The most important thing is that the student attending the school should be going with interest and willing to learn. Also, the programs offered at the school should be interest and affordable to incoming students. Financial aid plays an important role in choosing the right university, so make sure you visit your financial aid advisor for the most help possible. Knowing the opinions of few current studies should be helpful in choosing the right school for you.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Well to the parents, I would say to take your child to the campus during the last month of school so that he/she may sit in on a class or two. They can all get a feel for the campus and the life on campus. It is a big help for many students, and a relief for many parents. Do e-mail, write, or call your student a few times a week, it helps with home sickness, especially durning finals. As far as students, I suggest that they get to know people in thier classes. You may not intent on missing a class, but it helps to have a friend who has the notes or to be the one to help out. It is best if you find out who the people are that will be studying the same Major/Minor as you. In the case of TAMIU the same people are in a lot of the same classes as you are once you are out of the basics period. Also, do not be afraid to go tutoring centers they are there to help you, and, in most cases, they do a great job at it.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about TAMIU is how open the professors are to ideas. I am an English major so there is not right or wrong, except in an acedemic paper and with grammar. The professors bring the campus to life with color, ideas, and words. They are the biggest asset to the campus. But, the scenary is gorgeous as well. We have live animals running around campus all the time.

What kind of person should attend this school?

The person who is attending our school must want to put a lot of emphasis on thier studies. There is not a whole lot to do in our city, most of the time. They have to like a very relaxed tempo on campus, but with a random spurt of excitement. The person attending may also want to be okay with a wide array of cultures. We are a mostly hispanic population in the city, but the University it culturally diverse.
