Overall, I am enjoying my time at Texas A&M. Everyone is friendly and my professors have been great. All of the professors are required to have office hours which makes it very easy to contact them and get help outside of class. I feel like this college is definitely preparing me for my future and career.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Texas A&M provides a safe learning environment for people of all backgrounds and abilities. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new people, from the classroom to clubs and other activities. Most people here are friendly and have good school spirit, from Aggie football games to other school-wide events. A cool thing is that you can find Aggies not only in College Station, but also when you visit other towns and even other countries in some cases. I think it is a good mix of a small-town feel but still has shops and restaurants nearby for students and visitors to enjoy. It is the right balance, without too many bars and distractions so students can focus more on their academics.

I do believe that our university is one of the best in the nation due to its rich traditions and school spirit. I admit that there is not a lot of diversity, and it is known as being very conservative. However, I have not encountered any discrimination based on my sexuality or ethnicity. There are plenty of ways for students to get involved on and off campus to make this campus with 60,000 students seem a lot smaller than it is. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing university, but it is by far the most unique and I wouldn't choose any other to receive my education from.

So. It's a super conservative, Christian/White campus. Like, you'll definitely find your people if you're none of the above (heaven knows I did) but like it takes time. There isn't a music department, it dissolved a couple years ago. There are some racist people here. On the bright side, if you're going in for engineering, you have it REALLY good. We have an entire department called "Professors of Practice", which is a department with professors who worked in an industry for at least 20 years and then became professors and they tell you how your class material applies to real life and they also tell you when you'll use certain principles AS THEY TEACH YOU. It's really legit. Also, each room in Zachry engineering complex has a touch screen built into every desk, and a TV attached to each group table (so about 42 TVs in each classroom, not including the 7 around the room people can use to present) and then you can present your laptop screen up on it. There's also 2 career fairs per year and the largest career fairs in the nation here. Also, the honor code here is strongly enforced and it's a REALLY safe campus, you can leave your laptop out in the open and no one would touch it even if you've left for like 1.2 hours (my personal experience).

This is the perfect school if you are looking for the big school, high energy environment. Professors have always been willing to make extra time for students and there are an incredible amount of student organizations to choose from and get involved with. There is a big focus on classes as well and one of the most important aspects of the school is the Aggie Network. Once someone becomes a student at this school, they are a part of this network for life and Aggies worldwide are willing to help other Aggies in any way that they can.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Texas A&M University is steeped in traditions that will astound any visitor with their sheer quantity. From saying "Howdy" to passerby to the Aggie War Hymn and swinging 12 Man Towels at football games, you transcend student-dom and become something more, a piece of an interconnected maroon and white puzzle. It's an enormous campus with a huge population, but don't let that scare you away. Despite its size, Texas A&M cares about every student that walks through its doors. Don't believe me? Check out Bonfire Memorial. It's a beautiful five billion dollar structure dedicated to mourning the lives of 12 students who were killed when the university's 55-foot tall bonfire collapsed in 1999. Instead of attempting to ignore or cover up the deaths, Texas A&M chose to honor them. The memorial consists of 12 stone doorways, one for each student, arranged in a circle with each one facing the direction of that student's hometown. Inscribed within each is a portrait of the student along with written works meant to convey who they were to visitors. On top of that, every year on the exact anniversary of the bonfire collapse (November 18, 1999 at 2:24 a.m.) Aggies gather at the memorial to sing the war hymn and honor the dead. Texas A&M has a lot of other traditions meant to honor lost Aggies. The first Tuesday of every month there's Silver Taps, when students gather around the Academic Plaza for a 21-gun salute and a somber performance of Taps to reflect on the lives of current students who passed away during the previous month. There's also Muster, where Aggies gather together all around the world to commemorate fellow Aggies who have died during the year on April 21. Texas A&M University is enormous, yes. That frightened me when I first came here because I thought I would be lost in the swarming population. However, there are plenty of ways to make those high numbers seem small. I joined the Corps of Cadets. Some people partake in Greek Life. Others join Men's or Women's Organizations. There are over 1,000 different extracurricular activities here and no matter what kind of person you are, one of them will satisfy you. So should you come to Texas A&M University? Do you want to join a community instead of just a college? Do you want to join a network that will open doors for the rest of your life? Do you want to take classes with professors who know their stuff and push you to succeed? If the answer to these questions is yes, I think you already bleed maroon.

It is a very large school but there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved and feel closer to a tighter group of people. The school is big but once you become involved, it doesn't seem that big anymore. Registration for class is a pain as a younger fish. There is rarely any good classes left but by the time your junior year rolls around, you'll be in the clear for a schedule much more desireable

What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is a very good school academically and socially, I would say bets in Texas for that matter. The school and everyone in it is known to be very loving and inviting, supporting each other and making it one big family. Sports events are very important and like stated before we all support each other so going to the games shows our school spirit, which we have tons of, and support for our fellow Aggies. The professors care for your success as much as you do and will help you with as much as they can. A&M is a very good school and has top programs, Tier 1 Research facilities, and other amazing things, it all adds up to making it a great choice for anyone
